Title: Pulp Alley Vice Ally game prep
Post by: Menelduir on March 15, 2017, 03:44:30 AM
Coming soon, gunfire at the airport, and big trouble brewing...

The plan is to set up, and keep set up, a number of battlefields.
Sp far three are more or less ready, the airport, Chinatown and a social club(undergoing renovation wrok to become the South Seas club)
In the works (no pictures yet) the docks/warehouse district, and Delancy street 'old town'.
After these I will work on the downtown core.

The areas are bigger than 3' x 3' with the plan to mark off a 3' x 3' area for each game, that can effectively vary the terrain by shifting the square left or right. Garbage cans and fire hydrants will delineate the scenario borders when other obvious landmarks do not exist. The various tables will not have a preset scenario, so, for instance, the airport could be gang war, or lost keys, or some other scenario. The other thing is that this will give a bit more of a feeling of familiarity for the players, and perhaps some planning, or learning from previous encounters.

Great set ups. I think the aerodrome is my favourite. I've been after one of those Plasticville hangers for ages, you've made a nice job it.

Totally magnificent! Your Chinatown reminds me of the one in Portland, Oregon. Very cool. And the airport is great.

Great idea, but how are you able to store multiple 3x3+ battlefields?

Store?

I will have them set up for the next 1-3 months, or how ever long the campaign lasts.

I have a (roughly) 17' x 21' game room where I can leave thing set up for an extended time. I usually have 3 tables in operation, which allows us to split up the gaming group into smaller groups, so no more then 3 players need to be on the same gaming table.

The main table is 5' x 9', that will have the social club, skid row and the downtown core (about 5-6 layouts).
A secondary table (currently set up with Chinatown) that is 4 1/2' x 5'. (maybe 2-3 layouts)
A third table (the airport) that is 3' x 4 1/2'.

In addition I have added an extension to the main table that is roughly 2 1/2' x 4 1/2' which will hold the docks and warehouses. (2 layouts, one blending in with the edge of skid row)

I play kind of loose and fast with the whole 3' x 3' concept, I keep it close to that size. The idea is to build a setup that will allow overlapping 3' x 3' layouts. So obviously players will not play two different scenarios side by side as, for instance Little Italy borders Chinatown, so a game in Little Italy means the 3' x 3' layout will overlap the back alley of Chinatown.

I did not build any 'battle boards' so Nothing is permanent. I laid out some roofing paper as a base, that then gets painted up (like the airport table) or has cobblestone road placed over top. In theory I can roll up the mats when done and store them in the garage.

Now storing the 50+ buildings that I have, that will be a challenge... :)
