FLIGHT!
As with other build contests this years will be based on a theme and the theme will be Flight. There will also be a time limit and the voting will be done on a possible voting/poll basis with knockout rounds similar to the LPL but as a simpler version.
General Rules -
One entry per member (no joint contributions).
A child board will be set up in the Workbench section and all build threads must be started in this child board. There will also be a dedicated Gallery set up just for the contest for hosting purposes so please post your photos there and then of course post them in your build thread, any questions regarding this just let myself or Prof Witcheimer know.
The official start date is 09:00 GMT Sun 8th Jan and all applicants must notify me on this thread by 20:00 GMT Sat 7th Jan. They will then be listed in this post below. The list of entrants will be in alphabetical order (no favouritism). Please let me know if your username is wrong.
If the theme doesn't interest you and you're already noted below then that's not a problem, just let me know on this thread and I shall remove your name.
If we don't reach X Entries, I will make up the numbers to keep it even for the voting so who ever gets in the same poll as myself gets a free win (all pairings/groupings will be random).
I will not be entering as a 'legal' participant, just to either make up the numbers or for fun :-)
Finished entries must be submitted no later than midnight Sat 18th Feb and the voting will start shortly after. That's six weeks to build something!
The build threads of the entrants should include as many progress shots as possible, including sketches but no photos of the finished entry should be posted on the thread. Painting in progress is not allowed, only primed entries are permissible on the build threads if you are unsure then please ask.
Final entries must consist of either one photo or a photo montage of the finished piece. No photo manipulation will be allowed apart from the usual cropping, white balance, contrast as long as they are within reason. Again, if you are unsure then please ask.
Photo size should be 800x800 pixles and sent as a jpeg to buildsomething@lead-adventure.de
Although winners will be voted by the population of the LAF, if there is any sense of foul play the judges decision is final although we would hope that it won't be necessary given the friendly nature of the LAF :-)
Theme Rules -
The entry must include something that ties in with the theme. Anything goes whether it be a plane, dragon, spaceship, a Da Vinchi-esque flyer etc. Links to 'flight' are permissible also; for example, a landing platform for a space shuttle, an air traffic control tower, a set of Icarus wings on a workbench etc. If you have any questions either ask them here, to the above Buildsomething email or via pm but Please label your email and pm Build Something 2017 otherwise it might not get answered.
Minimum base size is 50mm x 50mm or 50mm diameter etc, there is no upper limit. If in doubt, ask.
There is no minimum or maximum limit of figures on the entry but please remember that this is a Build something contest and not a figure painting contest...
Any period or setting is allowed as long as it fits with the theme including sci-fi or fantasy etc.
The entry can either be solely a diorama/vignette piece or it can be for gaming with, the choice is yours.
The idea is to build something so the vast majority of the piece should be scratch built, only 0-25% can be commercially bought items or figures. The rest must be hand made. This percentage also applies for 3D printed elements (whether home printed or bought). So the total of bought and 3d printed items together on the build cannot exceed 25% If in doubt, please ask.
Conversion of commercially bought items is allowed also. Eg, a head swap on a single figure would not be suitable but re-positioning and sculpting several new body parts would be. Another example would be a plastic airplane kit; adding a couple of extra parts to the kits would not be allowed but having some of the extra parts from a sprue on an entirely new build would be fine. Again, if in doubt, please ask.
It's probably not possible to cover all the eventualities so please use your common sense and use fair play where you can.
Good luck and happy building :)
Addendum - If you don't have a thread started in this board by the end of the 8th then your name will be taken from the list and you won't be able to enter.

Just a quick message to mention that the Build Something Contest will be held again early next year (2017) :)
Rules and theme to be posted closer to the time.
If you are potentially interested mention it below and I'll add your names to a list. When the theme and rules get posted and you no longer want to take part then just let me know and I'll take you off :)
cheers
James
Count me in. Can i provide prizes this year again? From Hammers house of tat?
-
interested but won't have time due to Salute commitments :(
-

That'd be grand :)
-
interested but won't have time due to Salute commitments :(
I'll put your name down anyway and then can take it off later if you want :)
-
Count me in.
-
Yep. I'm in.
-
IN!
My main Cyberpunk table will be finished by then, so time for a new challenge 8)
-
count me in please
-
If the subject matter can be made to fit into one of my projects then I am in too.
I can donate prizes too, if it helps.
-
Sure, let's have a look!
-
Go on then ..... :D
-
Thanks for the support so far gents, although some of you may change your minds when you see what the theme is lol
cheers

Are there any particular rules or subject matter?
-
count me in!
-
Why not.
I could do with a busman's holiday. So count me in.
-
Are there any particular rules or subject matter?
I refer you to my first post :)
Basically, everything will be revealed just before the New Year or just after (depending whether I have to work or not).
cheers
James
-
Oh go on then, I'm in.
Hope it's something related to what I'm working on - at least a dozen projects, so... :D
-
Hell, what is one more project? I'm in.
:D

James
Just hoped you might spill the beans!
-
So far I have one completed entry and one (still) uncompleted entry, so a 50% record. Not sure about having the time but I'd certainly be interested if it's something I think I can do. I need some sci-fi terrain and some modern stuff. I'm going for a wild guess that this year's theme is 'large rodents of Peru'. No inside info, just a feeling!
-
I'm going for a wild guess that this year's theme is 'large rodents of Peru'. No inside info, just a feeling!
Bloody hope not.
-
Add me to the list. If it's totally whacky and zany or just plain uninteresting I will pull out.
-
Stick me on the list as well big chap! I always like making something outside my comfort zone!
-
In.
BS is one of the reasons that makes LAF the lovely place it is. ;)
-
Would be interested as well :)
-
Well, why not.
-
I'll have a try, see if it will kickstart the creative process.
-
I'd be interested :)
-
Something is something I am sure I could build. Whether or not it will look like the something that will be the subject of the Build Something contest is another matter, but yes I would like to build something for the Build Something contest. Some things I build look nothing like the thing I was trying to build, so this should work well.
Thank you
-
Proving popular gents, jolly good show :)
Of course, there's no problem in wanting pull out when the theme is released :)
cheers
James
-
OK, what the 'ell, count me in.
-
I am interested. I suspect you could name just about any theme and I would already have a half baked plan to do something for it anyway :)
-
I'm in, I've got enough going on by way of scenery projects right now (and planned) that I can probably fit any theme!
-
Ill give it a go!
-
A bit late to the show but count me it
-
...and one more joins the party.
-
I am tentatively in depending on the theme.
-
Go on, sign me up.
Any idea on time frame for completing (I've just started Christmas break, six weeks of bliss)
-
I still can't quite shake the feeling that there's a capybara somehow involved.
Do you have some ideas on themes yet or are you open to suggestions?
-
Cool! Please count me in.
-
Are there any particular rules or subject matter?
I know, but I ain't telling *snicker*
-
Count me in also; curious about the subject.
DJ
-
I'm intrigued.
Count me in.
Tony
-
I'll give it a go.
-
A provisional YES from me too - but expect an early fail as I realise I haven't the time to see it through. :(
-
Yes, that's what I need to get started again.
Count me in.
-
Go on add me to the party. 8)
-
Thanks again for the interest chaps, most inspiring :)

With this many prospects the administration of it all could become a chore. I can act second if you like. I've done this one before, as you know.
-
Add my name to the list, please.
-
I am interested

And I will gladly take you up on it :)
-
I always used to fail winning the LPLs, therefore I see my chance in doing something different - count me in, please! :D
-
James when are you likely to post the theme. As its rapidly approaching that time of year where I'm on pain of death if I try to work let alone ignore her family and read posts on a forum.
Mark.
-
Probably just before the New Year to allow for a little thinking time before it kicks off.
It's all dependant on my work as it's looking likely I'll be working for some of the holidays.
cheers
James
-
No worries'
I'll risk checking nearer new year.
Mark.
-
Jim is there a finished by date in mind?
And how long will we have to build?
-
In as well! :)
-

Santas little helper.
-
If there is still space count me in please.
-
For once I anticipate having the resources (time/money/attention span) so I'd like to join in.
-
41entries, it's. Going to be a big one!
-
41 entries, it's going to be a big one!
I'm as pins-and-needles as the next, but it all hinges on the topic/guidelines - how many of the 41 will remain after Jim announces that the theme will be "strawberries: friend or foe?" ?
Me? I'm just hoping my internet connection doesn't crapout before then... ; )
-
Santas little helper.
I never want to meet his BIG helper then!
:o :o

The theme may well whittle down the numbers (me included!) plus real life will, as it does, get in the way.
I'm well aware it's the same few people who end up putting the work in to running these things so if you do ever need help with anything the offer is there. I'm sure some of the other guys would help too.

Just buy him beer.
That always helps.

can you 3d print an entry?
Jim's call, but I think that would be cool. There is a certain amount of creativity needed for that to.
-
can you 3d print an entry?
That's an interesting question and after some though I think, to keep it fair, it would have to be around 10-20% of the finished build that could be rp'd (which is around the amount of commercially bought items that will be allowed in a build).
If more and more people on the forum are producing their own rp prints then we could possible look at doing a small comp for those but for the time being I think it would be best to keep it 'traditional'.
cheers
James
-
Why don't you go and find a 3D modelling contest instead ? :)
-
Ya, throw me in there, I've some terrain I've been meaning to knock up, might as well have some fun with it, too.
-
I'll probably end up using old fag packets for the most part.
-
Count me in ;)
Thanks
-
Oh boy! Count me in! :)
Last time it was a crazy rush to finish my entry o_o, but maybe this time I could manage my free time better (probably not lol ).
-
Can you add me to the list of potential participants please James. Its ages since I did any scratch-building.
-
Put me down as a potential entry as well, this sounds intriguing. I make no promises about not immediately selling whatever I come up with on ebay, though. :)
-
New names added :)
It would have to be around 10-20% of the finished build that could be rp'd (which is around the amount of commercially bought items that will be allowed in a build).
This still stands.
cheers
James
-
... it's worth remembering the winning piece from 2010:
I hadn't seen that entry. Wow!!
-
I wouldn't have time for doing something like this, but I sure as heck want to watch from the sideline! ;D
-
I print stuff as part of my scratch builds on my £150 kit printer.... but the quality is pants so it needs filling and sanding plus I have to draw and print the damnable thing in the first place. Most of the time it's be easier to build the thing the old fashioned way in the first place... I'd not worry about it. There is as much skill in drawing the things as any other modelling IMHO.
Plus as has been seen you don't need flashy tools to make nice stuff :)
Wheels, tyres, suspension, roof and bonnet 3d printed and filled/sanded/trimmed/etc...
Would my laser cutter count against me for example? It's only a tool but I use it a lot...

Count me in for this year.
That beeing said, darn guys, I'm pretty surprised at the almost hostile attitude towards 3d printing. I think I own of the highest end desktop printers on LAF (we probably have at least one pro-level print shop owner among the 7000 members) and I don't think I'm capable of matching the winning entries of past years. I'm genuinely curious why some members appear to be strongly opposed to the idea of incorporating 3d printed components when laser cutting and the like have become an integral tool for many of our regular members.

I can only speak for myself of course, while hoping not to offend anyone. But I find it hard to compare physically scratch-building or modelling something from random materials on one side and programming and letting a machine do the actual making on the other.
There just doesn't seem to be any manual craft involved. I don't want to put down all the creativity and the programming skill involved in making a 3D print. But a 3D design is -in my lay opinion at least- just a VERY intricate design sketch. At that point a scratch builder still needs to draw on his craft-, material- and engineering skills to actually make something based on the sketch and a 3D designer just turns on his machine...
I might grossly oversimplify things here and I think 3D designers must have great programming skill and creativitry to make all those wonderful things, but I don't think it has anything to do with scratch building.
-
Gents, lets put an end to the 'print' discussion as the decision has been made and this isn't the place for a round the houses conversation about it.
Rich, in answer to your question, yes limited laser use is permissible.
At the end of the day the Build Something Contest is meant to be done and taken part in with the spirit of the LAF in mind and I hope all those who do take part will bear this in mind :)
cheers
James

Hear hear!
Now lets build something and carry on.
-
count me in please
-
Please add me to the list as well - if the theme is not way out of the scope of my interest I'll give it a shot.
-
Sounds good, count me in
-
Word is going around that the theme will be 'How would you finish a Wizard's Tower?'
But that could be wrong..... ;D
-
Well... I think I have no other choice than to join all those gentlemen.
Thank you, James!
Marco ;)
-
Word is going around that the theme will be 'How would you finish a Wizard's Tower?'
But that could be wrong..... ;D
I heard the terrain piece had to have a Bibbly Flap...
-
As I mentioned in my pm to you, I asked for that particular conversation to be stopped and I shall remove any comment that pertains to it.
You will not be banned and your comments above are over the top.
I mentioned myself that the Build Something Contest is made in the spirit of the LAF and no further comment on this particular thread for that is needed :)
cheers
James
-
So.....
....shall we all just get back to thinking about 'Building Something' now.....?
I am really looking forward to this as I really love watching everyone's entries come to fruition and have not participated before.
I know that everyone will do something completely different and I just want to steal all of your good ideas for my own future builds.
I am simply looking forward to seeing what the theme is and trying to find a way to fit it in with my current plans.
:)
P.S. Please dont let it be anything to do with a 'Wizards Tower', as I cant fit that in even if I was being a cheeky arse in suggesting it.
;D
-
Can we propose a theme? If so, I propose a Huge Cannon! No period specified!
-
The theme has already been chosen and will be released just before New Year and there's no problem for people wanting to drop out if they are not comfortable with it :)
P.S. Please dont let it be anything to do with a 'Wizards Tower', as I cant fit that in even if I was being a cheeky arse in suggesting it.
;D
Any more Wizards tower comments will get you an instant ban >:D lol
cheers
James
-

James,
"Wizard" and "tower" could be in different posts? ;)
Marco
-
James,
"Wizard" and "tower" could be in different posts? ;)
Marco
No >:D
-
I'm sure that the comp theme will be a wizard of an idea.
-
What about a witch's skyscraper?
-
What about a witch's skyscraper?
I was thinking a warlocks basement.
-
sorcerer's semi-detached?
-
Pinnacle of Prestidigitation?
(Apologies ;) )
-
Well it might still be a Huge Cannon.... :D
-
Keep guessing ;D
-
Spaceship?
Please be a spaceship, I like making those.
-
My guess is that it will be a non-period theme that allows for a broad interpretation.
-
Soviet Early War tanks... or Prototype tanks... I'm good at them lol
-
Any more Wizards tower comments will get you an instant ban >:D lol
OK, then. I wont mention it again.....but it looks like I wont have to.
;D ;D
-
Hey Jim, even without any 3d stuff (and I shall not speak another word on that topic) I would still love to participate in this contest. Could you add my name to the list? ???
-
Anything pulp related?
And saying "anything" and "pulp" together means really ANYTHING!! ;)
Marco
-
Waiting for the theme Then I might jump on board
-
Depending on the theme I am in.
-
Hi James
If you have decided on the subject is there any chance of releasing the details now rather than new year? I suspect many of us have time over the seasonal period but come Jan we are a bit scuppered (I will be)
At the end of the day the closing date will still be the same we just get more time...
cheers
ps Good luck everybody
-
Not happening I'm afraid Giles, I don't have the time over Christmas to be able to look after it properly.
Details will be released around the New Year.
cheers
James
-
It'll be good to leave it till the New Year anyway, I think, as it'll be something nice to do when we're all miserable and have to go back to work.
-
If you have decided on the subject is there any chance of releasing the details now rather than new year? I suspect many of us have time over the seasonal period but come Jan we are a bit scuppered (I will be)
But you will still finish your entry in a couple of weeks anyway, given your production speed.
:D
-
I understand James
But you will still finish your entry in a couple of weeks anyway, given your production speed.
:D
exactly - I am completely screwed on the work front at the moment ;)
-
Ok I'm in for now I think I've learned from my mistakes in the earlier contests
-
I've started collecting bits*. I have no idea what we'll be doing, but at least I feel I'm somehow already doing something useful, even if it turns out I won't be using any of the bits I'm busy reserving :D
*actually that should be 'bit' as I am too busy at the time, and only managed to pick up a discarded car part (!).
-
It´s not a moon....
-
I'm interested. Count me in at least until the theme reveal.
-
I'll give it a go ... where do I sign?
-
New names added to the list :)
cheers
James
-
That's a BIG list! 8)
I wonder how many of us will still be on it after the theme is revealed!
-
Not as many I hope lol
cheers
James
-
Not as many I hope lol
Be careful what you wish for.....both ways.
;)
-
Around 60! Just the sheer amount of ideas that will be generated when the theme is revealed (to decided to stay in or out) will be enough to power a small country.
-
I'm interested. Count me in at least until the theme reveal.
Same here. Please add me.
Thank you
-
Hope work is treating you well James. Really.
Not checking the forum to see if I missed an update in this thread. No siree.
-
Not getting anyones hopes up either there von Lucky ;)
-
Full of a manky head cold at the moment :-X
Anyway, it's not 'around the New Year' yet ;D
cheers
James
-
Well hope you shake it off - it's never fun having to work and still have ring-ting-tingling going around your head.
-
Get well James, and resist using the laser cutter to clear out the stuff in your head.
-
Yes please!!
-
Well go on, chuck me name in.
-
Please add my name as well
-
I'm going to throw my hat in the ring, too :) put me down, James!
-
All the new names have been added.
I'm off out tomorrow and going to see Rogue One again on the first so I think the proper announcement will take place on the second...
Just to keep you hanging a bit longer >:D ;D ;)
cheers
James
-
You could make the contest to build the landing pad on Scarif. :o
-
I'm off out tomorrow and going to see Rogue One again on the first so I think the proper announcement will take place on the second...
I knew it would be a Death Star... :D
-
You could make the contest to build the landing pad on Scarif. :o
Is that the thing that looked a bit like a sci-fi wizar.......
-
Oh good ,there's a very strong chance I'll be hung over.Regimental doo,and a trade dinner this weekend. Come to think off it I might not have a liver. So any chance of a hint?
-
We get to build... something. :D
-
Still digging up potential useful bits which could be used for anything - though I bet I'll use none of them in the end... :D
-
Oh good ,there's a very strong chance I'll be hung over.
Not my problem ;D
-
Now,Now Mr Bibbly.
They'll never make you Saint James of the Blue Bricks. Taking that tone.🤣
-
Now,Now Mr Bibbly.
They'll never make you Saint James of the Blue Bricks. Taking that tone.🤣
Like that's the only reason he'll never be a saint. It did make me laugh though.
-
Is that the thing that looked a bit like a sci-fi wizar.......
That got a good chuckle out of me. lol
Actually between that and Vader's castle I had a second where I felt like I was watching LotR instead of starwars.
-
That got a good chuckle out of me. lol
You'll notice that I'm studiously ignoring it lol
cheers
James
-
What a dramatic tension ... What could it be ... o_o 8)
-
You'll notice that I'm studiously ignoring it lol
Studiously, eh?
;D ;D
What a dramatic tension ... What could it be ... o_o 8)
Who knows?
But whatever it is I am sure it will be a towering success.
:D

I've never entered one of these contests. It'll be fun (he said)...I mean, how much of my spare time could it possibly take (he said, naively)... lol lol

Get on with it Jim. :?
-
Ah I've figured it out!
As alot of us won't see forty again. James is procrastinating in the hope of a cold spell.
To thin out the UK entries !!!
Oh James that sainthood is in real jeopardy 🤔
-
Shouldn't we just stick to the tradtional theme: Build a wizard's tower half the height of the Burj Khalifa?
-
Get on with it Jim. :?
When I get home from work :-I
-
Well, take it easy on that first work day of 2017. Don't be late! :D
-
Please add me to the interested list
:D

When I get home from work :-I
Take a half day :)
-
Poor James - put your feet up first and take a good breather and something strong once you get home mate, then post the theme. I'm j. curious to see what's coming, but I'm on leave today, so I just can't rush you!
-
Theme announcement is up!
Back out now if you wish :D
cheers
James
-
Bring it on! ;D
-
I'm in :D

Flight suits me just fine - I should be able to start something and I'll even try to finish it.

I'm still in :D

Do we announce our project on this thread?
-
Wonderful! Thank you Jim.
Looking forward to this one.
-
I'll stay in please
Now to get the thinking cap on
I take it has to be a new build not something already started?
-
Well I wanted to build a starship (or two) for Rouge Star games anyway. :)
-
Oh darn, where will I find any inspiration for starships from? ::) ;D
-
I'm in!
Do we announce our project on this thread?
Start your own thread on this child board but no starting or pictures until the 8th :)
I take it has to be a new build not something already started?
Completely new build Colin :)
We do have six months to finish it, right? ;D
Only if you don't want to enter ;D
cheers
James
-
Oh darn, where will I find any inspiration for starships from? ::) ;D
There's a movie serialisation thing that I believe is quite popular. In fact there's apparently one out now. Galaxy Battles, or something I think it's called. You could watch that?
-
In advance of it all, I'll tip my hat to you James and wish you good luck .As this is going to be a wonderfully monstrous piece of nonsense to wrangle.
Looking forward to seeing what this inspires.
Which is a longwinded way of saying,I'm in.
Mark.
-
Could 'Flight' include running away?
Just asking :D
-
I reckon I am out.
I cannot see myself sensibly fitting the theme into any of my projects.
-
Aw, i won't resist! I'm in! :)
-
Get on with it Jim. :?
Hey... It is not a paid job, you know.
-
Could 'Flight' include running away?
Just asking :D
No ::) lol
-
I am still in.
-
Okay, so I see the announcement of Flight, but I'm missing the rules. This will be the first time I've entered one of these, so I need it all spelled out... lol
If there are no changes to previous contests, then pointing me to an accurate set of rules from previous years' will be just fine.
I am thinking there is a way to do this, so I am still tentatively in...(he says, mind whirling like, well, something ready to take flight...)

Count me in!

Hey... It is not a paid job, you know.
Yep.
-
Okay, so I see the announcement of Flight, but I'm missing the rules.
First post Mike :)
Living instead of mechanical is acceptable?
Of course,as long as most of it is scratchbuilt etc.
cheers
James

Hm...maybe a tower with a flight of stairs...

Nope, 'fraid not.

I think I am out. I don't think I can fit the theme into any of my projects.
-
It'll be a 'flight' of fantasy to think I'll finish it! Got a few ideas though.
-
I'm out...the deadline is too tight and I don't have the time to build something completely new. I have to finish off more Cyberpunk stuff...now with Flight I could have gone for a landing platform or something...but I don't have the time to build it! Poldercon is in a month...so priorities...
Can't wait to see what others build though 8)

You could use those trusses and make a "flyover" :D ;D
-
I'm out. I spent the past year building Martian skyships and flyers. I'm pretty much done with flying stuff. Sorry.
Will follow all your exploits closely though.
-
Coolio ....
I am in - a 'flying volcano'....
only joking :D
-
Sorry James but I'm out too .... I do want to build a 1/56 Waco glider at some point but I don't think I can do that in 6 weeks alongside other projects. Thanks for organising though and good luck to all who will give the comp a crack. :D
-
Sadly I am out too. I can't think of anything that would fit my range of projects at the moment. Thanks for organising the contest, James and I wish all the participants good luck.
-
I'm still in for now.
Please change my username from "Vonlucky" to "von Lucky".
Now to think of something.
-
Yeeesssss! ;D I can do flight!
-
Oh man, I have so many flying things already half finished. Should I start another one... Maybe I should. lol
-
No worries for those not wanting to enter, it would be impossible to pick a subject that would work or appeal to everyone :)
cheers
James
-
Whilst I would love to fashion a flying spaghetti monster out of suitabled scaled pasta, I am and will be O/S for the next 6 weeks so its not really feasible.
-
I am still very much 'in'. :)
-
I too am still in.

Is FLIGHT limited to aerodynamical means or does it allow
hovering, skimming, floating, anti-grav repulsors, rocket drives and the like?

I hope so...

I like the theme!
I'm still in.
Thanks

I've got several ideas...I'm in.

Yes, that's all fine :)

-
Still in! Just need an idea! :?
-
Was going to be out, then decided I could do something(s) interesting so I'm still in. Nice scope for this one. Which one to choose now?
-
I think I might try to do something this year. Need more flyers for VSF mars or Venus.
-
James is it allowed to put up the build pictures on my Blog as a host to link them to LAF? Of course no painted pictures!
-
Can someone tell me which tool to use to make a photo montage on a MAC?! Have never done that before
-
Sorry to say; I don't have any inspiration and I don't think I will manage within 6 weeks. So I'm out :'(
DJ

I would prefer your thread here to have all the relevant pictures on it Tom, if you don't mind :)

Dunno if it's necessary to say so, but: I'm still in.

I'm in, i just need Jim to confirm if my initial idea is valid.

OK - Inspiration found - we are go for launch :D

Never mind James will use Photobucket
-
James were do I host the pictures then ?
There will be a gallery set up on the forum for the very purpose of the competition and it will be available from the 9th :)
cheers
James
-
Oh, OK I misunderstood that . Sorry :-X
-
I am in
-
Well I'll bite (I'm in) as perhaps this might get me to finally build a airship I have had in the "Dream stage" for years! ;D
-
I'm really sorry but I'll probably pull out of this; it sounds amazing but I don't really have an inspiration or requirement for the theme!
However I'd just like to thank James and his crew for arranging this. It's going to be something very fun to watch over the next few week.
Cheers
Andy
-
I'll stay in, I want to add to my Space Hulk layout anyway.
-
Remember chaps, not to start building until the 9th but of course thread starts for ideas etc are perfectly permissible :)
cheers

This is my first "Build Something" effort, but isn't it traditional to spend the first five and a half weeks on something else, and then panic in the last couple of days ....?
:D

I think it's obvious - My Flying Shark post.....
But I'm in.
Tony
-
Still on the fence. I have some stuff I'd like to do that fits in with the theme (ACW observation balloon or modified quadjumper) but whether I can do it in the timescale or not is the big thing. So far I'm 1 finished 1 unfinished in the BSCs.
-
OK, it seems that I am back in.
Hopefully I can finish it in time.......
-

Hopefully I can finish it in time.......
Well if you're doing it! :D
Star Wars related?
-
Already started what will become my build thread, but yes, I'm in too!
I realized recently that the small motor yacht I started as a BSC entry at least four years ago is still sitting on the shelves above my workbench, still unfinished...
-
Star Wars related?
Could be.
Maybe.....
::)
-
To confirm, building includes drawing out the design to determine dimensions, etc along with 3D modelling work.
Only thing that can be done now is scrap-booking ideas from the internet/elsewhere. Correct?

I've added a small addendum to the point of, if a thread hasn't been started in the board by the 8th then you won't be allowed to enter :)

Not now ;)
-
Well looks like I am in. Going to make some kind of VSF flyer for mars or Venus. Time to get to work.
-
I'm still in, assuming I get all my parts assembled in time.
-
The theme does not fit any of my wargaming plans for the moment, so I won't be participating.
-
Flight!
;D
Count me in.
Thank you...
-
Well, I've got a Barsoom game to run for Cold Wars that just happened to mention a crashed airship in the description, so I guess I have to go with that!
-
I can't fit this into anything I'm currently working on so I won't be taking part.
-
A real shame Paul (but understandable given the number of projects you have), I was looking forward to seeing what you came up with.
:)
-
Count me in. I just got some plane kits for Christmas and this will add some extra motivation.
-
I can't easily fit the theme in to what I'm currently playing so I'm gonna sit this one out.
-
On your marks......get set...... ;)
-
I havn't been able to come up with any decent idea at all, I have half a dozen flying things WIP anyway, so it might be for the best if I don't jump in on this. :`
-
On your marks......get set...... ;)
One more day....start sharpening that pencil :D
-
I realise this is a bit last-minute, but I'd quite like to participate in this. :)
-
I guess that I'm out as my idea has been snaffled already - I guess that I'll finish off some stalled projects instead.
Good luck all.
-
Names added and removed.
Last call chaps, last call :)
If your thread hasn't been started by the time I get up tomorrow morning then I'll take your name from the list and the Build Something Contest will start in earnest :)
I've no idea when I'll get up but it'll be before ten GMT ;D
cheers
James
-
Go on then, add me back, I'll think of something......
I know, I'm a sucker!!!
-
I don't know about the rest of you, but -as interesting as the contents may be- I'm going to have to stop looking at the BSC thread if I'm going to have any time at all to do my own build! :D
I mean: The time out of each day to keep track of all those posts...if it comes out of my drinking time I won't have the inspiration to work! ;)
-
60 odd participants (with the emphasis on the 'odd' :D) - should be quite a show.
Looking forward to seeing all the projects bloom into beautiful creations :)
-
I gotta admit, I have everything laid out for starting tomorrow, and all the plans in place, bits chosen, etc. I may be done with it by the end of the week (except the painting).
-
I may be done with it by the end of the week (except the painting).
Anyone in the vicinity may want to move back a safe distance to avoid the lightning strike...
-
I just spent 3.5 hours putting an Ikea bed together. Can I submit that? (That said, there was plenty of cardboard I've taken for my terrain making horde.)
-
Did you throw pieces of it in frustration. That fits the flying theme.
-
Are we there yet?
-
Patience young Padawan. :D
-
1:15 to go.... ;D
-

Does it have a feather mattress? That may count you 'in' on the flight theme! ;)
-
Well I'm having breakfast first...
Anyone care to do some statistics - how many VSF, sci-fi, fantasy, historical; or how many with conventional wings, non-conventional, blades, no-wings at all etc.? This year's theme has been quite successful, and participation is big enough to have some fun with numbers. And I'll be too busy* (or lazy) to do this... :D
*replacing bathroom taps grumble....
-
Right then, I'm up ;D
Start your scalpels, the Build Something Contest is a go :D :D :D
-
Too tired/hot/tipsy to handle a blade.
However - stats I can do.

No more entrant threads please and I've altered the list in the first post to match the build thread present.
All progress photos to be posted in your threads and the final entry photos sent to the below email address before the 23:59 GMT deadline on the 18th Feb.

I am awake and off! There is 3/4" of frozen rain sheeting everything here, so I have no excuse to do anything but model! WooT!

James,
I'm so sorry but I'm out of the contest.
Unfortunately I had no ideas (quite strange as actually I have a degree in aeronautical engineering! :o), or I had some ideas about crashed whatever, flying saucers, very pulp planes but at the end I had a look at the several projects waiting for me (WW2 Normandie village, minis and other for a Pulp Alley campaign, a couple (better: a couple of couples) of 1/56 tanks, etcetc. and so I decided to sit on the side and enjoy the competition.
Anyway, thank you for you efforts and organization! :)
Marco
-
No worries Marco. Hopefully next year? :)
cheers
James
-
Good luck to all participates! Some very promising ideas and concepts around ... :o
-
What if you're already done? (well, I haven't finished painting it yet....)
-
Then you make all those that haven't started feel inadequate ;)
-
What if you're already done? (well, I haven't finished painting it yet....)
You have to wait until the end I'm afraid :)
Finish painting it (but don't post any pip pictures) and then send it to the Build Something email.

I'm a newbie to LAF, and this is (obviously) my first BSC so I may be showing the wet behind my ears, but...
Just wanted to post a general/overall WOW! to what I've seen so far on the builds.
I'm torn between "Just give up, you're out of this league" and "What an inspiration!"
Either way - thanks to the organizers and participants for presenting an excuse to wonder at and contribute to this hobby.

You are NEVER out of their league - we can all find ways to be awesome. But I agree, the wealth of ideas to steal to look at is incredible.

I know what you mean. I think it is about playing to your strengths and pushing your limits/comfort zone. For me it is really hard to come by a lot of the resources available easily throughout Europe and the USA. Which would make things expensive, so improvisation is a must which which is what the comp is all about.
Saying that mine is just green stuff this year and I didn't need to dig into my rubbish, recycling and assorted bits and pieces
-
I did.
You did get it, right?
I'll be sorting the email out tomorrow and will let you know, been a bit busy this week :)
cheers
James
-
I would just like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone taking part! I don't think you'd find a competition anywhere, where the participants taking part actually give you help and encouragement during the process of building your entry!
Thanks guys and keep up the good work!

Indeed, it's inspiring to see the huge variety of concepts, techniques, models and banter ;D
-
The biggest problem I've got it time to see all the competition! :?
-
I am struggling to get started this year - is a bit cold is my garage and all the amazing entries I have seen so far is really putting me off starting.
Hopefully managed something this week
-
Yep, the talent involved is awe-inspiring. Makes me want to drop my tools but I find the time limit good motivation to finish a task rather than letting it languish.

+1. I have cleaned my desk and have reorganised the project to something small but can be easily scaled up. Stadand this year is insane (but in a good way).

Come up t mine and do in my house. I don't think that counts as me helping you do your build entry, does it?
The central heating is on and there's enough coffee to sink a ship. Plus I think I've got most of the raw materials you might need!

It's a bit of a trek from York, but I'd love to see where you create your masterpieces, and the coffee really sells it.

So, it's 'all over to Andy's for the weekend' then...?
;)
-
I'll lay on a bus then, gents? You'll all be disappointed when you see where I build shit! :'( You have to work round the bikes and all the other stuff my wife has thrown in the room!
You wanting Saturday AND Sunday Colin?
-
I'll book a plane ticket then.
-
We will just stick to the one Day, Sunday would suit me better?
-
I afraid it'll probably have to be Saturday! :?
-
I think we have mum and dad coming for dinner on the Saturday? I can't remember why the Saturday so I presume I must be doing something else on the Sunday? I'll get back to you when I know more

Did you apply in writing in triplicate?
I'm not sure, but I think doing it once in 54mm counts as enough?

Looking throught he build logs - simply wow.
Some amazing edifices, whatsits and doohickies appearing from the full span of wargaming eras.
-
It is impressive - I just wish people would hurry up and get done... ;)
-
Just a blanket well done everyone (so far) These builds are inspiring and really cool ...keep it up.
-
Finished! :D
So......how do you take decent pictures of a big f@#king flying hotel? My bit of A4 background paper ain't going to cut the mustardM :'( I know....first world problems!
-
Buy an A3 sheet? ;)
-
lol
-
I've realised when I was making a montage, that in my rush, I never took a picture of the fully completed, unpainted model! >:( The picture I last took of the build before painting only had some small details to add, does that mess me up for my entry? :'(

I feel like a bit of a fud! Would you believe I made the SAME mistake when I entered a couple of years ago in the 'water' themed contest! >:( I think I get too caught up in the excitement of finishing! :?
Dam!....how many days to go now? :'(
I'm dying to see all the finished projects!

Ohhh! That's just nasty! lol
I reckon I could do it better second time around! I could do it in about half the time now too! Maybe I could start an EasyFloateltm fleet?
-
Start again? I think you're disqualified from this and all future contests.
Zero tolerance :D
(Part of me wants this BSC to be over, the other part wants an extra week. Looking forward to ALL entries.)

Just Wow!!!! that's all Just Wow!!!!
-
I think I am going to have to drop out. I am just to busy with other things to get anything done on my project at this time.

Sorry to hear HerbyF - hopefully next time.

So he did! 8)
-
Hey! Who are you calling a lunatic? I prefer the term "efficient build specialist", thank you.
It's my background - I spent so many years as a fabricator, that quick and clean is the way I prefer to do builds.
Besides, gribblies all over look nice, but get in the way of gameplay (in my experience).
-
Hey! Who are you calling a lunatic?
OK. How about 'common sense challenged'?
-
Hey! Who are you calling a lunatic? I prefer the term "efficient build specialist", thank you.
No actual offence intended, Mr Efficient Build Specialist....
Honest.
:D ;)

Mine was in a couple of weeks ago! he says quietly!
-
OK. How about 'common sense challenged'?
Well, being a US citizen at this time, I think I have to explain that common sense no longer exists in a recognizable form here...it's too rare.
Mine was in a couple of weeks ago! he says quietly!
Fixed that for you.
-
Mine was in a couple of weeks ago! he says quietly!
Well done Andy. So that's 2 in. Yay :D

I cocked up so have now submitted a replacement ..... :o
Sorry ::)

Its too fecking cold in my garage so I am not going to be able to get my entry finished in time
Maybe finish it when the weather improves
Good luck to all the other entrants
It has been an amazing competition this year
I feel well out classed anyway

The Hammerhead Shark has been submitted.
Tony
-
You know you can go off some people ,Tony.
It's going to be close to the wire for myself( not even undercoated yet. ).
-
The Tiger Moth has been submitted too
-
Can I just check something please (sorry if I've missed thus)? I'm assuming I'm OK to photograph the entry in a setting with miniatures for scale, etc, much in the same way an LPL entry could be built up?
-

I hope so or mine is gonna look pretty daft.
;D ;D
-
I'm worried about time! Might not make it:P
-
I posted mine with minis Steve but they were the minis made as part of the build. At the least, I don't see why you couldn't use a freshly painted mini as at worst that'd fall within the 25%. As to old painted minis, no idea I'm afraid. :) (that really should be a furrowed brow, not a smile !)
-
Well, I've done it now. Chucked a few Wotc bendies in for scale as I felt it was important to convey the size of the thing.
-
I've got two snotlings on mine, I think it's okay: "only 0-25% can be commercially bought items or figures."
And "The entry can either be solely a diorama/vignette piece or it can be for gaming with, the choice is yours."
-
Submitted at last. Now to sit back and - no, wait, the LPL dates have been set already! :o :D
-
I'm withdrawing from this years competition . Unfortunately life has got in the way( but it is paying for the privilege).
Just remains to wish everyone who remains within the competition. Good luck.
All the best.
Mark.
-
I think I just disqualified myself - I forgot to mount mine on a base, and don't have time to do so now... :'(
-
Shit, mine isn't on a base either as it's freestanding to fit in with my other ships. Unless you count the mdf tiles I put it on for photos?
-
Any idea if final entries need to be painted? Mine won't be (I'll probably try to get it cast instead, I definitely don't have time to paint in any case)
Besides. I think my painting would be detrimental. lol
-
I think they do have to be painted mate. Could you spray undercoat it the finished colour and just give it a quick wash and block in the harness and load?

Sorry to hear it! We seem to be running out of participants! :o

Surely the base thing is just for size purposes? Just so your model is bigger than the average?

I couldn't find anything in Jims original post. It just mentions 'finished' entries. I would think it means painted buddy.
-
I took 'Base size' to mean footprint and not a literal base.
Had I made several of the entries, that last thing I would want would be to have a base integrated.

That's pretty much how I interpreted it. I never intended to put it on a base as I wanted to build something I'd game with.
-
I created a flight stand that I will argue is its base... lol
Done, amazingly, after the near-disaster with it when I got home from work and sat down to finish the last few things. I'll take pics tomorrow, I think...

Is the requirement just a single 800x800 picture?
General Rules -
Final entries must consist of either one photo or a photo montage of the finished piece. No photo manipulation will be allowed apart from the usual cropping, white balance, contrast as long as they are within reason. Again, if you are unsure then please ask.
Photo size should be 800x800 pixles and sent as a jpeg to buildsomething@lead-adventure.de

Missed that.... ta!

I never thought of asking, but I sent my entry in with text added. It's just the name of my entry in the top right hand corner! :?

Well that's you out I'm afraid ( ;D) rules paragraph 6 subsection b clause 4e clearly states Andym is too bloody good anyway. :D
Can't see it being a problem mate. I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

I never thought of asking, but I sent my entry in with text added. It's just the name of my entry in the top right hand corner! :?
I put my title in the top left.
Is that OK James?!?!?!?

Oh boy, are you fellas in trouble?
The rules specifically state that if the title is anywhere other than the bottom left then you are out.
Sorry, chaps......

Gents, thanks for your patience :)
I'm back now and will be sorting out the entries this weekend with a view to getting the voting polls ready by the end of next week.
Some cracking work all round, it's gonna be a tough one 8)
Labelled pictures are fine but just leave it at the title/name.
cheers
James
-
Welcome back James :)
Just to flag that I made a mistake with my image and resubmitted it. So it's the second email/version that is the entry. Sorry for the fuss. :)
-
My picture has been fired off. Glad I jumped in- this is a project I have had on the 'to-do list' for quite a long time.
-
Done - pic sent!! :o

And submitted.

Is it worth letting the guys struggling with time, to submit their entries while you're getting the polls ready? I would really like to see some of those really ambitious projects that didn't quite have enough time! Being one of the guys finished within the timescale, it doesn't bother me to extend the deadline.
-
Me neither for what it's worth. :)
-
Ditto.

Unless it takes a week or two to get the polls ready, I could still not finish mine in time lol (I have to work today :( no time to build...or paint).
But I appreciate the thought, this is why I like LAF :) Others my finish with the extra time, I wouldn't mind that either.
-
If the general consensus goes for it, I don't see why not.
We've all had real life get in the way at some point or another.
cheers
James
-
Again, having already finished, I don't have an issue with others getting a bit of extra time - after all, the more finished entries the better.
8)
-
Personally I'm not keen on rule changes for LAF comps like this. For example, it was quite strict at the outset as regards 3D printing so and I think it's unfair to be flexible on some major rules and not on others. That said, as there's a consensus that's obviously fine with me for those that still want to compete and I wish everyone luck but for myself I'd like to withdraw my entry. Please don't include me in the voting poll, James. Thanks. :)
-
:(
Your entry is one of those that has given me (and a whole load of others) the most satisfaction watching your progress....why withdraw now mate?
I hope you will reconsider.
-
Yeah it's one of my favourite entries too. I can't wait to see it.
-
Thanks Akky and Steve. I'm not bothered so much about competing as fairness. The rules were offered up with the deadline and some people will have worked to reach it or given up because they didn't think they could. My personal take is that it's unreasonable to change the deadline on the day of the deadline (two weeks ago, fine). Simple as that really. :)
Edit: Just to clarify, I've no hard feelings and am very happy for the participants who want to continue to change the deadline.
James: if you could move my BSC thread over to general workbench that'd be great. Thanks. :)
-
For example, it was quite strict at the outset as regards 3D printing so and I think it's unfair to be flexible on some major rules and not on others.
This is actually an excellent point that I hadn't thought about.
Also think about the people that never entered or dropped out weeks ago because the current deadline was one they believed they weren't going to make. Moving the goal posts now will make them feel a little miffed. Hell - at the end of the day there's nothing stopping those that don't make the deadline from continuing on with their builds (BSC being a catalyst to start something).
James - please keep me in, but note that I don't feel we should extend the deadline.
As an aside to this, please note that for future events I recommend to have the start and end time at the same time of the day. Beefcake and I were hamstrung from starting in the morning on the first day (Sunday) and are required to submit our entires by the morning (so effectively losing a day).
Edit: clarified some of my points.
-
That's a fair point which I hadn't considered either. I really don't mind late entries from a personal perspective but I also don't want to put anyone out who has dropped out due to the deadline, etc. I certainly don't want to see Steve's entry pulled.
-
:)
I'm not on a crusade for rules adherence. :D. I'm just acting on my own personal preference. Admin was favourable to the change and the immediate consensus was positive. I'm not trying to or even wanting to change that. I've simply made a decision for myself based on my early stance on the rules and what I've since said in threads to people struggling with the deadline. As such I feel that it would be hypocritical of me to continue: that's a judgment about me by me. ;). Similarly, even if the deadline were not now changed (or otherwise treated generously) I'd still be withdrawing, as I'd made my decision.
The dragon will still be seen in its finished form, as l'll post up the finished images in the build thread later today. :)
And really, there's no foot-stomping or hard-feelings. Good luck everyone. :D
-
Deadline will remain the same and your thread will be moved Steve.
cheers
James
-
I'm sorry to hear that, and now I feel guilty :(
But I can only admire someone who sticks to his word.
-
your thread will be moved Steve.
Cheers James. :)
Good luck everyone and I really do look forward to drooling over the entries idc. ;D
-
Personally I entered this(and withdrew) for the fun of the build, and knowing there was a deadline.Once it became clear that work commitments meant I'd loose the sense of fun meeting the deadline I withdrew.
For me the competition was and is secondary. I've gained more enjoyment from reading everyone else's builds, and been inspired by the number of people who are simply building a model they have a use for,and are working to the same philosophy
' If I make it. Then I make it. If I don't,then I'll still make it!'
I'm glad James has chosen not to extend the deadline. Because that's the point of any competition a time limit ,otherwise you've all been making Workbench Threads( hoping someone will send you a potato!)
It's not the end of the world if you drop out.
I don't think St James of the blue brick.has invented a ' Shunned ' patch for those who do.
( I wouldn't put it past him though)
Mark.
-
My own motivation for taking part was to get something done in a short timeframe, so I'm happy with the end result, even if I don't get a single vote. Equally though, I've really enjoyed watching everyone else's threads, as much as I've enjoyed building my own project - there are some really talented guys on here, and frankly what LAF members can do with putty, card, wood, plasticard or the contents of the average recycling bin is inspirational.
Thanks everyone for your updates, and thanks again to Jim for running it - looking forward to seeing the photos in due course.
:)
-
REALLY sorry for bringing this up!!! :o
Sorry, my intention was not to cause offence! My thinking was that this was a more relaxed competition! The fact the we've ALL been encouraging each other, participants egging on other participants, to go further and keep going was testament to this! But my comments seem to have been taken wrongly or ,somehow, in the wrong context!
James, sorry for any hassle!!!
-
Build finished and photo sent
Mick
-
Photo sent....if you can call it that.
I had not realised what a pig something of that design would be to get decent pictures of.
A different colour scheme would have helped, in hindsight....I will probably paint another one later once the competition is over.
Oh, well. I entered this more as a challenge to make something that I normally would not have and also with the remit to make something that could be cast up.
Getting to see everyone else make some truly wonderful stuff has been a real treat and just goes to show what talent there is around here.
Lets hope that this helps spur everyone on to 'make more stuff' even if there is no contest to give you the kick up the backside.
:D
-
Although I will be building and painting until the 11th hour (which may only be the 7th hour in this time zone and they will be prying the paint brush and superglue from my cold dead hands) I see no way save if the Tardis materializes in my house that I will finish the Sparrow on time. I really do appreciate the willingness of others to extend the deadline (part of the reason the LAF is a such a great place) but I am glad James you did not change the deadline as it is an integral part of the competition. My earlier comment should only have been taken as my off hand way of indicating I likely will not make the deadline; not advocating an extension. Like has been mentioned by others, the competition has been secondary for me but a great motivator to get something built and a chance to see some great projects come together.
Steve, I do hope you reconsider as I have found your build so inspiring and so deserving to the entered.
Cheers and best luck to those who have submitted on time. Looking forward to seeing the finished pieces
At least now I will be able to post more WIP shots. :)
-
Braz, yours is one of my favourites ;) :D
Folks, there really is no drama associated with my withdrawal: just me sticking with a highly *personal* principle. There's no offence taken by me and I've intended no offence to anyone else, honestly. :) Quite simply, because of what I'd previously written I would have been a hypocrite if I'd not voiced disagreement with the proposal, and being the first to raise disagreement I did not want to be able to gain any advantage by doing so. It'd be great if we could leave it at that as I'd rather the focus was on the comp. :)
-
And I think that sentiment admirably draws a line under it. At least I got to see the marvellous dragon early!
On to the photos next week.
-
Now submitted. Not sure if I did it correctly, I've got a fever and the painting was done in a slightly delerious manner. :-X
-

My alternative entry will be in by midnight. I just have some finishing touches and photography to take care of.
-
Alternative entry? Ooh, I'm intrigued.
-
One 800x800 photo of the finished thing (montages OK) and one 800x800 photo of the primered/unfinished thing, is that right?
I scanned through the initial rules post, could have sworn I saw that somewhere, but now can't.
Disregard the above, clearly the coffee hasn't kicked in yet this Saturday morning!
Final entries must consist of either one photo or a photo montage of the finished piece. No photo manipulation will be allowed apart from the usual cropping, white balance, contrast as long as they are within reason. Again, if you are unsure then please ask.

AND DONE! Photo sent!

Phew, finished!
Really looking forward to seeing everyone's models :)

Talk about last minute. :o Sent my entry to James at 2359 hrs.....
I had to stop painting to get the photos done, but at least it has paint on it.
Good luck to everyone that entered. Really looking forward to seeing the final entries. 8)

Thanks everyone for participating! This contest has been a real inspiration to get me building again after a few years of nothing. Really looking forward to seeing the final photos. JT

But congrats all the same! :D

Cheap build materials though lol

Does this contest have rules similar to the LPL, with regard to posting images of the build elsewhere? For example, no posts for the entire run while it is competing, or exclusive to LAF during the first round, etc.
-
Sorry gents, should be ready in a couple of days. Couldn't get it finished at the weekend.
Badger away :)
cheers
James
-
That's Ok Jim...but just remember when you announce the winner grab the right Envelope lol
-
Never mind. Hope everything works out and we get to see what everyone has beavered away on.
(And I just wasted 20 minutes on badger and beaver Google images and YouTube... there are some crazy people willing to get up close and personal to those angry looking animals!)

Absolutely amazing work :-* :o
-
Fantastic quality alround! :-* I'm really honoured to be in with the rest of you talented guys in this competition!
-
I'll echo the above comments, there is a really high level of imagination and workmanship on display.
-
Voted, but it was hard. I don't know how I will decide on a vote from the finalists though... o_o
Edit: Well it seems I left out Group A and remembered why. I still can't choose an entry...
-
I don't think you put anyone's nose out of joint the last time, but I think I've had a change of heart with it. My original thinking was its so easy to make repeated patterns and just copy and paste over your 3D design. But I hadn't really considered the whole making one model and casting it multiple times to get the same effect thing.
Personally, I think Hammers it right, let's have the discussion later, after the comp. It may be worth having a conversation about ANY processes we can use, be it 3D printing, sculpting, casting or laser cutting. Maybe change it for the next time?
-
I think it has been a great competition so far. I am really impressed with all the entries and sorry I couldn't finish my own.
Leave the rules as is.
Just add extra time for the slow pokes :D
A bit more notice of the theme would be nice as I had a half finished ship I could have used :'(
-
When an we post picture of our creation on our blog site?
-
Did my voting... now back to painting Vikings... :)
-
When an we post picture of our creation on our blog site?
In comptetitions like this we have had a policy not to post entires elswhere until voting is over. In this case, since there are two rounds, it means those entries which are still in play for round two will have to wait till that is over.
-
Fantastic builds, terrible grammar (potato not POTATOE, the e is for plural as in potatoes ... don't know why, just is!).
-
Thanks again to Jimbibbly and Hammers for putting it all together.
-
Many thanks to Peder for stepping up when I wasn't available, you're a star :)
cheers
