Title: Painting the Walking Dead
Post by: sean_68333 on November 22, 2016, 02:56:43 PM
I hopped on the band wagon and purchased a copy of The Walking Dead:  All Out War after watching a demo at my local game store.

I have to say that the models look very nice and what I saw in the demo and have read of the rules look decent.

I have started painting the walkers and found they paint quickly and are full of character.

I'm just doing a quick and dirty paint job on these models and think that fits with the theme.  I'll post updates as I complete more models.

I've made a little more progress and have put together a couple of videos showing how I am painting these miniatures.

Those are such characterful models; Looking good!  I heard there are no duplicates in the set.  I need to get me one of those.

I agree, the models are nice.  I like that there are no duplicates.  My understanding is that the expansions also have no duplicates.

There are six duplicates in the kickstarter edition, as the 'walker booster' I believe. Still not bad going though, there's a wealth of sculpts.

Your figures look great.
I purchased the game to give to my son for Christmas.
Can't wait to play it.

Thank you!

I haven't played it yet, but did watch part of a demo at my local store.  It looks interesting.  Now that I've got some models painted, I can give it a try.

I hope to have some survivors ready to share soon.

Another walker is complete.  This is the last one from the base box.  I will take some photos of the group to share.

This model is my least favorite of the group that I've done.  I'm not sure what I don't like, I just don't care for it.

I've got a couple survivors on the painting table next.

Nice.  Great results on a very quick paint scheme.  Watching the video I was skeptical on the yellow hair and bright blue pants but the agrax made it work :) ; That stuff is magic.  You will have an awesome looking horde in no time.  Are you going to paint your survivors using the same methods or do you plan to do more detailing as the survivors are more stand alone models?  I can't wait to get my hands on this set.

Thanks!  I was a bit worried to, but you are correct, those washes are all magical.  I don't plan to do any highlighting on the survivors either, but will do different colors of washes instead of doing the whole model with Agrax.  They will also be based differently than the zombies to make them stand out on the table.

I've completed my first survivor.

I've used the same basic idea to paint this model.  I applied base colors and then applied washes.  Instead of a single wash, I've used different colors that are appropriate for the underlying base color.  A nice effect, that is simple to accomplish.

My next survivor is finished and ready to take on some walkers.

Patrick was on the paint table this time and was fun to paint.  I think his skin turned out well and I even gave him a tattoo, though it is a bit hard to see.

I've finished painting all the walkers and have now managed to get the basing done on all of them.

I used a pretty simple process, but it gives a decent look.  It was pointed out to me that is kind of looks like they are all walking in a single file line down the middle of the road.  Oh well, nobody's perfect.

I get more and more interested in this game.

Quick and dirty pjs, maybe, but they fit the subject nicely!  :)

I continue to work on painting The Walking Dead: All Out War.  I'm actually getting pretty close to being finished painting the miniatures from the base game, but still have some work to do and then some terrain items will follow.

Next up is Rick.  I'm happy with how he turned out and is now ready to lead the survivors on some supply runs.

I agree.  These models and the theme lend themselves to a quick paint job.

I really like the models (at least most of them) and like what I've read of the rules so far.  I hope to get some games played in the near future now that I have some models painted.

Sure does.  The ax for close in work and the pistol for longer range work.  Not a bad combo.

Rick does look great, as do the other two survivors!

You're really getting a fantastic looking set here Sean.

Carl was waiting patiently for his turn to be painted.  Now he is waiting patiently for his turn to be played.

I continue with my simple techniques and the results are perfectly suitable for a tabletop standard.

More of the basic painting and still good results.

With the completion of Derek, I am now done painting all the models from the core box of The Walking Dead: All Out War.  I've got several expansions, so I will probably be paint them as well in the near future.
