The Frostgrave plastics are great fun to convert and build.
Whether they will ever get used is another matter.
-
Here is the first barbarian with two handed spear.

-
Second barbarian.
They are inspired by the Wildings of Game of Thrones.
-
Barbarian with hand weapon.

-
Another barbarian with hand weapon.
-
Barbarian archer.

Barbarian Elementalist

The staff is plastic rod decorated with bits from the Cultist sprue with some teeth from a Barbarian axe.

-
Nice work on these.I like the Elementalist you have done.
-
Thanks.
When I originally bought the rulebook (from the Ainsty stand at Warfare 2015) I also bought some of Ainsty's treasure piles.
Now I need to finish some of the figures.
-
Nice gold effect within the boxes
-
Great stuff.
-
Or just a boat.
I have not yet bought the new plastic crew (though I have been looking at and building some of the Shield Maidens, plus admiring the Gripping Beast Arabs).
What I have done is dig out an Ainsty boat I bought a long time ago,
(https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7WLKfHYSEh8/WmTl9oRT0TI/AAAAAAAAC8Y/gtFMq_baQF8hGb94bjD70ytkfBief7-dACLcBGAs/s1600/boat-2.png)
Now who will be crewing it?
-
A sailor with hand weapon.
Warlord Games Celt.
The joy of Frostgrave is the ability to use all manner of stuff from the spares box.
-
aye, it's even got me doing a bit of 'kit-bashing' ...
nicely animated figure, just how I like'em.
-
So I finally bought a box of Gripping Beast Arab Spearmen and Archers.
The box contains eight identical sprues.
Two of the bodies can be archers or spear men, there is also a sword arm and a trumpet.
Two Spearmen.
Two archers.
A swordsman and a Frostgrave Sailor.
Group shot.
As you can see they are of a similar style to the Frostgrave figures. Not sure if you could swap arms between the two but the figures work well together.
-
Nice figures.
-
nice work - I've done something similar on a couple of figures for GA - will have to put a post up.
-
8) cool figs!!!
-
awsome barbarians!
Congrtas
-
At SELWG I bought one of the Blotz Spawning Pools.
It is a nice piece of MDF scenery, usable for Frostgrave or as a large planter.
-
So I bought the new Frostgrave Soldiers II recently.
Four identical sprues each containing five multi-part and multi-pose female soldiers.
These are the first five figures I have assembled (some final Greenstuff is still to be added and the bases finished).
A Magician. The right arm is one of the two handed axe arms, with the axe removed and a brass rod added for the staff. Greenstuff details still to be added.

-
very nicely done.
much better proportioned figures than some of the other plastics imo, too.
-
That magician is going to look so amazing! Great use of the set!
-
Prompted by a thread here (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=114296.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=114296.0)) I actually painted one of my Snake Men.
I also went through my blog and corrected their name!

Nice looking snake man!!
-
Back in April I bought the Oathmark Human Infantry box set.
Here is a photograph of the sprue (the other side is shown here: https://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2019/12/oathmark-human-infantry.html (https://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2019/12/oathmark-human-infantry.html)).

Here is the first one I have painted.

I have assembled the rest of the first sprue, I just need to get round to painting them.
-
Love the paint-work on those snake-men!
-
Great work in this thread. Very inspirational. I particularly like the paintwork on your snakeman.
-
Nice work on the snake men.
Also like the Oathmark human, need to build some of them myself
:)
-
Nice work on the Snakemen and the Oathmark figure!
-
Thanks.
I also have the Kings of War Northern Clans (busy putting extra fur on a chilly fox), and the Fireforge Northern infantry and archers.
I still have not assembled any of the Wizards.
-

So after the first ruin, here is the second.

For some reason I thought building an Oathmark army was a good idea...
http://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2020/08/oathmark-gnolls.html (http://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2020/08/oathmark-gnolls.html)
So another twenty to build and thirty nine to paint.

-
Go Team Gnolls!
-
Thanks.
Small amount of progress
So another twenty nineteen to build and thirty nine to paint.
Plus there is a missing sprue, so there might be five others somewhere.

So another twenty nineteen to build and thirty nine eight to paint.
The Ruined Arch is from Renedra but is too long to fit on a Renedra oval base, so the end of the wall was cut off and placed at 90 degrees.

This was bought a long time ago (possibly from Bad Squiddo at Warfare, or direct from Heresey at Salute).
More by luck than judgement I based it on a 50mm round base, so it will be doing double duty as a "troll" in my Gnoll Army for Oathmark.

-
Awww, it’s the adorable... er I mean abominable snowman. Nice one!
-
With an Illusionist led war band, one of the spells is the Illusionary Soldier.
As it needs to be as well protected as it can (it is dispelled by taking any damage), a Knight seemed a good idea.
Built from one of the bodies from the Soldier II sprue, with the Sallet head from the Knights sprue, the Oathmark Human Champion/Officer sword arm and an Oathmark Human shield arm.
-
I like this one for multiple reasons:
It is a great combination demonstrating what can be done by combining the Northstar kits.
The helmet gives it an "anonymous" vibe which fits very well when considering what the spell does.
I also like the subdued fantasy-vibe. This one could be used even in Westeros.

Couldnt said it better!
-
I love your conversion for the illusionary soldier, it looks great!
And whatever his wage, the man-at-arm is definitely not paid enough to deal with a snow troll... ^^
-
Thanks.
I have to admit that GOT is my primary inspiration for Oathmark (though I have just started reading The Last Wish and must revisit the series, and The Outpost is silly fun) and I am building the Frostgrave and Oathmark figures to have a degree of interchangeability.
The tall body from Soldiers II is very useful, it is also going to be a Command figure with the Sceptre of Command (The Pure version). I just need to add a suitable head.
The Pure will be a "mercenary" type unit using the Fireforge Byzantine Spearmen. They fight for the side with the matched Sceptre of Command - if the sceptre holder is killed by a character figure, it is possible the sceptre can be picked up and The Pure will follow their new Commander.
-
So here are the first two demons from the new Frostgrave Demons sprues.

They are looking great!

8) way cool...i like Lizzy with the axe.

I bought The Perilous Dark supplement at the last wargames show I attended (if you remember what they were) in November 2019.
The Perilous Dark was the last supplement for Frostgrave First edition, but is generally compatible with Frostgrave Second Edition.
One of the scenarios involves weirdly glowing crystals. I bought a pack of Crystals (cast in resin) from Bad Squid Games. Originally they were for Malifaux (Rasputina).
They were based on Renedra 25mm round bases.
They were undercoated with Corax White and the base painted black.
The glowing crystals were painted with Citadel Hexwraith Flame.

When Bob signed up for this trip to Felstad, he was expecting some support.

The Chronohounds were undercoated with Citadel Corax White, then the eyes and mouth were painted with Citadel Screamer Pink. The rest of the figure was then painted with Citadel Contrast Aethermatic Blue for a glowing otherworldly look.

A long time ago (which can describe a lot of stuff I bought and set aside for later use) I bought a pack of four treasure chests from Ainsty.
They sat around for a while, but never got painted.
With my interest in Frostgrave renewed (and not being able to find the Ainsty Treasure markers), they have been dug out.
The pack contains two lots of two models.
Two large bound chests:
And two medium bound chests.
The chests are about an inch long, so are on 30mm Renedra round bases.
Joriff (qv) celebrates his haul from his visit to Felstad.
-
Joriff was the son of a tavern owner on the Great Road to the North (and Felstad). He was hard working and popular (amongst the "popular" crowd) in his town. He would have probably ended up as the mayor of the town, or even moved to a larger town or city and become the mayor or higher there.
And then the old man and his party arrived at the tavern. They had been adventuring in the Frozen City, but the old man had been taken ill and decided to retire. Unfortunately he had waited too long and died in the tavern.
One of his grimoires was found by the young Joriff and he stole it....
I needed a Necromancer for Oathmark, and I thought it would make a change for a war band in Frostgrave.
The figure is built using the Frostgrave Cultist sprue plus some details from the Wizards sprue.

-
Love the statue, that paint job really works well
Did you start with a brown base coat and dry brush, or add a wash?
-
Thanks.
The figure and base were undercoated with Plasticote Rust effect spray paint, followed by Halford Grey and a dusting of Citadel Corax White. Then copious amounts of Citadel Agrax Earthshade.
I was going to dry brush it, but decided that it looked okay as is.
-

That's interesting - I wouldn't have thought of starting off with a metal, but it really does give a nice granite-y, stone effect.
I'm sure I've got a can of similar stuff somewhere - I'll have to give it a try!
-
A great collection various stuff. I particularly like the snake man. I've been considering buying a box of them but I haven't seen many photos of them painted so I was unsure. I think I'll get a box now.
-
Thanks

It is entirely for the texture effect (the red and metallic colour is covered by the Halfords grey).

They are nice figures, I am not sure if they will fit comfortably on a 25mm base.

When I posted this, it showed a warning that the topic has not been posted for 120 days. My last post was in January - must move some of the Frostgrave stuff forward...
Okay, for the first Frostgrave II supplement, I needed some berserkers types (Blood Berserkers? must look it up).

The gap between the head and the body was filled with Greenstuff.
I think I need at least another five. I might have them finished this decade....

Its a nice kitbash, I like the result!

Simple but effective kitbash.

A very simple MDF kit, the majority of which are a stack of simple shapes.
Nine figures based on 25mm Renedra bases fit comfortably.

Simplest conversions are always the most effective.

Nice conversion - simple but very effective.

Thanks, and thanks about the comments about the boat.
I do need to crack on with those Nilfgaard stand ins.

So this is the first thing I have painted this year, of any kind.
Not a good start.
I bought a Blotz Spawning Pool at SELWG last year, I had already assembled one for use with Ghost Archipelago in 2018.
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtQUToSMhk0nRT2TSglvI_bZMqgw0Q5k-tNdI1a5yD_o7jtEvTf7ioGukd-1m_PbtwR1lusl8rc4lM5HHgolqhehqvcAoFflCnEEKHRG-qHsZ6eLlHI6XUiJD0EglcD1FkrDyae-TxfHD5VgfRUIlae0HMV2k92p9eOgPrM8J_8NFxQ1IIllPbv7O6Ww/s500/spawningpool2-7.png)
I decided this should have a story to it. I decided that it would still be full of frozen water, perhaps with broken ice indicating Something had emerged from the inky depths.
Removal of the corner of the capstones together with some of the wall stones from the same corner showed its age.
I also decided it needed a more irregular base, especially where the Something had escaped.
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVJ_SR7DfHzvlTe-QE5zCCzUla4Z3XsXJYXGVppGBTC0Cgwbi7430Xhvgthf47oxVwkjCF93L-9LLJN4ZZtZxolWfZo82BeWzQngR1mZgtRtAL_0slaxlmXu9sfcF6O0HcGgbc4IMIf61wJOGczTOh_o5yX0v_6RgIqLBfnLEd_udb43sXfMIJHm_IXA/s500/spawningpool2-12.png)
A Products For Wargamers Scatter Base of suitable size was chosen and the partially assembled pool was glued in place. Some additional flag stone fragments made from bits of MDF. The pieces of MDF removed from the walls was then added on top, together with the two separate cap stones.
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMYVcR_33qiM96dqVWIgRlAxyVDytBj94af3lsYQ_AyQ0mu-9u1_PzhhFwg1WGFnsMX2myx_7INfrqZ3R3xCXih2fY2L4wrSwIAvXFod5ICEpFSJGZEY86eFSaOjRGSYpuySCmgvEymBFRA2azCpwEObA12UX5c5jkthvCBZlhXkU0GsfVvGNRPixhLg/s500/spawningpool2-4.png)
Between the flagstones and on the other parts of the exposed base, Woodland Scenics cinder ballast was sprinkled over PVA glue.
The whole thing was first sprayed with Halford's Grey Primer, followed by Citadel Chaos Black spray. The whole thing was then brush painted with watered down Army Painter black paint to seal the PVA and fill in where the spray might have missed.
The stones were dry brushed first with a mix of Vallejo Black Grey and Army painter Black, followed by lighter dry brushing of Black Grey, then Black Grey mixed with Vallejo London grey and finally a dry brush of Citadel terminates Stone.
It was then washed with Citadel Nuln Oil.
The pool itself has still to be painted.

Looking good mate!

So the Barbarians II box set is out (http://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2022/11/frostgrave-barbarians-ii.html (http://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2022/11/frostgrave-barbarians-ii.html)).
As I was looking at the bodies, I did think that one of them was a bit over dramatic for my Oathmark Northmen army.
However, I also bought the Stargrave Mercenaries II box set (http://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2022/11/stargrave-mercenaries-ii.html (http://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2022/11/stargrave-mercenaries-ii.html)) which has a couple of interesting heads suitable for fantasy figures.
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG54xTodUjez13mfT40ciTQc4H-5t0JYBEuKNJukHobqDtD_Gdcgqg1dooaVjC84EyesWbs9y0JxwfoF2Q6ccaN6GGEoKnk0Bay6lJ-GyOhomdhoMPRMH0YrbjFEW3nJT9takGK6kK_dhKzOFr6bvSny0MSfTooSR6705VqQB-Vjm7h_WPxocRdXFT_g/s558/barbarians-ii-1-1.png)
Amongst the weapons on the Barbarians II sprue are a pair of what I can only describe as "punch swords", short sword length blades with the grip perpendicular to the blade, Suitably exotic for a non human character.
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLDQSrruJCBpB_WMpGFzBF5_NTGnf4hMdJ5EHUVBVR4J9-acByC5BXQfziaGbpFVRLjkDndjBDQhUvLWOZbTjPKnPN407wna-_KXB97DtTqt7QkrRQ230hRrOgUeBzk4ZviUkCkWEN4JA1Oung31MH1efiASS4IDagtQ0i0SM_YS6jC4vFVCBOWgGqPg/s500/barbarians-ii-1-2.png)
I still have to base and start to paint it (or indeed any other figure this year),
-
Great kitbash mate!
-
Not specifically for Frostgrave, but for Five Leagues.
The Whispers from Beyond enemy table wants various undead, including various types of what look like zombies.
I am working on a casting call for the table, but the Fireforge Living Dead Peasants will cover a number of the entries.
The box contains three identical sprues, each sprue builds six figures (four male and two female - evidently raised by an equal opportunity necromancer).
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY0IzIl9il6qtIt82E0rY9mw7QYx9L0RDgXGsUK4fsxpa2SJwzlEh327fzAMWbZWCCJGMLpSEAif72lI-naJFODXkjhlm0YSxeymp0NHamhFDMH-TKDXDnU9wYYw_AHTxSEKFqh7eZ_wVPixFjhBO2i6Bkco2WNR0bq2HltM4sE1Yg8X5iCigArqrfow/s1000/ldpeasants-5.png)
There are three complete pairs of empty hands, plus two handed and one handed weapons.
Like the other Fireforge fantasy figures, they are quite tall. They are without puddle bases, so it is not quite so noticeable.

Oathmark Skeleton, Fireforge Living Dead Peasant, Oathmark Human Infantry and Oathmark Revenant infantry.

So I bought the Crooked Dice Fantasy Objective Tokens back in October 2021.
Here is the first one painted.

Not quite sure what I am going to use them for.
Simple paint job:
Sprayed Citadel Corax White, Citadel Agrax Earthshade and Citadel Nuln Oil.
Dry brushed Citadel Tyrant Bone then Citadel Terminatus Stone.
-
Very effective
Not quite sure what I am going to use them for.
Ages ago I made a bunch of corpse tokens and we used them to mark where characters died on the table. It was good fun after the battle as you could see where all the action took place. Might be worth a go.
