Title: Email notifications
Post by: beefcake on March 14, 2017, 04:54:30 AM
Usually when I get  PM in my message box here I get an email saying I have a waiting PM. I've recently had to PM's in 2 days and haven't received any notification emails. I checked my preferences and they are set to "Always" Anyone else having this issue? (Nope, not in my junk box either)

I'm also having the same issue and just prior to getting no notifications I got a number of notifications where the text of the message was missing.

its up to your Hotmail email address, guys. Actually all Hotmail email adresses are affected.

For whatever reason, all the emails sent to Hotmail accounts by forum are currently blocked. Guess they think we're spamming or something like that. No idea what to do against that, probably need to talk to my LAF server provider first. Will definitely take some time. In the meantime you could try to talk to Hotmail or consider to change your email address in user profile to another not-Hotmail one.

Sorry the trouble caused.

No worries. Not a real issue as we can still see that we have messages but I could see it being annoying for people that don't frequent often that are expecting contact. I'll see if hotmail have any answer though. Thanks for the response.

Any fix for this yet? It's quite annoying when I'm out & about  :(
Title: Re: Email notifications
Post by: Prof.Witchheimer on April 04, 2017, 07:46:29 PM
Nope. I can't fix that, we don't do anything wrong, we just send emails. Hotmail is to blame, no idea what kind of SPAM policy they have but they seemingly think we're spamming, so please talk to them, report the issue, probably they would change that. Or use another email address for LAF.

Ok, thanks.

I'll send Hotmail a query.

This is the reply I received, I'm not sure how helpful it will be but I'l give it a go:

NOTE: Please disregard the email notification that instructs you to go to OAS (Online Assisted Support) website. For your convenience, we encourage you to communicate with us through this email.
Hi,
Welcome to Outlook.com Support. My name is Feverlyn and I am here to assist you today.
I understand that you are have stopped receiving email notification from a specific forum. This is not the experience we want you to have. Let me help you find a solution to this.
We thank you for your time letting us know that you have already contacted the forum administrators about this issue. If they are not getting any bounce message or error upon sending the email notification to you. I would like to confirm if you have already tried the following troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue:
• Add forum@leadadventureforum.com to your safe senders list. You should receive any emails from the specific sender's email address or domain if it's added here. I have prepared steps for you just in case you have not tried it yet:
1. On the Outlook Mail navigation bar at https://outlook.live.com/owa, select the gear icon, then Options.
2. Click Mail > Junk email > Safe senders
3. In the Enter a sender or domain here box, enter the sender's email address and then choose Add or the plus sign (+) icon, then hit Save.
• Create a rule to receive and move emails from forum@leadadventureforum.com to your Inbox. Here are the steps that you can follow:
1. On the Outlook Mail navigation bar at https://outlook.live.com/owa, select the gear icon, then Options.
2. Click Mail > Automatic processing > Inbox sweep rules
3. Select Add or the plus (+) sign icon under Inbox rules
4. Type a name for the rule in the Name box and then select a condition and action from their respective drop- down lists.
• You have mentioned that others are also having this issue. Have you tried using other Microsoft account to check if it will also receive emails from the specific sender?
If the issue persists, please tell us when did you notice that you are no longer receiving emails from the sender.
We will be waiting to your response.
Regards,
Feverlyn

NOTE:  We’ll now be assisting you directly via email for your convenience. For us to answer your inquiries as quick as possible, just reply directly to this email.

Hello,

We appreciate the you have reached out to Outlook.com Support. I'm Aurelee and its my pleasure to assist you today.

According to your post, you are no longer able to receive email notifications from the site  leadadventureforum.com . Let us work together to sort this out.

Just to verify, how are you accessing your emails? Are you using a web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer), a mail application (e.g. Outlook app) or a mail client (e.g. Windows Live Mail)?

First thing we need to do is to log in to https://outlook.com via web browser, and check if you are able to receive emails from there. You may also try to check other folders that you have, as the emails from  the said website may have been redirected to another folder, instead of your Inbox.

You may also try to check on your account if there has been filters or email rules set on it, which can possibly delete or block the incoming emails from the said site.  Kindly refer to the link below for further guidance.

I didn't receive an email someone sent me
https://support.office.com/en-us/article/I-didn-t-receive-an-email-someone-sent-me-d39e3341-8d79-4bf1-b3c7-ded602233642?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US&ocmsassetID=d39e3341-8d79-4bf1-b3c7-ded602233642

Do let us know how this turned out for you.

We look forward to your next reply.

Yours sincerely,
 Aurelee

I received a substantially identical reply, including the advice to add the forum email to the safe senders list; I've done this, but (you guessed it) no emails have started to arrive yet.

There was also a question:

Can you confirm to us if the forum@leadadventureforum.com is receiving a bounce message when sending email to your account?

(sorry, couldn't work out how to put this in a quote box)

Perhaps the Prof could confirm that Hotmail is sending bounce messages? I'm guessing it is, which is how you know it's blocking emails, but thought I should check before getting back to them.

Just had my 3rd email from theHelpdesk, none of which were very helpful.  forum@leadadventureforum.com is already on my safe sender list.  They just keep asking the same questions   >:(

PM's still not working. I'm going to try the last option from my email later on tonight after my kids have stopped pestering me about their intense hunger. Fair enough it is almost dinner time.

Last time it worked for me was:
28 February 2017, 11:14:22   Re: (No subject)

Then it didn't work:
13 March 2017, 11:30:57   (No subject)

Anyone else have dates inside this range?
Title: Re: Email notifications

Last email I received was on 10th March.

I'll see if I can work out when the next one should have arrived, but it was probably the following day or so.

Yes, we do get bounce messages like i've removed IP- and email adresse of the user:

"This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

host mx3.hotmail.com [...]: 550 ....... (....) Unfortunately, messages from .... weren't sent. Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list.

Maybe you can ask them to remove us from their block list.

Somehow I find this enormously amusing, given that Hotmail has been on pretty much any blacklist for more than a decade.  lol

If you haven't seen this before, it might have some useful info on the block list (a code after the 550 tells you which list, etc)

I've just sent an email saying that the options didn't work and gave some dates of when emails were and weren't working. I also asked nicely if they could unblock this. Fingers crossed.

Thanks, Prof. I've sent them details of the bounce messages and asked them to take you off the block list.

They go on to say:

In addition, once they are receiving bounce messages whenever they sent an email to you, please take note that Microsoft has put in place various policies to protect our users from junk and phishing emails. We also understand that legitimate email senders should not be negatively affected.  What you need to do now is to contact your Domain administrator to get in touch with Outlook.com Sender Support and fill-out the form on this link.

https://support.live.com/eform.aspx?productKey=edfsmsbl3&ct=eformts&wa

Kindly also take note that this service is established to help senders improve their deliverability capability to all Outlook.com users and manage their sending reputation. If in case, you have just recently contacted the EDFS team and haven't received any response from them, you may try to submit a new SR on the provided E-form.

To learn more about Microsoft Policy, please refer on the link of the article provided below. Also, please click on “Email I send is being blocked or junked by Outlook.com”.

http://mail.live.com/mail/postmaster.aspx

Not sure if this is of any use but here it is just in case.

Thanks again for taking the time to look into this. I'm sure you have many other more interesting ways of spending your time...

Hotmail are asking what bounce message the forum is receiving when the emails don't go through.

Any chance of an example?

Hello,
Thank you for the information. Based on your message, it seems like lead-adventure is having trouble sending an email to you for it only bounces back. For us to be able to further investigate the issue, we'd like to request for the complete message source of the bounce message that they're getting.
We will be waiting for your reply.
Thanks,

What link? The only link in the bounce email is to the page with a list of errors. Or did they provide another link?

This just started happening to me as well. Running Gmail on Firefox.

What is the world coming to? I lost all notifications from The Guild about two years back and now this creeping "security cancer" has begun to impact my beloved LAF...

The Prof will put in a more detailed update on the situation as soon as time permits - apparently, we were blacklisted by Microsoft, due - apparently - to the amount of mails going out to Microsoft-operated mail services.

It could help if members reduced the notifications sent out to the necessary minimum, e.g. by deactivating thread subscriptions. I know it is an unsatisfactory solution, and we will take steps on our side as well, but it might be the most effective way to avoid future blacklisting.
Title: Re: Email notifications
Post by: Prof.Witchheimer on April 12, 2017, 07:35:08 PM
Well, I've contacted them and the reply from their support is "Our investigation has determined that the above IP(s) qualify for conditional mitigation. These IP(s) have been unblocked, but may be subject to low daily email limits until they have established a good reputation."

There is lot of emails being sent by LAF daily, PMs, thread notifications, newsletters. I don't undertstand why they just block a domain without checking the content or talking to the owner but they did. Let's hope it's over. If you stop to receive emails again, let us know.
Title: Re: Email notifications
Post by: beefcake on April 12, 2017, 07:59:53 PM
Yes it is strange. I would have thought they would only look into these domains if they received complaints about it. For a company like Microsoft I'm sure writing code for that would be a simple matter.
Thanks prof for getting this sorted.

Seems this issue is occurring again with me. Likely Outlook does not like the new forum address like it did previously. Anyone else not re=ceiving inbox notifications in their emails even though they have the box set to "always" for receiving them?

(I've turned on popups regardless as I'm on here pretty much everyday)

Nope. Not that. But thanks :)
Title: Re: Email notifications
Post by: Severian on March 15, 2018, 09:21:26 AM
After the changeover, my notifications kept ending up in junk mail. Only when I added the new address to "safe senders" did this stop happening; wasn't enough to tell Outlook one email wasn't junk to get it to recognise that others from the same address weren't junk either. But since I added it to the safe senders list it seems to have been fine.

Not sure if this is any help to you, but just in case...
