SNAP!
I joke that my autofocus is shot. I even take off my glasses to eat, much to the amusement of my family...

I can actually see thing incredibly well... if they're no more than six inches from my eyes!

The primary problem I have at that distance is depth perception, which gets a little funny sometimes.

36 (37 in a few weeks) been wearing glasses since I was 14, was blind as a bat at 12, but didn't want to get bullied for wearing glasses at school (yes I was an idiot). Any how I'm short sighted and have tried to use magnifying glasses for painting, found the best method to just hold the miniature up close instead.  lol

Well I have been back in the hobby a few months now since starting this topic. I have found that I can paint pretty well with cheap reading glasses from Poundland. These are marvellous! I first half-heartedely tried a magnifier, but as my friend has.been concurred, I kept tending to peek around the magnifier which negated the purpose and kept breaking my concentration.
I have also found that I don't need natural light as much as I thought. I can paint at night adequately under artificial light so long as I pre-choose my colours during the day, and paint straight out of the pots (no mixing)

I have worn glasses for short sight since I was twenty, so I had no problem focusing on figures. In the last five years, impending old age has also seen my close up vision deteriorate too.

A large pair of reading glasses has sorted that, although I did get some funny looks in the opticians holding up figures in front of various strengths of glasses. My prescription glasses are tuned for work, not painting, and I'm not paying hundreds of pounds for prescription painting glasses.

I have found that I can paint pretty well with cheap reading glasses from Poundland.

I have used these for years.  However, I have now changed over to the slightly more expensive (£1.49) glasses from Home Bargains because they fit over my hearing aids better and so do not fall off when I look down.

Glad to see this thread! I was actually looking on amazon for a solution to this same problem. Thank you all for posting what you have done!

I'm 51 and missing the 20/10 vision of my youth.

At 63 I use my glasses and jewelers glasses over them.  And with that need more than ambient lighting.  Painting 15s are a thing of the past.

Was never a good painter, but I do find it relaxing and creative.
