Title: Blood Eagle Steppe Tribes
Post by: ayak333 on April 20, 2017, 05:10:45 PM
Hello everyone, I've yet to play Blood eagle, but I've been reading the rulebook and I'm dreaming of a campaign set in Russia in the 9th century Involving Slavs, Varangians, and Steppe Tribes. However, the book focuses on North Western Europe, so steppe cavalry is not covered. Blood Eagle allows for the unit creation for really anything, and warhorses/riding horses are available in game. Has anyone dabbled with horse archers/mounted skirmishers? Do mounted archers create an unbalanced game? All thoughts welcome!

I have not tried it but any game where you have mounted horse archers on one side and the opponent does not have sufficient missile troops is going to be fairly one sided. It's also going to be a shooting match so a little bit of a die rolling yawn fest unless you are careful. No awards needed for knowing that I know. :)

So I would say it will depend heavily on scenario's and force balancing. No point system is not going to solve that - especially with Varangians vs. Steppe Tribes. If you can cover that then I don't see a reason it would not work.
