In 2017 Warlord Games will release a new samurai miniatures game called Test of Honour. No more info as of now.

-
And I've been trying to get more info out of the WG gurus over on their forum.
So far...nothing...
-
Warlord worked with Wargames factory, so I expect the old figures in plastic they made.

Ick...don't care for Wargames Factory minis at all.

They had a few gems in the mix. Their greatcoat troopers and their stuff that they made with Dreamforge.
Their samurai were great to use for bits as well because the plastic weapons were able to be extremely thin.
I also liked their Amazons and greeks that could be mixed with other sets.
-
Pretty pleased that they are re-releasing the old WF minis (for that is what these are), needed a final box of the samurai for a project and then they went OOP. WF wise I'm quite a fan of their Samurai and Colonial Militia some of their other stuff was a bit dodge
-
I wasn't crazy about their foot Samurai, but the mounted version were quite good. Their ashigaru were also nice and a nice mix with the Perry sculpts.
-
Nice too see but unfortunately for me I am doing early samurai. :( Got to love those pumpkin head Dixons!! :)
-

The price will probably double..... :(
-
Will be interesting to see the rules, preferably large skirmish size, not fussed about the minis, they are not very good and there are other companies that make better
-
WLG has offered WGF samurai sprues for a while now. Test of Honor is pretty clearly in the same vein as Project Z (and people seem to totally gloss over the game content there, too). I wonder if WLG are going to tweak the samurai sprues at all. IMO they were already pretty great for the price. I will almost certainly pick up at least the core box here.
-
preferably large skirmish size
I really hope not. There are already a lot of options for this - some of them are even good. A mid-sized skirmish game would be great.
-
What are the large skirmish rule sets, around 50 figs a side is what I was thinking
-
I'm thinking about the Boshin War...
-

That is my feeling as well.
I have a few Perry Samurai for Ronin- now it looks like I will have to buy more....
-
Will probably pick this one up :).
Good excuse to finally get me some of those Perry and Foundry Samurai...
-
Warlord earns money with selling a lot of figures, so I expect a large skirmish. For smaller games Osprey is the address with Ronin. Or Ronin Hood with it's brilliant figures (look the thread here)
-
I'm definitely interested in seeing what they have come up with.

From the WLG trade newsletter:
Test of Honour is a skirmish wargame played with roughly 10-20 models on each side. Players select their force before each game based around a samurai hero along with one or two loyal samurai companions and a variety of clan soldiers. Battles are swift and bloody as players alternate acting with one of their warriors – moving and fighting to achieve the objective of the scenario, whether that be cutting down the enemy, defending an outpost or finding and protecting a spy.
As you play through the scenarios your samurai will use new skills, and perhaps even take the shameful path of deceit and trickery to gain victory – such choices are the ultimate test of honour. This new Samurai boxed miniatures game has a street date of the 25th of March.
The bundle is the best way to get this game for your store with extra discount, exclusive miniature and cards.

That's disappointing. Being another skirmish game moves it from a "definite buy" to an "unlikely" purchase for me.
-
Whether or not I'll get into it I don't know, but it doesn't sound like they are re-releasing the old WF boxes as is at all.
-

Agreed...bit of a relief actually. :D
-
Can't see the pic Manchu posted, what was it?
-
I was quite excited when I thought is was large skirmish/small battle but as a skirmish I (personally) can't see it competing with Ronin. :-[
I also look at (for me) the poor quality of the recent Project Z and Terminator rules and wonder if these will be another "back of a fag packet"set to sell figures.
-
It was the ToH trade bundle flier - gave us MSRP and names of packs:
the core box will be 35GBP/49.99USD
Mounted Samurai will be 15/24
"Masked Men" and "Pauper Soldiers" will be 18/29
Ronin will be 12/20
the Samurai Warband will be 20/32
and a pack of ToH dice will be 10/16
-
Oh, thanks! I must admit I'm intrigued by the sets mentioned. The WGF samurai were a bit ugly, but seeing the rework they did on the Project Z zombies, they can turn out decent.
-

So I know that Project Z is very simple - but it also strikes me as perfectly serviceable (I have only read them, not played them). Also the Terminator rule set is just really, really cool and pretty substantial, so the problem cannot be - as with Project Z - that they are too light. Just very confusing to see those two rule sets thrown together in a blanket criticism.
Also, I have played and I very much like Ronin. I even made up a demo board and volunteered to basically market it at my LGS on their "indie miniatures open" day:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=97399.0
But I don't think that ToH and Ronin are really in competition. If anything, they multiply each others' value. More stuff to do with your Ronin figures, more stuff to do with your ToH figures.
The LGS actually sold bundles of WGF Samurai along with copies of Ronin the day I ran the demo!
-
I saw your thread earlier: very nice.
The box set might be decent value and re-cut sprues would be an improvement. If I picked it up I think I would probably just play Ronin Rampant. :D
-
Not a bad idea!

Thanks! I shared them on FB if You don't mind.

Haha no worries - these were shared on FB by Andy Hobday of Warlord!

....will there be Ninjas ?
-
Hey,
will it be the old Wargame Factory minies :
https://store.warlordgames.com/collections/feudal-japan-1467-1603
which are, according to some of my fellow gamers, a pain in the ass to assemble?
Thanks

Yes they are. Although there were some internet rumblings that they had been "re-cut".

I hope not...

When I heard about this i was thinking hard back book.... and then I saw the image of a box... and now whats inside.... it may be a cracking bit of fun, but its looks like a very thin rulebook...... Just worried it be like Project Z which was......cough cough..... fingers crossed.....

Look like the same sprues to me.
-

To me as well; but I am not sure what re-cut involves or even what the end result would be- possibly better detail or fit neither of which would be apparent from the pictures. In any case, just an internet rumour which is equally likely to be false. ::)
-
Looks like a nice full box of figures I look for forward to the core rules, and see what feeling i get from it....
-
The Project Z rules are great for one-off scenarios. I know some people have trouble with the lack of campaign support in Project Z but the sales patter for Test of Honour explicitly references campaign play. I hope the rather superficial repetition of "Project Z is baaaad" (slightly ironic, given the theme) doesn't put people off this game.

Project Z is really that bad?
-
As for "Bad" well its a basic rule set for what you get in the box. But no rules for noise, and rolling 10 dice each time i shoot a smg or wave a chainsaw around is alot of rolling. Ammo rules suck too.
But its not about that for me... its the following feeling and just my own personal feeling
Warlord for me means quality products, full colour rules in hardback form with detail and love within those`s pages. I have K47, bolt action and GOA all lovely books to own, read and enjoy. Then came Project Z and then soon Test of Honour, which is different in more detail than Z.
Then of course you have Doctor who... A bbc game that warlord are making. Again i feel its not going to be a hardback full colour book with the history of DW but a simple game also.time will tell of course.
It reminds me of the old days when GW when they had there core solid products and then those little games like lost patrol and battlefleet which you rolled in the box lid. I just want Warlord to keep making solid, lovely and supported game systems... as i do seem to love them.....
-
Thanks Soulman

Warlord Games Article (http://www.warlordgames.com/test-of-honour-gameplay-free-pdf/?utm_source=Warlord+Games+Newsletter&utm_campaign=3b3d00fbad-Warlord_Games_Wednesday_News_8th_Feb_2017&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b7e928b4ed-3b3d00fbad-132877965&mc_cid=3b3d00fbad&mc_eid=ae6f9bcad6)
There are two new pictures in this article, showing some of the figures. One shows four Samurai. They look like the WGF bodies with new heads and one completely different model that is propably metal. Maybe those come from the recut frames.
-
On the facebook group they state that new metals are being made. Maybe its to supplement their range for Pike and Shotte so they can release a new campaign book ?
-
Just had a quick read of the rules and I`m one happy bunny.... Games out in March and also at the same time they will be box sets of other figures too which will come with games as well.....
-
Something new at Warlord Games :
http://www.warlordgames.com/test-of-honour-designers-notes/?utm_source=Warlord+Games+Newsletter&utm_campaign=047c02b053-Warlord_Games_Wednesday_News_%26_Hobby_15th_February&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b7e928b4ed-047c02b053-132880677&mc_cid=047c02b053&mc_eid=4ed41da72a
And a Facebook page :
https://www.facebook.com/groups/testofhonour/
According to the Facebook page, price should be around 35£
-
I posted the prices a few weeks ago:

Sounds interesting
Ronin hasn't grabbed me
Maybe this will and I'll get more samurai painted!
-
Daisho (rules) and metal (figures): enough :-* lol
I don't feel the need of a new skirmish game, Daisho (Ronin too) got everything I need: "chambara" style games, historical, fantasy and a mix of the two, scenarios with a several different set-ups and complications, a lot of characters, ecc...
Daisho basically is IHMN game system but well taylored for "Nippon", as Blood Eagle for vikings/dark ages.
We even play it multiplayer and campaign system with no efforts.
Perry, Northstar, Bushido and all the other "metal" manufacturers are very very very nice I got about 100pieces.
I had the old WGF (now Warlods) samurai: a pain to assemble and not that great. I traded them for something else.
Nothing against Warlords, I often buy from them WW2 and ancients mostly, but personally (my humble opinion) for next oriental batch of figures I'll wait for next CMON KS game: Rising star.
Ciao
PS: About the free PDF, free... the demo. Full rules with cards and dices are not free.
-
Got to play the game last week at Warlord here's a nice battle report.
http://tabletopgamesuk.co.uk/2017/03/10/test-of-honour-batter-report/
Although its small ish scale you could up the size of the game with ease and even run multiple players.
-
I played five games of ToH with my existing 28mm feudal Japanese figs this weekend.
The game is a lot of fun and I will definitely be playing it a lot more.
The photos and blog post are here (https://sho3box.com/2017/04/09/test-of-honour-tested/) for anyone interested.
As this is bordering on a double post (I put photos in the thread where I record the development of my samurai forces) I wont put too much more here.
