The "long range halfman scout " will be a flyer similar to Otto Lilienthals flying machine launched from a catapult.
like this more or less:

That'll be a nice little project :)
cheers

Thanks James.

Very cool!
I like the concept a lot. Will there be cowhide or goat skin wings etc?
-
not sure yet but will have a launch rail like the german Strahljaeger Comet from WWII
-
Otto's glider was my first thought but I've a better plan!
Good luck wil watch with interest!

Found a plan on the internet so will start from there but will develop it further maybe to have a propeller driven like a bike ?!

A propeller would be nice I reckon. But then you'd need a bicycle setup to power it I guess.

thats the plan

So today I started building ,too. First I cut out the wings of a Otto Lilienthal flying machine plan I had reduced to the right size:
Then I drew them onto Styrodur. I cut out a 2mm thick sheet for this :
Then I glued spares made from toothpicks to the underside of the wings:

Here you see how thin the wings are:

Here is the pilot. He needs googles and another helmet of course . Will be done in green stuff

That is how fare I came today

A great start - looks like it would fly (or glide) in real life.
:)
-
Nice work!
-
It would be light enough to glide I suppose maybe you have to leave the pilot out.
-
Awesome start with this! 8)

Here is what I did this weekend. I made the rudder and started cladding the body in wood ( made from Styrodur )
The plan:

copied on Styrodur:

so far:

It's starting to take shape
:)
-
So I have finished the Styrodur build for now . Next step is putting in the canvas covers on the hull and fixing the wings. As you can see I started on a flight stand . The flyer is fixed to it by a magnet which enables me to put it on the start ramp too once I build it.

Sorry for the pictures being the wrong way round :? That can only have been the halfman pilot not being accustomed to the controls yet ;D

Brilliant!

This rather cool 8) 8) 8)
Is it the halfman pilot, or did you get the controls wired the wrong way round? >:D :D
-
I suppose it was rather me ;)

So here are the last pictures before painting commences . I am not sure if I can build the launch ramp as well as I have not as much time as I thought to finish this project in time.
So here is the halfman pilot :

The prop is driven by 1 HMP ( Halfman power) similar to a bike:

And the complete Halfman Long Range Flyer (HLRF)
