Title: Various Sci-Fi Interior Update Sunday March 29 Page 2
Post by: Arcturus on February 15, 2009, 12:16:43 PM
... for a Doom-Stalker-Fallout-Alien inspired Dungeon-Crawler.

I wanted to create a dirty and shabby look. Like the equipment is in use for a long time on a space station/secret underground lab deep in the "zone" or the interior of the millenium falcon from Star Wars.

Big scratchbuild consoles:

Those are excellent. I think the info towers are my favorite, instantly put to mind many films. How did you get that 'cracked effect' on your scratch builds? 8)

The heat blistered/crackled texture on the first console looks great.  Nice colours for the consoles too, very Star Wars, makes a change from the gunmetal colour I often think of for these type of things.

On the last pair of towers, I love these, how were they made?

I see parts of an AT or ATX power supply, are the panels from Antenociti?  And what is the structure made from, and is that a bottle cap on the top?

Thanks for your comments. :)

I created the "cracked"-effect accidently but was very pleased with it.

The scratchbuilds are made from hard-plastic boxes of "Tic-tac" peppermint dragees. I painted the boxes with a thin layer of white "Revell" enamel paint. When the first layer was dry i applied a second even more thinned layer. The thinner must have caused the first layer to wrinkle so that it looks like heat/age cracked paint.

The structure of the info-tower is from the Urban War Platformer Set.

I used parts of a broken Pc power supply and screens from Antenociti's and yes on top that is a bottle cap from a milk carton. :)

Very, very good. I think the cracks could also be made with white glue - or maybe even a glue gun.

I absolutely have to copy the idea with the printed monitor screens - it looks fabulous!!

Great looking terrain pieces. You will be thrilled to use them I am sure. By the way, where did you get the Alien figure?

The Alien is a rebased Horrorclix Figure from the Wizkids Alien Collectors Set.

Bought a box set of these (AvP) for £5!  Always wanted some aliens and now I got them.  Will play them in CoZo next week.

Great bargain - 7 figures plus scenery.  Just need to remove them from the bases they come with and we're in business!

You can press almost any plastic gizmo into service, I guess. Just takes a little tinkering and som paint  :)

Here are some more pics of my growing range of Sci-Fi Interior

First some more Info-Towers:

Fans or Where's my assistant?

And now my personal favorites: The experimental Teleportation-Platform
(it's heavily inspired by the Doom III Teleporter, so some screens first to show the "original"

And now my interpretation on the theme:

Somethinfg other than the recon team returned from the trip:

I kept the teleportation pads moveable, so the whole structure can serve as some sort of counter (when the players have to wait until all pads have moved in the right position)

My first thought was to use the teleporter as some sort of scenario goal, but it was so easy and fun to build that i made two of them. so it can be used for in-game teleportation.

And last but not least a WIP shot of my next project: Old school Fallout 1 & 2 Overseers Chair:

Very nice work. I love how you managed to make the teleporter out of the platform builder stuff and (if I'm correct) AT-43 scenery.

Keep them pictures coming :)

Some really great pieces of scenery here. I especially like the info towers. Mind if I ask where that demon-type miniature on the teleporter came from?

Very nice, I am getting all sorts of ideas from these! Thanks for the inspiration! That last pic, where's that discus surrounding the overseer desk from, looks a bit like Star Wars trade federation star ship or something?

The daemon is a Hell Knight from DooM: the board game from Fantasy Flight Games I believe. Likewise for the obese zombie fellow.

I do rather like the teleportation pad and Overseer's chair. Sexy ;). About how well do the doomy-doom Zeds compare to 28mm scale stuff? Or for that matter, the Doom Guy? I've been wanting to get my hands of all those daemons, myself.

The disk does look like the Trade ship from starwars and the Chair is from Mega Mini. Well done on all of your stuff.

Hi all,
thanks for all the nice comments.

The Demon and the Zombie are plastic figures from the Doom Boardgame. The Zombie is true 28mm scale. The demon measures about 5cm.

The Overseers Chair consists of a Resin Chair from Scotia Grendel's "Sci-Fi Consoles", the surrounding disc is in fact a "Star Wars Trade Federation Battleship" and the black part is the head of an axe deo spray, which perfectly fits the round base of the Resin Chair.

The teleportation pad is made of parts from the urban war hexagon platform builder set, three Nano Generators from AT-43, a console from Antenocities Workshop and a supporting structure made of old plastic sprues.

Very nice stuff which makes my interest in the background material all the more odd.... I'm looking for something to use as flooring for a shopping mall - can I ask where you got that tiled surface from?

It looks like it's printed and not actually textured.

Very nice work on the equipment. I'm not too fond of the washed/dipped look but the construction itself is really nice! 8)

The floor tiles are from the "Star Wars Galaxy Tiles"-Set. It's made of sturdy cardboard but definitely not the cheapest solution because you only get one of those big rooms per set.

I think on some Space Hulk Fanpages there are free downloads of floor tiles or some set of Worldworksgames can do the job better, if you have to cover real large areas.

Thanks for that, actually after that exact look - polished shopping mall floor like - and have been looking around for something comparable. Have looked at Worldworks but haven't found anything like it yet.

Sorry about the threadjack.
