That would be my fault as I haven't put a mold on her just yet. :(

How do these scale with Hinterland Miniatures' stuff?
Title: Re: (Kickstarter) Venus 1888 is now live...

Ever since I first laid eyes on these brilliant figures, I really looked forward to backing this Kickstarter. They are superb! Very characterful. :-* Great period flavor! But now that the Kickstarter is live. I'm not so sure I can afford to join it.
I have a large collection of Hinterland figures, and they are just as nice and sometimes half the price.
I am a dyed in the wool TSATF fan and collect units of twelve mounted and twenty foot. Unless there are some amazing goal rewards that bring the price per figure down considerably, I must regretfully pass. :'(

I wish you the best of luck as these figures really should see production.

Hi Froggy,

I will post an image tomorrow after work regarding scale but Hinterland is smaller by about 3mm I believe.

 Hi Folks,

This is a comparison between the current range with Foundry on the left and Hinterland on the right. If you asked me honestly if they played well together I would say Hinterland was smallish and Foundry a perfect match.

Love the 'mounted' figures (that doesn't sound right  :))...but at US$28 for two then add shipping is way out of my price range per figure...

So Have I misunderstood the pricing from TMP...

"The Range was intentionally broken down into packs of basically equal value. A Pack is five infantry, two cavalry or the command pack which is actually three foot PLUS the general. There is also the gun crew of four foot and the gun itself. Every three packs you buy actually knocks one dollar off the price of all the packs you buy, so three packs would actually cost twenty seven dollars each instead of twenty eight."

Lovely miniatures!

The concepts and execution are solid with very nice sculpts.

Wishing you luck with your Kickstarter.

Love VSF stuff and will have to think this one over carefully.

$250 is a big chunk of change to save $15. Just saying.

$250 is a big chunk of change to save $15. Just saying.

To be fair if you purchased 10 packs at $25 ($250) instead of $28 dollars you would save $30 and not $15. Your also right it's time to sweeten the pot a little..

I am going to have six stretch goals at this time but since the art isn't ready here is a brief outline.

A mechanical mule for  the artillery to include stacked rifles and stacked packs. Randomly shell your opponents in style! Almost done as we type!

Chatty Cathy, A Victorian style Reporter based loosely off of the Famous Nelly Bly.

Curious Kate, A Victorian Photographer with her Kodak camera trying to get a snap of the Dinosaurs on Venus before they snap her.

Gurty Gun, An American Gunslinger from Toledo who doesn't plan to take any guff from anybody. Some say she smokes!

Poor Penny, A London orphan and the first child stowaway to another planet! Her plucky stories of survival in the orphanage will leave you brimming with overconfidence, which can be dangerous on Venus with dinosaurs and cannibals running around.

Retro Ray guns, Replace the slap with a ZAPP! The infantry pieces are sculpted with their hands and rifles as a separate piece which plug in nicely. This add one will convert the Ladies to a more modern feel for the more popular Sci-fi games.

Dave Soderquist the lead Sculptor for this campaign has committed to these and their concepts are complete. I see for every one hundred dollars donated one will be free with the others being available as add-ons.

I also plan some relief on postage and handling based on the size of the order. My first thoughts are to simply split postage after 100 dollars or four packs with the backer. Crowdfunding campaigns have to be careful of postage costs with the chunk Kickstarter grabs but in the end my goal is to make these as affordable as I can.

Thanks again for the awesome support, these minis actually made it into Wargames Illustrated scout page!!

I assume you will have some sort of minimum buy to get the stretch goals.

They could also be add-ons at a reduced price given you plunk down so much in your pledge.

Or both.

Any general feeling of how you plan to do this?

Hi Ray,

For every hundred dollars or four packs you will get one of the stretch goals for free. All stretch goals will also be available as add-ons.

Congratulations on the kickstarter going live - love the figures and was really looking forward to getting involved - but with the figures over £4 each and the free add on being only one figure if you spend over £80 - then sadly I will have to give it a miss :'(
Hopefully the range will continue to grow.

Love the designs but $28 seems a little steep for 5 infantry models. May have to wait and maybe buy a few later once the kickstarter has run its course. Seems like the goal has been reached anyway-which is great. Very happy to see this range do well :)

I was going to pledge anyway, but now I see it is already funded and my $200+ will get me two stretch goals into the bargain!
My only worry is that I will get hit for customs being in the UK.

Thanks for your support. I also updated shipping to take care of 50% of the cost for folks spending 100 dollars or more, because it gives me the wiggle room to do so. There are some real fun stretch goals coming and I am sure you will be amused..

You welcome and it has been an expensive pleasure getting the range going. The clockwork mule for the artillery is probably one of the coolest pieces of the range and is just beautiful. Images should be this week.

Well... you know what they say about how you get a million dollars in the miniatures business... You start with 2 million dollars...  ;)

If it's anything close to how the horses came out it should make a pretty big splash.

EU FRIENDLY

So no customs or other tax worries, it'll be shipped from me in Wales, so you are free to go crazy with your pledges ;-)

Congratulations for reaching target and I hope you get even more support to achieve some of the extras.

From lessons and observations from other KS projects, communication on the KS page is crucial.

I note you've taken time to provide replies on the Comments posted up - well done, so many creators stall on that. However, don't forget your Updates section too - it's especially important as sometimes, this is an area that non-backers can access to check up on progress, and putting up a few messages really helps - even if it's only one per week. It means visitors to the project page still see some impetus, and that can convince some of them to jump on-board in the latter stages as the project reaches the deadline.

Great to see the success. My hope is that at some later date, these will be available for normal retail, but best wishes regardless  :)

Thanks for the well wishes and the advice.. It was funny that I planed a huge update several days ago with images as well and Kickstarter had this wierd problem where you could not upload images...Some other sites were experiencing it as well. Hopefully it is working today...

Fellow beast,

I'm fairly certain the individual packs are divided into foot, cavalry, and artillery. I'll admit the wording is not completely clear, but I'm used to dealing with Star Fleet Battle players...  lol

Okay, so I filled out my survey for what I wanted and it stated that for every $100 pledged you get a free add-on for $10 or less.

That means that all the add-ons including the butler and the mule are available to choose from.

Where's my order, Joe!  ;)

Got my miniatures yesterday and am very pleased with the quality.

The steam butler, English General Lady Grey and the steam horses steal the show.

Overall, I'm quite happy with the miniatures and would like to thank Annie from Bad Squiddo Games for making this EU friendly.

As for Joe, I wish you good luck in the future. I think a bit more communication would have been nice, especially responding to folks questions on the KS updates, but hell, he delivered, so I'm happy.

Hi Ray,

Yes, you are right. Communication is important and as I look back it certainly be improved upon. I think some times between the multiple forums, working with the last minute details with sculptors and casters, and in fact wanting to actually say something substantial I can unintentionally waffle a bit.

Thanks for the kind words about the miniatures. People really seem to like them. I agree the Butler and Lady Grey are pretty cool.

The short answer is yes..I will weigh them up again and release them in the shop Wednesday.

A lot of the 1888 stuff is still being restocked for a shop release but I have plenty of Terror Buzzards..

Just looked at the website.  What great miniatures.  I am kind of on the fence about buying the ladies however.  They look awfully neat and prim for a place as hot steamy and dirty as I envision Venus.
