At Warfare I bought a sprue each of Bolt Action US and Soviet infantry to build some Us and Soviet equipped infantry. I have a number of Wargames Factory sprues to supply M16s and AK47s.

The guns do look a bit large and some filling is still required.

Nice to see that they work well together. I was thinking of doing something similar for some 1950s-1980s imagination action. With the police and 2-3rd tear troops armed with WW2 surpluses and the front line regulars armed with modern for that era.

There are so many different sub periods to go with moderns.
I find I jump from one thing to another.
Don't really have enough painted to play a decent sized game.

Using the Empress Zu-23-2 supplied with the technical.

Hah, the Empress one comes with seat backs - Spectre's doesn't. :)

The gun's a bit small on that 1/48th chassis though. There is a 1/48th one out there, but I guess you use what you have.

If I was doing an airborne force I'd have one, then cover it in stowage and a few Red Star tank riders.

Thanks.

@Wymalla: not quite sure what I am doing with it, it could be for Twilight 2000 to provide some fire support for some UnderFire Russians or it could be for some militia for my imagi-nation.

That affects the stowage options.

I have seen some photographs of them in full bag lady mode - shopping trolley armour stuffed with bags of stuff.

Not quite sure if that would work for both periods.

Oh, and does anyone know when the blue chemical drums became common?

I could find a background on plastic drums, but nothing on when they came into use - other than post 1960.

https://www.bluebarrelsystems.com/blog/history-blue-plastic-barrel/

There's some international standard and naming conventions mentioned in that article, so I guess if you search those there might be some legislation which'll crop up. I'd guess 1970s onward would cover the initial lot, then maybe a bit later for things to become formal (no idea though).

Huh. I didn't know that the SAS were using that setup of dual NVGs, though I suppose those are becoming universal by this point. Heh, NVGs, a Red Dot and a Laser Sight may be a bit overkill though. ...Ah, especially if the later is perhaps a bit redundant with the NVGs, as it means that the enemy can see you. ;)

The Osprey Elite book on the SAS to 2017 has two photographs of SAS with four eyes NVG (pages 44 and 48) that looks like the Empress ones. They are different to the four in a row set on the Empress USMC Seals.
Title: Re: Ultravanillasmurf's Modern WIP - Empress SAS Night Assault - 15/02/2018
Post by: Wyrmalla on February 21, 2018, 10:55:52 AM
Someone on the Spectre Miniature's fan facebook page made the suggestio that NVGs are setup based on the soldier's role. If they're expected to be be close to the enemy/ in confined spaces then the two pair setup off the best peripheral vision. However if they're in a support role/ out in the open, the "traditional" setup are more practical.

It seems like an interesting way to better differenciate between guys armed with carbines, compared to rifles, etc. Well, I mean easier than actually looking at the model given how fiddly guns can be at that scale.

If they're NVGs go for the stereotypical green lenses like Sam Fisher. :)

...Or just black if you want to be boring and realistic. ;)

Whenever I see those dual NVGs I just picture the G22 guys from that game Alpha Protocol (that nobody played).

No idea on validity, but: https://tnvc.com/shop/anpvs-21-lpnvg/ (https://tnvc.com/shop/anpvs-21-lpnvg/)

The photographs on page 44 labels the kit as AN/PVS-21.

Those presumably have a role, but ah... Hmn, I guess you don't always want the optics to be active, though, and I may be misunderstanding that product's purpose ...that's why the NVGs can be taken off?  ::)

Taking the NVGs off takes time though - being able to simply look "though" the NVG image would be better if you're in a situation where you're moving through different light levels or wanting to using weapon sights rather than working off the IR laser from the PEQ box.

I suppose they're marketing them to those who are concerned about the seconds lost between flipping the goggles up and down. ...Or at least those who believe that to be a concern. I can see the practicality of course, but I'm not someone actually using them who can speak of how much a difference that makes.

Saying that, I can't see a clear spring in the mounts of modern NVGs. They look a bit more rigid, however it could be just that they've integrated the spring so it isn't damaged in the field. I'm just going by the similar systems which are used to give soldiers two sights setups on rifles (i.e. flipping between two different optics), which seems fairly quick.

I am sure others know better, but this set up resembles the Task Force Black/Task Force Knight photographs from the Elite 211 book on the SAS.

I do need to repaint the lenses, as they are the bottom pair and the pair just above the wearer's eyes.
In the above photograph, the bottom red lenses are lenses, the one above appears to be  solid.

Inspired by ChargeDogs's blog (here (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=97949.msg1355649#msg1355649)), I dug out the Evil Bear Medium Combat Support Drone.
A six wheel all terrain chassis supports a remote weapon mount equipped with a GPMG.

Nice additions dude. Been a while since I graced this thread. Love how the kit bashed infantry turned out.

The Crossover troops with the helmets look good as well. Are they the standard heads that come with the crossover minis?

These are Ballistic Heads straight out of the packet (with an MP5 added to the leader and removed the integral bases):

This is slightly off-topic, but the range is marketed at the Ultramodern end of "modern" conflict.

The Evil Bear British powered suit.

Digicam is a swine to paint. I based it on the plates from the Osprey book.

The Citadel Snot Womble base colour probably does not help, I did try Citadel Zandri Dust but that is too yellow. Humbrol Desert Tan might have been a better bet. Some additional dry brushing might lighten the colour.

I have just this morning added the camouflage to some more figures (after painting "Brenda's" boots).

Trying to make it visually different from other figures, such as modern British:

the tankograd books is good, but it is more for vehicles... the osprey... let's say it is not on par with Galeotti's work on the Russian Army. Once I show it to a friend and after a cursory reading she laughed a bit stating the information is jumbled... also she did not like the pictures a lot. I couldn't find much on Chinese modernisations of the Humvee. You look at American Humvees and they have all kinds of add on armour and turrets, though the Chinese stuff seems fairly bog standard - perhaps as the conflicts they're dispatched to are typically internal. I did find out that China's supplied a load of countries with Humvees, rather than the US though.

Oddly China doesn't seem to be a popular nation for modern games with manufacturers. Empress do a line, and an APC, but other than them they're fairly scarce. China seemed like the generic villain in "tomorrow's war" scenarios for a while, though its returned to Russia again nowadays. Which fits more with prior miniatures lines, where there was a few 28mm Cold War Soviet lines which complement modern miniatures.

Would Special Artizan Service Miniature's new Humvee things work for the Chinese? The Dagor and the other one? The Chinese seem to have vehicles which look similar to them in service already, and it may not be too much of a stretch to say that the Chinese stole those designs to use locally.

I think that might have been the idea behimd Empress'' kickstarter. it is a pity they did not do the Chinese old cheap and cheerful APC.

no worry, she is back in uniform now and has no time for me...  ;)  my other friend (who is a modeler too!) instead keep in touch and is always happy to answer questions, provided this is not breaching operational security...  (quite strict there).

Chinese Mengshi utility vehicle...  you do not see a lot of uparmoured vehicles because it is supposed to be just an utility vehicle. We can discuss aplenty on the wisdom of uparmouring  HMMWV while other vehicles should have been more appropriate...  end of the line the chinese Mengshi are not supposed to see front line combat.  Right now the vehicle that is gong to the centre stage is the ZBD-09 in its various version (as my second friends calls it the Chinese Stryker... as I call it... Stryker made right!).   Despite what Tanks Ency said it is not replacing tracked stuff but filling a gap and certainly it should be modeled in 28mm and 15mm  ASAP!!!! (we need to pester Butlers printed models!).  Right now very few units use 'cheap and cheerful APCs' at least ones equipped with the nice individual stuff.

One thing... I had a student (cousingof PLA friend number 2... and PLA herself, but much more keen on equipment than PLA friend number 1...) that complained a lot about the new rifle. She told me it is an hassle to reload. You basically need to stop looking at the target, and when you are prone it is even worse...  now if... 20 years ago you would have told me I would have made friend with PLA officers... and talked with them about rifles and armoured vehicles... I would not have believed it!  lol

Well I keep mentioning SASM all the time as the guy who runs it is a wargamer himself, and seemingly just makes what he thinks is cool and open to ideas of what to make next. Of course assuming there's enough of a market for; probably why he and similar companies do "Pre-orders" for certain things (which covers the cost of the manufacturing process, meaning that once they hit their target any further sales are all profit).

I must be seeing something different, but when people mention Butler's Printed Models I just can't see the quality - especially in comparison to other companies selling 3D printed models. SASM makes the print, then turns that print into a resin mould, which may indicate why their stuff is of better quality though. Their original vehicles using this process had some stepping, but their newest stuff like the Dagor don't appear to have any issues at all. I believe that Spectre Miniatures and a few other companies use the same technique.

It's just purely down to cost.  A resin master should be printed on a top end machine the layers are tiny and almost invisible but this costs a lot.  Butlers print on machines that produce meh stuff.  They are appropriately cheap though.

It does worry me that people are a lot more accepting of gash quality now and just excuse it as 3d printed so it's OK to be stripy.

That's the thing though. Butlers Printed Models isn't markedly cheaper than the competition. Their 1/48th stuff is in the £20 range. Looking at Empress /Spectre/ SASM their vehicles are similarly priced (though SASM's newer stuff is skewed by them including infantry). Where they do cost more its not by much, unless you're seriously penny pinching (and personally I'd fork out the extra money for that quality, as well otherwise we may as well be playing with paper craft stuff). Those are companies going through the resin cast process based on a single high quality print, rather than using a cheaper printer to create more prints. I guess Butler's Printed Models invested in a printer and don't have the cash to cover a better one (or if they did, don't want to have to redo their whole range to bring them in line with newer prints).

On the subject of 3d printimg, I noticed everyone was too polite to mentiom the print lines on the Evil Bear's Foxhound's rear doors.

I had assumed that Imprint 3d printed their vehicles and that continued with Empress.

I may be mistaken, but I believe Imprint models are not 3D printed, they're scratchbuilt then cast for resin production.

You are probably right, when I saw the T-90 back in 2011, it was so much better than the other stuff I had seen I assumed either 3d printing or magic (I had not seen Rich H's work here).

That might be why I am slightly disappointed by the HLBSCo vehicles (and do not start me on some very sloppy British moderns).

has anyone any experience of the new Blitzkrieg stuff?

I bought some of Blitzkrieg's 1/56th vehicles. Warlord's models of the same vehicles had better detail, with Blitzkrieg's seeming overly thick in areas. I'm keeping my eye out for when they eventually convert their T-55 into 1/48th (why they made it in 1/56th originally I've no idea), as Tank-Mania's is far too expensive for wargaming (that whole site seems more aimed at the 1/35th crowd). ...Not to mention the smaller details on those Tank-Mania kits being rather brittle (half the track links on that Acacia SPG I bought from them wound up broken, even with me being careful).

At the risk to sound harsh I would say it is personal opinion. I have several Butlers vehicles and I found them good. They have some issues but they are improving.  I am not attacking Rich H's talent, I admire his work, but adjectives as meh and gash quality aren't really appropriate for these vehicles. On the other hand I have refrained to criticize SASM vehicles several times, but just from pictures, some of them are completely off from their original.

But I have to admit that I have yet to see something so divisive in this hobby as 3D printing it appears to always stir a lot of strong emotions! Okay... I retract... PMT...  lol

Obviously it's my opinion.  Perhaps I am being unfair and they have improved?
When I looked and the ones I've seen IRL were pretty obviously printed on FDM machines with visible print lines all over and poor track definition.  For me, that put me off.

BTW feel free to criticise my work, without criticism things never improve.
(I don't work for SASM and don't do it for a living ;) )

I should have been clearer: the gash work was not aimed at Butlers but in general as more and more 3d printed stuff appears and print lines and poor detail becomes the norm - I've printed stuff and it's been better than I expected but not exactly quality.  As more printed stuff appears I worry that there is less incentive for companies to produce high quality models.

Just my opinion.

I remember someone (Captain Blood?) asking about their Matilda, I will have a look for the comments.

I asked about the modern stuff as it appears to have been designed with a 3d package.

I suspect they brought out the 1/56 to match their existing WW2 line and will do them again in 1/48.

From the renders, the Centurion looked okay (though the angle of the turret was a bit odd) but the IR searchlight on the Chieftain looked odd. It might be because I am used to seeing a thermal sight in that position.

The T55 and the T34/85 would be useful if they are any good.

SASM master all their own models I believe. Personally I feel that company gets a lot of undue hate these days. Their older models weren't of amazing quality (though yeah, miles better than Butler's), and that may have tainted people's opinion of them. I assume then that's led people not to follow their newer releases (like the ones I posted earlier here), as they seem on par with what Spectre's been releasing. Though the lack of metal pieces does lead to some parts being chunkier than they could be.

I'll need to pick up some of their newer bits and do a proper review some time, though even their Russian Falcatus which was released a good while ago seems pretty good to me (though I also have one of their Toyota jeeps, one of their first modern releases, and I can't see the issues people are talking about).

Thanks.

Up until 1994 they were made of wood, but the then Home Secretary was concerned the police might sharpen the ends to use as stakes... ^__^

Actually, that might make a good conversion.

Nice Copper but his truncheon should be Brown.

If the truncheon was wooden it would be a red/brown colour but if it was an older make, made from ebonite it would be black considerably heavier than the wooden ones and much harder. The truncheon went in the mid 90's and was replaced with an acrylic baton, either 22"or 24" long. This was then replaced by a friction lock baton known as the Asp.
The policeman is very well painted, but dressed in an old style tunic with a belt he would have had a light blue shirt under the jacket, which changed in most forces  to white by the late 1980's

Though a double barrelled shotgun and flechette ammunition is nothing to be scoffed at, some additional protection is required for "Brenda".

The inspiration was the more Police look rather than the paramilitary appearance of SCO19.

The base figure is a Crooked Dice female X-commando with a rifle. The figure uses a slotted base and I wanted to use a Renedra 25mm disc base, so I drilled a series of holes and connected them using a scalpel. The supplied head has a beret, and I wanted a more "police" look, so used the head from the Crooked Dice WPC Cathy Black figure, The base of the neck and the torso were drilled to take a piece of 1mm brass rod.
The head was fixed using a small ball of greenstuff pushed into the neck socket, any overflow being sculpted into a collar.

The rifle (based on an L1A1 SLR) looked a bit bare, so I added an under barrel laser/torch. I should have added a distinct sight as well.

Painted using the same process as the earlier Bobby.

Thanks.

The Crooked Dice Law Men (and Woman) figures are of a more American style and this is set on the streets of Britain.

The three protection officers will all be Crooked Dice X Commandos (and I might remember to remove the X logo on the shoulder of the others).

The security team will probably be Spectre Urban SAS (or my existing "four eyes" SAS).

Opposition will be Empress US of some variety with RU10 gas mask heads as deniable operators as part of the "wars and rumours of wars" prologue (I might use existing stocks of US or buy some specific ones).

I make progress slowly.

You're kind of limited for modern armed response units in the UK. Most of the stuff is geared more for the past few decades rather than the present. Though painting up some of the new Empress Germans in black and changing the heads could do to an extent, with them giving the impression of the officers, rather than being an exact match.

I believe that Spectre have said that they're interested in doing some modern armed response units. They didn't go into specifics, and they'd likely represent one particular country's police due to the variety of kit in use (though similarly, they may go for something more generic and leave it up to players to be bothered about consistency).

Still, it wouldn't be too difficult to scare up some figures that look "good enough", like for instance the one that you made there. Just a soldier type in a black uniform with extra smoke grenades (or even those gas masks that Crooked Dice do, though I doubt they're still in service. Hmn, Empress must have some modern Western gas masks for sale other than just those Russian ones -that'd again give the impression of them being British forces, rather than being exact - and well, who knows how that particular area's police force procured its equipment, its not like the rifles, etc,  that they use are fully standardised across the UK currently anyway).

Good ideas Wyrmalia.
Empress do USMC K-POT with gas masks.

Somewhere I have a "Valkyrie" zombie elimination team member using the Crooked Dice classic SAS gasmask on a female X-commando, for some reason I have not photographed it.

The recent Osprey Elite book on European CT teams shows the variation in equipment, as does visits to London (DPG in police gear with added heavy armour and MP5s standing next to SCO19 in more military gear with G36s, or BTP with LMT AR15 CQB).

The Crooked Dice helmets suit the X-COMMANDO bodies well.

Last year Empress brought out a range of Ultramodern Bundeswehr. This year they introduced the Puma IFV to go with it.

While the Puma was drying after a pre-assembly wash, I thought I should paint up at least one of the panzer grenadiers.

This is really a paint test, to see what the colours look like at this scale.

The colours used were:
Base: Vallejo German extra dark green
Camo:
Citadel Snotwomble Green plus Citadel Nurgling Green layer
Citadel Steel Legion Drab

I think the base coat could have done with being Field Grey with EDG etc splodges. I also think that Citadel Mournfang Brown might be better than Steel Legion Drab (though that is bordering on Australian colours).

Though on another thread, and might be considered a spoiler: though the leader of a  founder signatory of the Oceanic Alliance decided that he could see no advantage in honouring Aylands treaty obligations and ordered his forces to remain in place (though see 60th Royal Rifle Regiment), other members of the alliance did move in Blueland's defence. After the navies of Blueland and Wyeland secured the sea crossing, Zedland forces relieved Blueland forces at one of the ports, and their combined forces made a dash to the capital.

At a recent show I picked up two packs of resin "Jersey Barriers" from the stand of The Sleeping Dragon Hobby Shop.
https://www.sleepingdragonhobbyshop.co.uk/ (https://www.sleepingdragonhobbyshop.co.uk/)
They are not (at time of posting) on their web shop, but they have an email address (and a 'phone number) on the site.

Each pack contains four resin cast pieces from a 3D printed master. There are some obvious print lines and some artefacts, especially on the top surface. However it does provide them with some texture (more on that later).
They are much taller than Jersey Barriers (they are 20mm tall which is a metre plus at 28mm depending on your choice of scale).

After giving them a scrub, I sprayed the "visible" surfaces with Rustoleum Rust effect spray paint for some added texture before giving them an overall coat of Halfords Grey Primer. I then sprayed them from above with Halfords White Primer.

Half of each piece was then masked (you can see the artefacts on the top - they could be reinforcement).
And sprayed with Citadel Mephiston Red.

Once dry, they were extensively dry brushed with Citadel Terminatus Stone and washed with Citadel Nuln Oil.

They will provide suitable cover for infantry, even on slotted bases.

They will also provide cover for your vehicles.

But you will need to consider their placement if you do not want to provide cover for your enemies.

They are a nice addition to my scenery collection, and (at the time of purchase) notably cheaper than comparable barriers.

Seems odd to have such poor quality masters for such a simple shape?
3d print is not the answer to everything and, while in this case it’s not too terrible, a smooth finish would have been trivial to achieve.

I’d be tempted to cast them in grey plaster and chip them...

My suspicion is that this is a trial of the concept (they also had a range of MDF buildings which is also not currently on their site).

Ten minutes with some sandpaper would smooth them off before use as the master. As you say, it is a very simple shape (though possibly beyond my capability I will admit), and post print correction would be trivial, not like the crates.

Yes, it does perplex me why companies use 3D printed masters without tidying them up a bit. I assume they're having a third party handle the whole process or something, as the print lines and other defects would be obvious at a glance and yet simple to rectify. Yet they're such a consistent fault that there must be some reason beyond just wanting to put the product out ASAP.

Perhaps the large pieces of vehicles and these take the longest, so whatever third party is printing them is charging a lot and they can hardly pay for the test prints and a final print, along with any additional cleaning. ...But that would only make sense if the company also somehow could just take a scalpel, sandpaper and a bit of clay to the masters once they receive them.

Yup, confusing.

Edit: As a comparison Ainsty Castings set of 3 barriers is £4.50. Spectre do a more detailed set of 7 for £9.99. It may begin to matter when buying these in bulk. I'm sure other companies do them cheaper however. ...And they are a simple shape to replicate and cast up yourself to be honest (I'd be more inclined to buy a set of plastic barriers personally - which I believe TT Combat or another American company does. One of the ones in the PA Board's list).

That back door could have easily been sorted too.

The disappointing thing is while the barriers are cheap it would have taken 20 mins to fill/sand those masters and have an all round better product.

Problem is the reliance on 3d masters and not putting the time in the finess them.  Especially on flat surfaces like that.  A skim of filler or a scrape with a knife would have sorted that.
Better still print the doors seperately and flat then stick them on after (Or leave them off and allow an open back?

My M48 has taken a LOT of repeat prints to get right and I'm still sanding/finessing bits after.  I'll replace handrails with wire and so on to make sure they are as correct as I can get them sensibly.

Its that I know companies using 3D printed masters do clean up their casts. Whereas yes, other ones are print line riddled messes.

...Though similarly, when bring up casting defects with some communities they try and ignore them, or say they aren't a problem. So perhaps companies assume their customers just don't care. Weird. They annoy the hell of me when I see them.

Arggh! And that will be difficult to clean up for the customer.

At least with the Foxhound they are in the same plane as the surface, not diagonally across it (chosen to improve the print detail elsewhere at a guess).

Once I am back with a UVS email enabled device, I will drop them a line about them and see what they say.

At that price (and with my abilities) I am okay with them, it is just as you say, they could be so much better.

If they are print to order then you are stuck with print lines to a degree, there is no margin on 3d printed stuff to spend an hour finessing every print, but I’d adjust the print to avoid them on flat surfaces (Or split the model and provide separate back doors for example)

But if it’s 3d print then cast there is no excuse, why go to the trouble of making moulds of stuff that have such glaring problems?

(Better double check my M48 for print lines now…)

The new technologies mean that new players can enter the field, this does mean that sometimes they lack the experience of actually producing products suitable for the market. Sometimes you have to fall back on traditional technologies (your intent to add the accordion to the M48 being a suitable example) or smooth out a digital print with sandpaper and filler.

We have seen that with digital sculpted figures, some have been very bad because the sculptor lacks the required knowledge of anatomy of how material drapes. Sometimes they learn, sometimes they do not (have a look back at the Wargames Factory stuff).

I guess it’s the crossover from traditional model making to digital model making.

I could piss around for hours trying to make the canvas cover drape in CAD or I could just add some greenstuff/miliput and sculpt it in about 10 mins.  I’m not very good at sculpting but I should be able to make a canvas cover.

Working in one medium alone is very limiting.  While I’d love to be able to do it all digitally actually it’s the final form that matters not the medium by which it’s created.

So, after nearly six months, something new for my Modern WIP.

And it is rubbish. Bags of it.

Debris of War do a range of Urban scatter terrain, including Bin Bags (individually and in piles). I bought a pack at Colours 2019 but was pondering how to base them.

I decided to use the smaller pile on a 25mm base, the larger on a 40mm base. So that I could push them closer to walls, I used a razor saw to remove a piece from each base.

This allows them to be used in alleys and on streets.

Post by: Ultravanillasmurf on February 19, 2020, 06:37:09 PM
The V100 was used outside of Vietnam (and is a standard APC for Morrow Project teams).

I have painted this one for a drier climate (it may be used by some of the Crooked Dice Governor General's army).
It has Spectre smoke dischargers, small case (for the first aid kit) and jerry cans.

The decals are Warlord German tank numbers, the registration numbers and the first aid marker are from the Rubicon Jeep and the weight marker is from the Rubicon LRDG Chevy.

And here it is with the US Military Police one for Vietnam.

I suspect there might be another, this time fully loaded for The Morrow Project and Twilight 2000.

Law Enforcement Officers.

These are built with Empress US02 US Army bodies and Empress Russian RUS13 heads with visors.

The RUS13 heads represent Russian Special Forces helmets with ballistic armoured visors with view slits. As I was after slightly less armoured visors, I filed off the view slit, smoothing it down to represent  a clear visor.

There are a couple of definitions of a "Mall Ninja", one of which is wannabe with more money than sense.

Derek certainly fits that definition, he also makes Alice look like a sceptic.

My Gun-Fu is weak, I am guessing it is a HK 416 derived rifle (the mag looks too small for 7.62 ammo).

Title: Re: Ultravanillasmurf's Modern WIP - HLBSCo Spartan WIP 13/03/2021
Post by: Ultravanillasmurf on March 13, 2021, 05:10:47 PM
So Empress has released a re-worked version of the HLBSCo 1/48 scale Spartan APC. This has prompted me to dig out my 2019 purchase:
https://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2019/07/hlbsco-spartan-apc.html (https://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2019/07/hlbsco-spartan-apc.html)
The Empress re-work includes white metal detail parts such as hatches and tools, which will make assembly so much easier than the resin items on the HLBSCo version..

However back to the kit I have.

One of the things that has stopped me moving on with the kit is the track units. The Empress Scimitar has a one piece track unit in resin. The HLBSCo model has a white metal track unit (with extended axles on the idler and sprocket) with two loose road wheels and no fixing points for the road wheels.
I started by drilling 3mm diameter holes centred on the circular structures on the lower hull side. I should have measured the positions as the circular structures are not in the same location on both sides - I ended up having to hand "mill" the holes to make it fit on the second side.
The hull moulding is beautiful, though guide holes for the smoke dischargers would be nice)
There is still lots to do (glueing the splash board to the hull side is obvious), plus a decision on the period and the lighting arrangement (early with lights under the splash board, middle with lights on top of the splash board and three stowage boxes or late with lights under and a full width box). There will be some soft stowage as well.

This is just four pieces of it (there are another four walls in the set).

Empress US Army for scale.

Usable for most modern environments.

Standard painting method for buildings - Plastikote Rust Effect for texture, Halfords grey spray primer, Halfords black spray primer lightly dusted as an "anti-zenithal" and Citadel Corax White, Base washed with Citadel Agrax Earthshade and the walls with Citadel Nuln Oil.

And because Carlos expects it...

The gates use Slater's 7mm corrugated iron embossed plastic rather than the laser cut cardboard planks.

The gates are wide enough for the Empress V100...

It is large compared to the Empress M151 (I do need to find the Empress Hotchkiss M201 for comparison - and assembly).

It is of a similar size to the Crooked Dice Land Rover.

Pandyman Entertainment was a new name to me (and is subject to change), and at their stand at Salute I picked up their Threat Level: Emergency Response rules and four of their figures.

This figure is the "Unarmed Police Officer" (https://www.pandyman.co.uk/product-page/unarmed-police-officer-1 (https://www.pandyman.co.uk/product-page/unarmed-police-officer-1)).
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiaXWU5kLH2opyZGqWfoj2BufVTk2sYXv-tuFxyIswyUsGOCZAReakRXenhf7ysrdRruAXV5FJJh8Maro9An3xSMWTVF_hl_7stMBhhvOzG2shLkZJGRZvEo44GA5HFR_Pt6S5hkt46112tDWfoQJz54ULZmCqV1KySekx3jRHVFYUkUmJtxfgNmi4Slw=s500)
The description is the official one, but he is armed with a prominent Taser which I would classify as a weapon.

He is in front of a Crooked Dice Land Rover (a bit old for his equipment).

The figure is made from Photopolymer Resin, so I assume is a 3D print.
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhWMDqEU50pSGGqvIkvfaTOvIue_oldy_UnQyfUf293LxG9NHGvttMAvSu2wna7pL6abM6wZNeXQ_XjZ1JFzHJyfgdNlY9UPKPNS1iKU70-W5nbzUSHdJdZrqSXiqxe_J4h_Yr5hyV4HwHtPpNM-SjLxWrvMXfQW7Jj6Xn-0Ljf1qSQUA3QLjGEFW0Jew=s607)
There are no signs of layering, and though the details are a bit soft, I have seen worse on metal figures.

Scale wise, he matches up with Crooked Dice quite nicely.
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjDshmB5gB4PZdCJmUlX8R00hLanxuQ6Q9JJOtH1xHtFP3DewZIFE2t4rQa4qKSBpXngTOB6SzsEDXBhBP4n-p6v8TF60cGLv3cVaUD5aBsc6dKKdqMoFM1e_8aPAbTpc6TP_b-kXgH_xqy0lnSrLIQCFnyov1gLhRXXWdJ-Nyp5noPvVC5linMdIJLhg=s500)

And Empress Moderns.

Pandyman Entertainment? Here we go Looby Loo?

I must say that sculpt bears little resemblance to the original, which in all honesty, is a good thing, lest they end up with a court order prohibiting them from coming within 200 metres of schools, playgrounds or anywhere else that minors congregate.  ;)

At Salute, Renedra released their injection moulded 20 and 40 foot containers (plus barrels and pallets).

Scaled at 1/56, they are a bit smaller than the standard Empress scale of 1/50.
The doors are movable.

Ainsty (~1/62), Renedra (1/56), Unknown but either 1/48 or 1/50,  O Gauge (1/43)

Now I need to get some waterslide transfers for branding (watching the current series of  Fear TWD, some PADRE transfers would be cool).

Been there, done that.  Somewhere in the archives, I have a shot of Marines in a Humvee in Iraq using a container for cover in my "Bridge at Al Muf" scenarios I ran while I was active with Force and Force...  I wonder if I can find it....

Anvil have released a 3D printed pickup truck.
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXY-F9wopy5BcSdQ2zvsaCD6WYym6gHBtXX5_JvmInZHy6mamrcg3Yb7qEFVLoF8U_NOL_OkuYsX1dLfbd6TQwbTEsc4QiuE1LfB9zJySwcIunwtU73gMOEXlCW5loTnjzRx0oVdbUuFoA_kQ7987yQanlfaBrIXAbGhngpLx6aLx6bHNvfY2S8wiKteUG/s500/anvil-pickup-1.png)
There is no interior detail, however the cab is empty, the side windows are just printed solid so if you wanted a wreck you could just remove the windows, you will need to put in a floor. The versions with open windows fits the two seats in from below.

The resin seems to paint up well, there was some layering on the front window and across the side window (it looks like it is printed at an angle, nose down). This was smoothed with sand paper.

It is about the same size as the Spectre Technical, but is bigger than the Crooked Dice (and the Empress) Land Rovers.

My only current criticism is the ride height, the vehicle must be carrying a lot of weight.

Looks good. You're right about the ride height. It begs to be loaded up with stores or oversized weaponry. You're other option is to say it's one of those low-riders, with tricked out suspension, so favoured in East Los Angeles.
