Title: The Pikeman's Lament - River Crossing
Post by: tim in saskatoon on April 12, 2017, 04:10:39 AM
We played a second game in our little narrative campaign with The Pikeman's Lament. This action saw our dashing covenanting hero Ensign Evan "Holy" MacErrol marching south with the Earl of Leven to intervene in the civil war down south. Ensign MacErrol was tasked with capturing a vital ford...

how many figures a side is this on average?

Well the AVERAGE unit is 4 points (some are 6 or 2 - and units can be upgraded or downgraded). Forces are generally 24 points. Most foot units have 12 (though some have just 6) and Mounted have 6. So up to 72 foot, but more regularly I would imagine up to about 26-48 foot and a 12-18 horse?

In this one the Scots had 66 foot, the Royalists had 36 foot and 6 mounted. Both were 24 point forces. They were not ideal forces, but simply what I happen to have painted that could fill out a 24 point force. But it made for an interesting game!

...just not sure how much longer I can resist. Painting just a few bases to start with wouldn't be a bad idea though, eh? I mean, just to see if I've got the look right. And then I can finish the ACW stuff before moving on the ECW, that'll be OK, won't it..?
Absolutely... 8)

Yeah, nothing could go wrong there... I totally don't have drawers full of half completed projects because I thought I'd "just paint on or two of something else just to try it out" and then ended up abandoning the "current" project.

Isn't time for another battle report?

Probably!

I'd love to get back to this - just been a little distracted lately - Lead Painters League, playing Pax Renaissance (and Super Dungeon Explore... and... other games), it's spring and I've been getting out and doing a lot more bike riding, etc...

I want to finish up a few more units before we play again - perhaps I'll work on those for next weeks LPL entry.

I was on your blog and I noticed that you have a lot of old glory figures in your ECW collection. Nice job.  How do they scale up with the other manufacturers in your Collection, specifically the warlord Figures? I just picked up some warlord on a whim but I was really planning on building the rest of my collection with the old glory range.

I think they're mostly okay. When I get a few more painted perhaps I'll post some figure comparisons like I have with other stuff that I have multiple manufacturers represented in a collection...
