A couple of weeks ago I visited the brilliant Nihon Minkaen open air folk architecture museum in Kawasaki. The museum itself consists of around 25 buildings that have been transported from various locations around Japan, all of them are from the 1600s to 1800s but being rural houses they probably have an architectural style significantly older than their actual dates so would be fitting for quite a bit earlier or later. Each of the buildings had a very handy illustrated floor plan outside its door, including measurements, geographical location and a bit of history, a perfect resource for us gamers.
Anyway, here's a few of the more interesting ones.

Hi juxt
Thanks for posting these it's really good reference material. There is a lot of good stuff on their web site.
One question I have is did they have paper windows and if so how do they protect them when it rains. I have seen pictures that appear to show some sort sliding shutter affair that looks like it hangs on a rail. Do you have any reference to this.
Did you post the rest of your pictures in the museum anywhere viewable?
Thanks again

Thanks - the storehouse looks particularly interesting.
