Howdy Ho guys,
Second topic for me to show you the beginning of a small troup of Lannisters.
I used Gondor LSDA and WOTR Perry (yes, not so original, I know)
Please sorry for the pictures

I can see the appeal, and I never do much like the realisation of the Gondorians in the films, apart from the Ithiien rangers etc. As for archers in 1/2 and 3/4 armour, and enclosing helms. Honestly.
BUT
I DO like your Westerosi take on them. I'd go one step further and change the shields - they are too ideosyncratic. Kite, heater, or even oval shields would match. The more wearable armour, the less you needed a warboard to take hits. They are easy enough to come by and would give them a more pseudo-medieval and less fantasy feel.
Having said all that I do like your archers, especially the sensible open face helmets and the unarmoured heads.
-
Thank you for your honesty
For the shields, I'll use others in the next minis but i dont have many of them so i keep them for lords and captain
(http://ekladata.com/YTVOiGkkxaX3LcERKAFVswt8gJ8.jpg)
So maybe I'll sculpt them to look oval or change it with late roman shield but i agree.
Askellad
-
Fine, they'll do handsomely for the Sers!
-
Hi Askellad,
you could very easily do a mould of the shields and cast all the shields you need.
Marco
-
Those Perry head-swaps onto Perry WoMT do quite nicely!! Looking foward to seeing your paint on them.
-
I've considered using Uruk Hai warrior heads as a basis for HBO style Lannisters, but I hadnt seen the potential in Gondor warriors for armoured bodies.
-
Minindk, found this in the internet
(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-fkoKL-G_E5M/VPkO4ojyqGI/AAAAAAAACOY/YgOwny-XxLo/s640/blogger-image--858149716.jpg)
-
Exactly!
I hadnt seen that picture before, but its pretty much what I have in mind for a small Lion Rampant Lannister force. Either a few lines of black paint across the chest, or some tiny greenstuff lines if my modelling skills are up to it, and they're spot on for the HBO look.

good start

Next step : Ser, officers and some soldiers

Good Night,
Askellad
-
Really nice builds!!! Looking forward to see them all painted!! You're Jaime looks btw kinda like mine haha :)
-
Nice, wouldn't mind some of those mini's
Those'll look sweet with some paint.
-
Looks like you are off to a good start! I feel the heads of some of the starks are to high on the bodies, as if they had double necks. The heads with Frostgrave barbarian heads. I think you could shave the necks down on the heads quite a lot to better match up with the Perry bodies.
-
nice additions. Was this thread added to the GoT hub?
-
Thanks,
@ogrob agree for the heads but it is too late :/
@tomrommel1 nope'and I didnt know there was a hub

Lovely kitbashing there Askellad. I especially like those sergeants! And welcome to the GoT madness!
-
More very nice builds there.
Added to the LAF GoT compendium thread :)
-
Thanks you ! I have a lot of work of painting now
-
Nice work! I'm working on some boltons myself using the same reference image and almost the same parts. Great minds think alike!
-
Cannot stop converting... o_o
Here are 3 old LOTR figures that became Northmen (or nightwatch dunno already)

I have to stop making furs... furs everywhere
See ya,
Askellad

very nice additions indeed
-
Very nice sculpting.
-
Your project is a real inspiration for me. The miniatures look fantastic :-*. Looking forward to more posts.
PS: Would be great if you could describe which parts you mixed here
-
Oh thank you ! What do you want to know?
I used Perry Wotr, perry agincourt
Fireforge sergents, Lotr gondor, men of alliance against sauron and orc for bodies, arms and heads; frostgrave (soldiers, cultists, barbarians) arms and heads, some gbp (dark age warriors), warlord games (gallic and dacians) and Victrix (iberic) heads.
There are also a GW eldar head, a fireforge templar head, a russian fireforge body, russian weapons, and a wargame factory saxon body
The lion shields are from russian fireforge, some others from wargame factory and iberic victrix
I think that's all,
Askellad

Looking good my friend! I see you've fallen into the same trap as me, assembling those plastics is so enjoyable that it builds up to quite the painting queue. lol lol

Ah a member like me, if you know, I have hundreds of assembled minis to paint..

Some great kitbashed figures, I dont know if its just me but the HBO Ironborn look like out of work miners to me?I know they have deliberately made each house look different, Starks grungy almost dark age, Lannisters pseudo Samurai, Ironborn just wrong for seafarers! I'm sure Martin has sanctioned these stylistic atributes, but its so far from the books it really grates with me at times!
Many of the minis I've seen on here (capt Blood, Frank) are far closer to my view of what Martin writes about.
But thats the beauty of this type of modelling its whatever you want it to be, and I've got so many ideas for my own Lannister/Stark/Tully forces from the superb stufc I've seen on here.
-
Its been a long time! I've been busy with Inquisimunda and SOBAH but here are my lannisters almost finished.
I have to base and vernish them. I also need to paint my 3 HQ.
You can see spearmen, pikemen, swordmen, archers and sergeants. If you look closely, you may see my ed sheeran dude who will always be in first line to die quickly

They work really well to approximate the look of the Lannisters from the HBO series... clever idea to use the Gondorian bodies in this way. Bravo :)
Agree about Ed Sheeran. What a pointless and frankly pretty useless cameo appearance that was ::)
-
These look great!
I have some spare Gondorians knocking around that don't fit in with my take on LOTR, and a plethora of spare Perry heads... I'm feeling another kitbashing session coming on. I do need figures to represent the Kings Landing city watch (the goldcloaks). Time to hit the books again... >:(
-
Its been a long time here! I will be running soon a narrative campaign for friends beyond the wall so I have made so new stuff
A red priest, lord of bones and a whitewalker

Welcome back!
Can you talk us through the kits for each figure ?
:)
-
Brilliant kitbashing! I am surprised at how well that red works on the Lannisters. Great job!
-
great builds, I really like the white walker.
-
Welcome back!
Can you talk us through the kits for each figure ?
:)
Sure,
Red Priest : frostgrave wizard arms and body, Victrix german head, GW sword (wizard I think)
Lord of bones : Frostgrave cultist head, frostgrave barbarian body and arms, oathmark goblin skull
Whitewalker : fireforge folk dead head (a lady head), mantic zombie body and arms, mantic northmen spear cut to become a sword and fireforge dead knight horse
-
Welcome back, and great kitbashing!
-
