To demonstrate my complete inability to complete any project, I present my 40K (and later 30K) work in progress.
First, a bit of background. When Rogue Trader came out I bought the box set RTB01 and split it with a friend (not sure if it was supposed to have a Cyberman and dalek sprue in the box).
I was not impressed with the hunched pose and strange short barreled guns so they got put to one side. I also bought the triple box of Rhinos and the Land Raider (that is still not assembled).
Interest in 40K was rekindled in the mid '90s with the new plastics but the original Womble helmet still appealed, so my Ultramarines have the now Mark VI helmet. I am still using the helmets off the RTB01 sprues (I picked up a number at Vapnatak in the late '90s).

So, first an Assault Womble Sergeant.
This was dug out of the figure box now over five years ago, after being photographed it went back and has not had the shoulder pad tidied.
I used an original RTB01 power glove for that retro look.

I do like the mk6 helmet. Nice take on the classic LotD paint scheme too. :)

Built from the basic plastic Dreadnought with bits from the Black Templar vehicle sprue including the sarcophagus cover and that sword/icon combo.
This was before the Venerable Dreadnought kit was available.

Ultramarine Commander.
Starting with a Space Marine Commander, I used a chest piece from a Tactical Marine and a Womble head from the same source. I smoothed off the centre of the chest piece and added a etched brass Ultramarine logo. The right handed power sword from the assault marine set and a left handed pistol arm provided the arms, the Storm Bolter replaced the pistol for that extra firepower. The commander backpack was topped with the Ultramarine icon. A set of pouches and a purity seal finished off the figure.
One day I will get round to finishing this.

Tau Crisis Battlesuit.
The suit has the Fireknife-7 configuration (twin linked missile and plasma rifle).
Currently unarmed. In the original codex it appeared you could have two of the same weapon or have a twin linked version. The original plan was to have two fusion guns for a tank killing monster suit. The shield would provide some additional protection. This did not seem to be the case for later versions of the codex.
The fusion guns were to be mounted on the shoulders so the multi-tracker needed to be represented by something else. Looking at it, it became clear that it could be used (with modifications) as a head.

Vampire womble lol

So, for Shadow War - Armageddon I present Chaos Wombles.
Built from a 2005 Chaos Marines box set I bought cheap at Salute a number of years ago (they were to provide bits for the Forge World resin heads and torsos).
This is my initial team.
Limited weapon load, the champion has a bolt pistol and an assault blade (i.e. a conventional metal sword), the four marines have boltguns. Everyone has frag grenades.
The majority of the figures were built from the contents of the box, though I did raid the spares box for three matching heads, the sword is from the Catachan plastics and the sword arm is from the old plastic Chaos Marine arm sprue.
I will put together a heavy bolter marine at some time.
-
While digging out a sprue for the Lead Legion build, I found an almost complete RTB01 sprue, which I present for you delectation.
I do have some original blue sprues, but they have provided heads for my Ultramarines.
-
So jealous. My brother and I split a box when we were tiny. Still love everything about that kit.
-
I have posted a picture of my first Lead Legion marine in the Lead Legion thread.
However, here he is supporting some Cadians.

100% progress. Though his base looks different/unfinished?

Unfinished, I forgot about it.
Citadel Agrax Earthshade followed by Citadel Terminatus Stone drybrush. Will fix today.

And a 40K army before the heat death of the universe.

At Colours I bought a Warbases' Space Corridor.
The Space Corridor range is made of MDF and the sections can be assembled and taken apart. Dove tail joint/sockets will allow them to be joined together.
This is a Dead End Corridor section.

Nice collection! I really like the brown paintjob on your imperial guard soldiers.
-
A great thread, it makes me happy to watch all your painted stuff!
Those corridors look ace!

Not painted a lot of Games Workshop models recently, but the Christmas issue of the 40K Conquest part-work included the Munitorium Container. As this is cheaper than buying them from GW, I bought one.
The kit has a few issues. The first is that it is made up of two copies of the same digital sculpts.
It is not a major issue, just laziness on the designer's part. Alternative top/bottom pieces would be good.
The second issue is how the top/bottom components are attached to the sprue.
It does look like it was laid out by a trainee (or there was a fill issue).
I cut off the surrounding sprue before cutting the sprue from the parts.
More details here:
http://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2018/12/munitorium-container.html (http://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2018/12/munitorium-container.html)
This is going to be a container for the Imperial Guard, so a nice plain paint job.
After an undercoat of Chaos black, it was sprayed with Snot Womble Green.
It was dry brushed with Dry Nurgle Green, then washed with Athonian Greenshade. It was dry brushed again with Dry Nurgle Green.
The roof and the bottom angled panels were washed with Agrax Earthshade.
The control panels were painted Abaddon Black, the skull Leadbelcher, highlighted Mithril Silver. Buttons are Bleached Bone.
Numbers and Cadian Gate symbols are from a 2003 transfer sheet, the Imperial Eagle from a 2000 sheet.

Simple, yet very effective.

I picked up a second one during the week.
I thought while I was building it, I would show how poorly the doors fit.

I have to ask - why "womble"? Is there a joke I am missing?
-
I have to ask - why "womble"? Is there a joke I am missing?
I'm guessing it's because the original RTB01 (mk 6 beakies) plastics looked a lot like the wombles, at least the shape of the helmet looks a lot like the shape of a womble head
(http://ciwm-journal.co.uk/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/28-08-135pic.png) (https://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2008/11/29/2542-Rogue%20Trader%2C%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Ultramarines%2C%20Warhammer%2040%2C000.jpg)

I have to ask - why "womble"? Is there a joke I am missing?
Yes it is because of the Mk6 helmet.

If you look back at the Ultramarines (vanilla wombles) on this thread, they are all Mk6.
And then it became a theme:
Vegewombles
Vampire Wombles
Snot Wombles
Dog Wombles
Frock Wombles

Ah. Not a show I was familiar with here in the States.
Totally see the resemblance, though. (smh)
