Title: The Case of the Mukkinese Idol
Post by: Mad Lord Snapcase on March 24, 2017, 05:10:50 PM
Whilst Professor Moriarty sits motionless, like a spider in the centre of its web, that web has a thousand radiations, and he knows well every quiver of each of them. Currently there was a minor quiver in the strand that led to Snapcase’s Emporium of Wonders located in a tumble-down warehouse at the the back of an abandoned farm. The farm on the outskirts of Zeal Monachorum was known locally as Splatt’s Pond Farm, although Farmer Splatt was long gone and the pond was now no more than a puddle.

One of Moriarty’s myriad criminal enterprises was the sale of real or fake (he wasn’t fussy which) artefacts for the use of cults and secret societies across the country. If you wanted an altar to sacrifice a virgin on or the skull of a serial-killer to swear your secret societies’oaths of allegiance on, then Snapcase’s Emporium of Wonders was the place to purchase said items. The proprietor, one Athelstan Snapcase (younger brother to the Earl of Snapcase and the black-sheep of the Snapcase dynasty), known to his friends as Stan was about to pull off a right royal swindle.

Benjamin Plugsocket, Zeal Monachorum’s jobbing carpenter had carved an exact likeness of the fabled Mukkinese Idol. This idol was said to bestow immortality on it’s possessor and had been lost in the mists of time. Moriarty’s henchmen had put the word about ‘up in the smoke’ that the Idol had been rediscovered and was up for grabs if you had a Guinea or two about your person. Well, eight thousand Guineas to be precise!

An unknown gentleman of foreign extraction, Count Vladislav Dracule had expressed an interest to Moriarty and was on his way down to view and perhaps purchase this legendary artefact. Stan was already calculating how to spend his share on Dolly Mops and gin.
Unbeknownst to Moriarty, Stan or the Count, a telegram had just arrived at 221b Baker Street and had been brought upstairs by Mrs. Hudson.

COME AT ONCE. DEVIL OF A BUSINESS. DIRTY DEALINGS AFOOT. SPLATT’S POND FARM. ZEAL MONACHORUM.
LESTRADE.

Our tale begins…………………………………….

All seems quiet at the Emporium of Wonders………………..

Thanks, I bought quite a few of these figures from another member of this forum.

The AAR has been slightly delayed due to me being called away unexpectedly today.

Irene Adler is Blue Moon from BMM-100: Box 1 “I had Such a Howling Good Time” A Werewolf Scenario:

Very lovely setting and well told so far!
The not-so-famous names are invented, too or should a more informed guy know them from Holmes' stories as well? However, they are great! Especially the policemen!

Thanks, Drachenklinge.

The policemans names are actually from TV programmes; 'Z Cars', 'Goodnight Sweetheart' and 'Murdoch'.

A very enjoyable game and I found the rules were quite easy to learn, thanks Craig. More games of IHMN will follow. I think the Companie de Strigoi were lucky in that Dracule's power of levitation came in very handy, not only in the scenario I had chosen but also in the way the scenery was laid out. This was the result of serendipity and not my intention. However, the whole thing developed into a fun story. I hope you enjoy.

I've got the first three books, I shall now be buying the new one, Gothic.

Congratulations on a lovely set up, figures and scenario!   :-* I am preparing a couple of forces and reading through the rules, in preparation for my first game, and so reading AARs like this provide wonderful inspiration.  Thank you.

By the way, was that Comic Life that you used, please?  I ask because I have it and sometimes use it for AARs (turning it into a pdf to send to players), but I wondered how you go about posting pages from it onto here...?  Any tips would be greatly appreciated.  :)

Thanks again for the great AAR, and I look forward to more.

It is indeed Comic Life. When you export the finished article it normally defaults to PDF. However, there is an option to export it as a .jpg which you can then post here in the normal way. I use Photobucket.

I've got the first three books, I shall now be buying the new one, Gothic.

I am awaiting next month's budget for that... I need to get some Victorians painted, though... *grumble*

I was actually planning to use a slightly younger Lord Snapcase (also sporting a big 'stache) from his time travelling the blank spots on the World Map.

I really do look forward to seeing that, Argonor. The Snapcases do get about, I may need to work on a family tree for them.   ;)

The surviving Transylvanian retainers arrested by Lestrade were put to work restoring order to the Emporium of Wonders. However, Scotland Yard are now investigating the legality of certain aspects of the Emporium's business dealings. Old Scrotum, the aged and wrinkled family retainer is currently packing for his employer's forthcoming sojourn abroad. Athelstan Snapcase does not fancy a stay at Her Majesty's Prison, Dartmoor and is heading for sunnier climes!   ;)
