Oohh I'm curious how this will work out!
-
With Dark Sword miniatures...
-
ZOINKS! :o :o :o
-
Very interesting!!!! :)
-
Sounds like I need this! ;)
-
Note that it says "based on the beloved novels", so you probably won't get the iconic characters from the TV show, but rather their own interpretations.

Good! ;)

Depends on the scale they are using for the figures . I probably won't swop my already finished figures for theses new ones. I think not really useful for kit bashing either as these are single piece figures?!

Well, it says "pre-assembled miniatures" so that probably means multi-part and glued together at the factory, like in many boardgames.
-
Great news, will certainly pick up the starter ( at the very least ;) )...
-
Lord help me... well I'll wait and see how he miniatures and rules look.

I am also very glad that this game will be based on the books - want The Strong Belwas and other heroes that the TV show skiped. ;)

Cautiously excited myself.
If the info out in the wild is correct, the Kickstarter will just be for Starks and Lannisters. Everything else will be retail release.
Some pictures from the Dakka thread:
-
The figures look good in the above pictures.Worth watching for sure.
-
The figures look really good, but I don't like the ultra deep relief of the embossed heraldry on the shields :?

Not sure I'm a fan of that either. Luckily, that will be one of the easiest things to change.

Me three. File under "Taking the joke too far."
Still, there's gonna be some good stuff to pluck from the mix, if the scale is in the ballpark.
-
So will this be a Blood Rage style Kickstarter do we suppose? Or a straight to market regular retail offering?

Both.
KS for the Stark vs Lannister starter set, Retail releases after that.

I am curious about the KS... I am sure this one will raise boatloads of cash, so they are bound to 'unlock' all kinds of stuff, no?
-
I'm definitely interested, but a bit worried about the scale of the miniatures.
Dark Swords Ice and Fire miniatures are 32mm, but these models look nothing like them. Are CMON games usually 28mm or 32mm?

I think it's anyone's guess at this point. But there's a business logic for each scale.

Interesting video and description of game play up on BGG. Look at the scale of these minis relative to the speakers hands and tell me what you think. Granted it's Jaime and the Mountain, but my eye says 32mm. But I suck at estimating size, volume, distance, etc. Not my superpower.

90 figures in the starter box!!
Second starter directly to retail!

While somewhat intriguing I don't think I see anything that stands out...I like some of the SOIF projects here better using random historical miniatures. Perhaps the game will be outstanding, but from a miniatures standpoint I'm not sure I see too much to get excited about. It is unfortunate that these'll probably be out of scale with the Perry's etc.

Look pretty good to me, better than most stuff available even if they are one piece. Considering they are "board game" figures, they are superb.
-
Agree with Nord, compared to most other boardgame or miniature game miniatures they look pretty good. The game mechanics are a bit vague at this point, but with about 100 models in the box I'm thinking there should be enough models to play any of the other modded rulesets out there if they turn out to be less than impressive.
-
Lots of great information, but I'd still really really like to know what scale the models are.
Using the models with other rules is a great idea and they sure look gorgeous, but if the models are heroic 32mm that'll make GW Chaos Warriors look puny, they become a lot less attractive (at least to me).
-
Agreed, but looking at the seize of the box and the number of miniatures, I'd wager they can only fit so many models if they keep them within a reasonable scale. Although, Dark Sword already have a huge range of 32mm's. I'm waiting for some scale pics as well!
-
Some really nice looking miniatures shown so far.

Looking forward to this kickstarter. Never been disappointed by CMON, excellent quality products.

Thanks for the link, Admiral.

Thanks for the link. The miniatures look absolutely like 32mm's in the video. Not that I mind, but they won't be compatible to, say, perry true 28's, which is a shame for most people who already have armies.
-
So just another skirmish scale rules, GW buckets o dice derivative. Yawn.

I gotta say the main things putting me off it is the idea of it using massed battle mechanics with so few troops - ie units of 12 infantry in ranks. Seems unattractive to me. If you're gonna go for massed battle with ranked units, they gotta be BIG! Or just stick with skirmish, either open order units or individual models. This is a weird half-way thing I don't like.

I get why CMON is developing this game, it's a popular IP and the design direction is meant to appeal to board gamers who want to try out a miniatures game (much like FFG and their Rune Wars game) but I feel that for experienced miniatures war gamers it might lack something.
What I like about the idea of gaming out GoT (or ASoIF for the book purists) is how easy it is to do with most mass battle/skirmish medieval rule sets. Martin, despite writing a fantasy series has done quite a bit to remove most fantasy elements. The battles as written don't have epic, un-killable heroes riding around on huge war beasts (unless you want to play out the early Targaryen conquests) and there are no wizards casting fire bolts down on the heads of the opposing side. You can easily play out most GoT games using Lion Rampant or Sword and Spear etc.
As for the minis they look a little over designed to me. I'd much rather add GoT appropriate heraldry to a box of Perry's then work with the sculpted on iconography CMON has added to these figs.

Sorry for the threadomancy but I just stumbled over this on CMON.
My thoughts exactly, Richard.
Does anyone know *what* kind of plastic or resin, exactly, they are made from? Makes a huge difference in regards to durability and paintability.

Have been following this Kickstarter closely (and invested).
Figures:
Positives: using book based characters and "look" rather than HBO version.
Negative: to much fantasy and oversized armor. Very large so will not work with other lines.
Rules:
Positive: well written and illustrated.
Negatives: very board gamey too many special powers and worst of all "alternative activation" meaning you can only advance one unit at a time not a whole battle line. Not true to either books or HBO version of battles.
Not suprisingly I'll stick with A Game of Knights and Knaves for my Fantistorical battles. May try to use the figures and the trays for games in that system though. Wish figures had been compatible with Perry etc. who truely catch the flavor of Martin's world. Good reason to stick with a rule set not tied to a figure line.

Yes the size of The minis was what made me hesitating to pledge. In the end I joined the KS.
When I saw the minis in real at Spiel in Essen I realised how big they actually are. As I really like the sculpts and quality so far,
it seems they have to be kept separate from the rest of my collection.
Cheers Thomas
