Title: Of Gods and Mortals - Mythic Greek Gallery
Post by: agentbalzac on March 29, 2017, 07:32:32 AM
Hi all,

Here's some close up pics of some of my OGAM Mythic Greeks.

1) Zeus:  As mentioned previously, it's the Reaper Bones Storm Giant, with his sword replaced with a 'lightning bolt' made from various thicknesses of steel wire.

...here facing off against a Warlord (Immortal) Hoplite for scale

2) This is a GW LOTR Great Eagle, who serves as Zeus in his Eagle form, this time confronting the same (surprised and doubtless terrified) Hoplite

3) A Minotaur - another Reaper Bones figure.  This one had his right hand axe removed and replaced with a chain, and the left hand one carved down to a more Greek Xiphos shape.  The original was too 'Games Workshop' in style with two fantasy-looking battleaxes

4) Leonidas.  This is the spectacularly posed Bronze Age Miniatures 30mm figure, with a North Star 100mm wire spear.  Many of my OGAM Legends are from this series - their extra height befits their Legend status.

5) Dryads.  I had some trouble coming up with figures for this group - I used two of the Reaper Dryads and a conversion of the Succubus, and a number of second-hand GW Sylvaneth Dryads

(http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb344/agentbalzac/OGAM_20170325_Dryads02.jpg) (http://s1201.photobucket.com/user/agentbalzac/media/OGAM_20170325_Dryads02.jpg.html)

6) Centaurs, also from Reaper Bones.  The male serves as Chiron.  This one and the female centaur proved tricky to clean up, some seam lines can still be glimpsed.  Both have North Star spears, to replace the hopeless, irretrievably bent plastic ones.   >:(

(http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb344/agentbalzac/OGAM_20170325_Chiron01.jpg) (http://s1201.photobucket.com/user/agentbalzac/media/OGAM_20170325_Chiron01.jpg.html)

(http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb344/agentbalzac/OGAM_20170325_Centaur01.jpg) (http://s1201.photobucket.com/user/agentbalzac/media/OGAM_20170325_Centaur01.jpg.html)

I acknowledge that my skills pale beside some of those on this forum - time and temperament have me tend towards a more impressionistic style, aimed at getting figs onto the table - but I hope you enjoy.

All the best,

agentbalzac

Very creative use of Reaper Giant. The minotaur is also a simple, yet fine, conversion. Congratulations.

Those are some pretty cool, and unique miniatures due to some very nice conversion techniques. Well done. Thanks for sharing and happy gaming with those figures.

Agreed with the above, great idea for Zeus and I like how you've redeemed the Minotaur as well.

Nice work and very inspiring stuff… I might steal borrow some of the ideas when I get to paint the Bones figures in my "lead" pile lol

I like them.  The conversion work is clean, simple, and extremely well done.

I don't mean any insult by simple; too many times the conversions we see are too overdone and detract from the miniature itself.

I second that.
Great idea to use the giant as god.
It's the most difficult part of the game to find good looking tall figurines to represent gods in the rules.
Cheers
