No idea where to post these as I'm not working with any particular rule-set in mind. The Iron Chicken prior to re-paint and weathering with a couple of 28mm minis (also WIPs!) for comparison
GDonk
-
and the comparison . . . .
-
Transport - start with one of these . .
-
or rather one that looks more like this . .
-
and start adding stuff
-
only seem to be able to put up one photo at a time . . . ah - got it sorted, first time for everything!
-
with a mini or two - still all WiP
-
Ooooo, that's fun. Great job!
-
GDonk, great work on that yellow camper! And the Iron Chicken is... just... INSANE! (in the better way, of course!) :o :-*
-
Great work on that camper van, it is going to be lovely when you have finished it.
:-* :-*
And, I have to ask: Where is that Iron Chicken from?
It is so bonkers that I want one.
Dunno what for, I just do!
:D

Thank you all for your very kind words - having lurked around this forum for a goodly while it's nice to share my daft ideas with others and hopefully this will encourage me to move some of my many WiPs to the finished stage.
Mason - The Iron Chicken is a kids toy from the current Clangers (TV show) range - I got this one from Amazon UK but have seen them in the local toy shop as well.
Cheers all

Hi Mason, I should probably mention that the Iron Chicken is made of a fairly soft plastic - similar to WOTC minis
GDonk :) :)

Thank you, GDonk, much appreciated.
I am going to see if I can track one down at a cheap price.
I have a plan for the thing now.

Excellent - please keep me posted on your plan for it. Cheers, GDonk

Lacking a time machine, Excalibur have some nice old-school looking SF minis:

Also Moonraker Miniatures - amazing line with great late 80s/early 90s Copplestone sculpts (some are former EM-4 minis) and reasonably priced:

EDIT> Moonraker's SpaceLords minis are awesome and better than GW RT, IMHO!

like the way you think ;) ;)
Funnily enough a time machine is something I need to link the very disparate themes of my mini-meanderings .. . I'm thinking VSF adventurers (probably my greatest interest) travelling to post apocalyptic future via weird war interlude - with a bit of just about everything else thrown in in between. One day, one day . . . . .

GDonk, it's called Multiverse! Have joy and wonder in your travels! ;)

Wow - a word for it . . . outside of my head - that means other people have thoughts a bit like mine - scary o_o ;) ;)

Not posted for over 120 days eh - time flies when you're as completely unfocused as me . . I have noticed that in that time the price of Iron Chickens as gone thru' the (coop) roof - rarer than hen's teeth now, apparently, and 5 times as expensive. Anyway, 'cos I never finish anything, the Iron Chicken is still w.i.p and now has some extra w.i.p bits to go with it - based on these, obviously . . .
-
lol lol
Love the Iron Chicken eggs!
:-* :-*
-
Cheers Mason, the ideas are there it's the skills in execution and completion that are sadly lacking ;) ;) More lack of progress on w.i.p's shortly . . . with some accompanying half-baked narrative to go with them! GDonk
-
Unfortunately, the scrappers former transport, a half completed camper van only managed to make it back to the scrappers base before itself being consigned to the heap. Fortunately they managed to pick-up a half completed pick-up (whoops, bit tortious that) for their daily run around, allowing their gourmet cook to forage for food and other general supplies he might , literally, stumble upon.
-
The sun came out so I took "Big Bird" (WiP . . . . ) out and gave her spray of lovely Halfords primer.
-
whoops
-
and I thought I'd see how she looks with some of my now quite large collection of McDonald's Hummers. There are 8 variants (or not so variant, depending on your view). These are just a couple. The military ones are cool but I have to say that I'm rather fond of the Tallahassee/Columbus ride lookalike. Obviously they all need a re-paint and weathering (ah, WiP . . . . .) The dog was just passing . .
You may be wondering what any of this has to do with PA - I do too, sometimes.
-
I thought I'd do something with some bits from some sort of small rodent habitat system I found in a charity shop - it came in a fetching transparent green
-
and also with one of those GW armourwhatchamacallit container kits
-
add another bit
-
and when I'm done I can stick it on the end of this . .. Taking inspiration (stealing the idea) from Eilif's fantastic conversion of the Indiana Jones Jungle Cutter toy, I got hold of one myself and hacked things off and stuck things on. I think I stopped in time - I wanted interest but with plenty of playable spaces. Obviously its not fully painted yet. I'm also planning more optional add-on units - different feed system, a couple of different roof structures for the control cabin area, some overhead walkways, a grab type crane for loading etc.
-
Now I've placed the feed system and the other end (can't think of a suitable word for it that doesn't involve "discharge" or worse and generally suggest something unpleasant). Am working on some options for the operating cabin roof - will probably do 2 or 3 different versions which can be interchanged. I did make one out of the original Jungle Cutter crew cable cabin roof but not happy with it. Watch this space (or not as the mood takes you). GDonk
-
few more shots of it placed together
-
Yet more, including a pile of old cogs that need crushing down, some steps that can be moved around different parts of the machinery and a roof for the feed conveyor - 'cos you don't want your rusting bits getting wet before they're crushed. GDonk
-
Some imaginative use of various toys and kits.
8)
I shall be watching as I have been given a few of those containers myself, which I shall be using in other ways, but taking note of your uses too for future reference.
:D ;)
-
Cheers Mason
Attracted by the sounds of grinding metal and dripping oil, the Iron Chicken is currently building her nest, Eggs are on the way. GDonk
-
Have been looking at combining all my other meandering with a bit of Mad Maximillian conversion and, amongst other things, came up with this, from a Lesney Models of Yesteryear diecast (I obviously couldn't get just one so I now have more Bugatti's than Bugatti), some bits of Ork half track thing and some skis from a 1/48 aircraft kit. Hope you like the concept, even if the execution is to my usual half baked standard. GDonk
-
Have even managed to get it pretty much painted up. Just need to decide on accessories (oh, decisions, decisions), do some weathering etc and pop in one of Eureka Nic's wonderful drivers - should be fully completed in another year or so . . . . . . Cheers, GDonk
-
Now I like that.
Simple and clean. But above all plausible. That's what separates a seasoned conversion from a kit bash. When you know the parts list and only see the whole concept. Not the list.
Mark
-
Many thanks for those kind words Mark, I love your work. I think the inspiration came from half remembered images from one of those Terry Thomas/Tony Curtis films like the Great Race or Monte Carlo or Bust although I haven't watched either in decades. All the best, Joe
-
That's a lovely piece of work. Insane, and yet completely believable!
-
Nice work on all of the models.
The one jumping out at me though, is the Planes not-C-119. I've been ogling that particular toy for some time now, as it's just the perfect transport plane to go with 28mm miniatures. I have no (current ::) ) project in which I could actually use it, but when has that ever stopped a hobbyist eh? ;)
Good to see I'm not the only one with designs on that toy though.
I was planning on making the roof over the cargo hold on mine removable (and stuck on with magnets), so I can have better access to the inside and potentially move miniatures around in there too.
What paint scheme are you planning? I might go for a completely aluminum one, with some minimal markings on mine...
-
Hi Daeothar
Thanks for that, I appreciate the comments.
The Plane toy is very much another of my many WiPs.
It does sit quite nicely with 28mm minis.
I'm toying ('cuse the pun) with a similar idea to that you mention. A bit ConAir perhaps (I know that was a C123 with fuselage gear etc, but poetic licence and all that . . ) but with as you say, minimal markings to allow multiple applications. We'll see (eventually).
It only really got a showing when it did because the weather at the time was being unseasonably co-operative for a rattle tin prime/undercoat.
All the best, GDonk
-
That Bugatti looks the nuts!
:-* :-*
I am certainly stealing that one in the future.
:D ;D ;)
-
Cheers Mason, very kind of you to say so.
Glad you like it and the idea. All the best, GDonk
-
Nice bits n bobs GDonk. I admire hobbyists who use cheap materials and toys with a little effort to make something great. The flying box car will be great. I bought a 1:72 kit of one to fiddle with myself. It's a good pulp/pa transport plane that's not too big.
Good work!

Thank you Mac, I'm absolutely in awe of your stuff so that really gives me a boost.

another 6 months + pass by. Latest half-bothered effort - some poor photos of a partly completed mating of a Disney Miss Fritter school bus body with a Solido m3 halftrack chassis. Love toys, cheap & cheerful.
