GNW Swedish Guard Grenadiers
« on: 21 April 2017, 04:54:39 PM »
Hi, being careful not to mislead anyone by putting Swedish Lifeguard and adding disappointing photos!

My Life Guard Grenadiers are complete and amongst the nicest units I have finished for a while. Write up and images on the blog.

Excellent painting and choice of lively movement! You can feel they are walking against a hail of bullets!

A nice unit well painted. I am not sure it makes a difference but the Life Guard Grenadiers, and indeed nearly all Swedish grenadiers, didn't wear grenadier caps. The Life Guard Grenadiers and another grenadier battalion from later in the war wore the normal hats or the karpus. The same is true for the rest of the army except for 2 or 3 units and even with those they might have been for parades, etc, rather than battle.

As in the others unit you painted the result is wonderful. The unit is dynamic and gives the sense of "Ga Pa". However since I am a keen adept of the "brotherhood of uniform nazis"  ;), I support the comment of TNugent. Looking at the Hoglund book, the only swedish units whose grenadiers wore the mitre cap where the Schommers saxon regiment, the Sodermalands (which around 1710 had 96 grenadiers with miters) and some german Varvade regiments of the baltic garrisons. However who cares: we are not here to get a PhD in uniformology. Well done Sir, every time I see one of your units I get new inspiration for mine.

Mucho, mucho pretty. I really like the different approach to doing this unit - very dynamic and all.

Thanks guys, this was a unit I wanted to do from the start.

My understanding in terms of grenadier headgear is that it is still debated although I accept Hoglund has them all in Tricorne or Karpus. My other units have Grenadiers in same headgear as unit but the Grenadier Guards cry out to be done with a mitre so that's my excuse, even if I was convinced about the headgear I would still have used the mitres for this one unit I think. Apart from that glad you like them, I wanted a really dynamic looking unit for these and think I have captured that.
