I'm still in for this but it might be a bit cliche' if I do another Star Wars referenced build. Maybe a vignette rather than just another spaceship?
-
Don't ask us, it's your build ;D
cheers
James

If it's cliche to make yet another bloody excellent model, then I'm sure it will be cliche.
Do it.
:)
-
Well, alright. ::)
I might look at something like an Interdictor or an MC-30. Maybe a Dreadnought or Assault Frigate if I can muster the time and parts.

Can't wait to see it.

so what will it be?
-
Well, eventually all of them. :D
I'll start with the Interdictor, I think.
-
OK, just found an awesome picture of a corvette that I can't seem to link to or copy and show, so just trust me that it is very tasty. :-*
-
Tease
:D
-
And now the start of my glorious ship!

Can you tell what it is yet?

Hammerhead Corvette?
Lush.
:)
-
Nice and clean :)
I don't see any wires for light though...
cheers
James
-
Very neat work! :o
I always have to tidy my stuff up with filler... :(
-
Cheers all!
Hammerhead Corvette?
Ummm.... ::)
Nice and clean :)
I don't see any wires for light though...
Shush you, back in your cave and make more things. >:( ;D Although, if I could find LED's small enough and could work out a circuit based on a watch battery and knew where to buy all these things, I might change my mind on model lighting.
Very neat work! :o

Thanks, I have a couple of tools that help, a small pipe cutter and a really, really, sharp razor saw. I'm now coming to the point in my modelling life that I understand the benefits of quality tools. I still haven't found the perfect side cutters though. :'(

Surface mount leds are very small, and you can order them from lots of places. So, don't let that stop you. :D

Shush, Jim'll hear! :o
Still wouldn't know how to construct a circuit with batteries, switches, restistors and all that malarkey.

This will help: https://learn.adafruit.com/all-about-leds/overview
Now you have no excuse to not put LEDs on it. Jim will be so happy!

Here's the article that taught me:

It may not look much currently but there is a whole lotta thinking going on, plus some engine bits!

I love the way it appears to be hovering above the work surface
:)
From the orientation of the front gubbins, it looks more like a CR 90 variant rather than a hammerhead....or something else entirely?
-
There is a madness to my method! All will, slowly, become clear.

Corvette, now with engines!
It's also now on a gaming base.

Oooh, very cool! It's worth it you know!
-
WOW That looks great :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Nice! :)
Sometime, in the far future, I will try to light up some of my constructions as well.
-
Very nice indeed.
-
That IS nice - I'm still not into lighting up models, but this really is inspiring. 8) 8) 8)
-
Ohhhh!......that's juicy! :o
-
Very impressive, Kev.
You are certainly on to a winner with this.
Such clean lines to boot.
:-* :-*
AND it counters the dark corners of the Berrylands very well.

Those lighting effects look 'out of this world' - fantastic.

Please can you explain how you did the LEDs?
You have a really elegant and small solution.
I would love to see a tutorial with a circuit diagram and a shopping list.
Thanks
Mick
-
How am I supposed to compete against that. :o :-* Amazing.
Please can you explain how you did the LEDs?
Yes, please.
-
They are right you know, it is a tidy job!
-
:-* neat work as before!
-
This is one of those builds you just keep coming back too.
It couldn't be further away in scale from my own musings, and for that alone its a pleasure.
Mark.
-
Well, thanks to you all!
I still look around in awe at what you chaps pull together, It's kind of hard to think people look up to the stuff I do.
Anyhoo, for Mick and Braz, and anyone else interested:
Here is the humble 3mm LED with a resistor.
(https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/368/32426801255_469445b8a2_k.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RprQhg)
A small bend in the legs and it is fitted into the engine cowl.
(https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/688/32426869865_f6f38eef2e_k.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RpsbFc)
I have stripped the negative legs down and soldered the positive legs together, also I attached the fly lead. With the soldering, I positioned the positive junction to fit into the body
(https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/450/32305855301_58331404d5_k.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RdKXgc)
I then soldered the negative leads and fly lead. The engines have been arranged and placed on the hull.
(https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/654/32426892455_9483f89575_k.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RpsioF)
I pulled the fly leads through the hull where the stand will go.
(https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/500/31615234833_ca78114dc3_k.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/QaJkRK)
And there you have it. The positives with resistors and insulation, the negatives currently bare and ready to be enclosed by the hull.
(https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/259/32426706315_daf4411352_k.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/Rprm4n)
Of course, before everything gets glued, you test the circuit. Mine was fine. ;)
-
That is a great tutorial, mate.

Awesome sauce mate.
Now, please, show us how you lit up the tie fighter
:D
-
Thanks Damas. :o :o :o Amazing. That would have driven me crazy.
-
Nifty LED work Kev - congrats 8)
-
Just watched Rogue 1 a second time so I'm really into this build.
-
Cheers for that Kev! That's some intricate work! :o How are you thinking of hiding the join in the wires between the engines? And how will you hide the light spillage on the engine cowls?
-
Oh darn! If I didn't know better I would have thought you were some sort of electrical engineer.
What a brilliant little contraption. I guess you need to go back an rewire yuor entire starwars colelctions now. lol
-
No, just.....no. :-X
Here is just a quick update showing the engine blocked in and I have started to fill out some of the basic shapes in the body and give it some identity.
Again, there is more planning and trials that don't make it that aren't shown, so there is progress! (https://flic.kr/p/Qeiyye)
-
and here are a couple more. The basic body is now complete and it has it's distinctive profile, now I have to start adding the details and refinements.
[url=https://flic.kr/p/R4fw6U](https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/258/32198263950_2e2dcb93b1_k.jpg)
At some point I'll give it a basic undercoat to check everything. (https://flic.kr/p/RrVMMe)
-
Bloody marvellous.
8)
-
I still can't believe how small it is, lovely.
-
Nice tidy work and so small :o :-*
LB
-
I never cease to be amazed how a bunch of tubes, rods and other little bits of plasticard can accumulate into an entirely believable machine. And so small too. :-*
-
Brilliant. :o 8) :-*
ROGUE WARS SPOILER ALERT!
Please, please don't slam it into a star destroyer!m :o
-
Super duper! :-*
-
That's just brilliant! I can see what Steve means and it's a real skill to do what you've done. That would look like a collection of off cuts trapped together by superglue if that was me.
-
Bloody marvellous.
8)
I agree - there has been some very special additions since the last post.
Tony

Very nice indeed.

Cheers to you all!
Here is the final update before painting.

And now the big reveal.......
...I have made two, one is a Star Wars Rebels and the other is from Rogue One.

That is F'ing stunning! Well done mate.

A beautiful pair of models.
Tony
-
Nice work!
-
Cheers to you all, contestants and voyeurs! ;D
With the quality of this years entries, I'll be happy with any ranking but I bet I'll be put next to Akula and knocked out in the first round! ;)
-
There's no shame in going out in the first round (I'm sure I will be lol). I don't recall ever seeing so many great entries.
-
There is individual foam brick crazy and then there is lighting up teeny tiny starships crazy.
Great job!
Please remain where you are some nice men will be around shortly to take you to your new padded room*.

He is always waiting patiently for his next 'friendly visit'.
Where do you think he gets his madcap ideas from?
When they do arrive please take the Bibblyflap option.
You may just find out where he has been 'hiding' lately.
;) ;D

Great job :-*

Thanks everyone!
Now I know that the ship is 'finished', but I couldn't stop fiddling....

I'll leave this for Akula to finish off. :D
-
Dum dum duuuuuummmmmm
-
That is a bit of alright!
-
That's really awesome :)
-
Are you and Akula going to join entries to make one of the final scenes from Rogue One? Just saying...... ::)
-
so, you ARE going to build a Star Destroyer!
8) 8)
-
Dude - it's the movies, it's probably just part of it to give the illusion it's one ;)
-
Awesome work mate...so an Imperial Star Destroyer in 1/1000 scale...that's 158cm in length, my kind of madness.
:D
Are you and Akula going to join entries to make one of the final scenes from Rogue One? Just saying...... ::)
I've got a bad feeling about this....
;)
-
Dude - it's the movies, it's probably just part of it to give the illusion it's one ;)
Don't give him excuses.
Just tell the mad, mad fool that we want a Star Destroyer.
And ALL of one, not just a sneaky glimpse of a portion!
;D ;D
-
I have to say, this is brilliant.
I've been playing catchup, and when I got to the post with the second corvette I thought it couldn't get better, but then you go and build (the side of, at least) a star destroyer!
Is there a ruleset you'll be using with these, or are they simply builds for the builds' own sake?
-
:o
-
Is there a ruleset you'll be using with these, or are they simply builds for the builds' own sake?
You mean people actually play games with their toys?
:o :o :o
I can't speak for Damas, but I haven't got as far as thinking about rules yet for my own Star Wars fleet project - the easy option would be to either play Armada, or use it as a starting point for a rule set. The bigger size of the models, and less models on a table, might lend itself to an element of role playing ....?
Either way, this is an awesome looking thread....almost tempted to start a 1/1000 project myself.
:)
-
I have to say, this is brilliant.
Is there a ruleset you'll be using with these, or are they simply builds for the builds' own sake?
Cheers, AWOL.
You mean people actually play games with their toys?
Yes, I wrote a basic ruleset about 4 years ago and we've played it over the last three BLAM gatherings as well as down my local club. It's a slowly evolving beast but it works enough for me.
Either way, this is an awesome looking thread....almost tempted to start a 1/1000 project myself.
Do eet, do eet!
Now, I couldn't help myself, I'm sorry.
Now this may look familiar...

and a comparison with my 1/1000 scale one.
Now over to Akula for the Star Destroyer. Gerron with it. ;D :D
-
Now, I couldn't help myself, I'm sorry.
You forgot to light the engines on that one. :D
-
You are a machine!

I am no SciFI gamer nor small scale gamer but I think this is my favorite build ( I may change my mind). Not so much because of the lavish special effects budget, but because the builds themselves are very clean, proportionate and convincing.
