Title: 28mm Beat 'em Up - the prep.
Post by: Jagannath on March 29, 2017, 11:14:47 PM
Hi all,

Toying with a wee 28mm beat 'em up project (I say toying, but I've already tracked down about a trillion suitable minis:
https://uk.pinterest.com/regalstone1985/28mm-cyberpunk-beat-em-up/)

Does anyone know where I could buy some 28mm fists? It'd be good to be able to convert some minis into unarmed - I reckon I could resculpt arms if needed, but clenched fists are beyond me. Anything out there similar to the Crooked Dice armed hands?

For left arms I could probably just buy a fantasy plastic sprue or two and use the shield holding arms... right arms seems tricker though.

Any help appreciated

I don't know of any, but it's a good idea, so might add it to the wish list.

Had some ideas on a side-scroller beat 'me up too, so very interested to see what you have planned.

Well that'd be great if you guys did 'em. Just looking at the individual Perry sprues, a couple of these

and/or these

Would probably do the trick... I could scrape off the polls and resculpt the thumbs I reckon. Not sure how well they'd scale though, might be a wee bit dainty.

Hmmmm......

The other option is to press mould a left and a right off a suitable mini - never had great results from oyamaru but it could work.

Anvil industries do some armoured pistol grip hands:

Don't know how much use those would be but they're the only one's I know of

From when I was sculpting, fists are the easiest hands to make. It shouldn't be that hard to find a sculptor to crank out a few. Finding the caster will be the problem.

I'd be in the market for some fists and/or empty hands myself too. In heroic, scale though, for a bar brawl game that I'd like to put together.

This could be something for Statuesque Miniatures perhaps given their form for doing things in fine, pulp and heroic scales?

I needed a bunch of fists for a project and just snipped some hands off of Heroclix figures. Plenty of fists there :)

Black Cat Bases has a pack of lower arms + hands ...which have a rather desperate look, I bought them I intend to use them for drowning sailors markers in pirate games etc. :)

Thanks all - I hadn't considered having them sculpted... that might not be too crazy an idea. I think for now I might pick up a few various cheap sprues (Perry, a frostgrave one, whatever else is on ebay) and go from there.

Now on to papercraft terrain to make a street fascia....

Hi all,

Thought I'd convert the fist thread to a general thread for items related to this project. Next, question - fascias.

I fancy making this board long and thin, with building fascias at the back and the action taking place along a pavement and road. Anyone know where to begin making fascias? I've trawled a few railway sites and looked at papercraft, just wandering what other ideas are out there. I want a mix of cyberpunk and decrepit NY style brownstones.

Anyone ever done anything like that?

Outpost Wargames - scroll down to Building frontages:

Or Ainsty Streetwise range:

Thanks you - I had seen the Outpost ones, I'd like them a little more American but I suppose once I've extra detailed and cyberpunk'd them they'd  likely be fine. Do they scale OK? I reckon the ainsty are a touch small - closer to 25mm

I could also do '3D' fascias using Mantic's sci if terrain tiles if I wanted a more cyberpunk result. Think I want the scenery to look somewhere between this stuff

And this

But obviously arranged 'flat'. I was thinking about buying the drop zone commander card buildings and gluing them 'behind' in a way that looked like more buildings in the distance. Not sure on that one though... or how to do alleys.
