If it's the bloke with the Vickers K Ash, it'll be the Recce Squadron's spear and lighening badge.

The Second World War / DAK Project
« Last post by scotty on Today at 06:33:07 PM »
Over the last few weeks I have slowly been building up my DAK forces. I'm trying to keep them non rule specific as will either be gaming with O'Group or Rapid fire. I've used a mix of manufacturers. Forged in Battle for the infantry, vehicles are either Zvezda, Plastic Soldier Company or 3d prints.

Did the AVRE crews have tank berets or were they equipped like engineers?

Were they engineers trained to operate a tank or tank crew trained to be engineers?

Good question. Hadn't thought about that, was going to go with black as a default option.

There's quite a few photographs of members of the Assault Squadrons wearing what look like black berets with RE Cap badges.

That said I've also seen photos of a lighter beret possibly khaki, which seems odd as I would have presumed that anyone not wearing a Para, RAC or Marine beret woud have been wearing the GS cap. Then again they could just be nattily worn GS caps, which were of course khaki.

Just had a rummage around Google. Seen pics of blokes wearing both black berets, light berets and GS cap. Some in the same picture!

Wiki says AVRE had a demolition NCO in addition to the crew. Think I might do two in black and one khaki, just because...

Just did an image search for the GS cap and it seems the side cap was early war, later on a very beret looking khaki option.

More Germanics off the desk this week, another warband, mix of warlord metals and plastics, mixed Foundry, First corps shields, a mix of transfers and decals.

Cheers
