Colonial New Zealand Wars display game
« on: 23 June 2019, 06:30:41 PM »
At yesterday’s open day at New Zealand’s newest wargaming venue – The Winterdale Tavern on the Kāpiti Coast – I put on a colonial New Zealand Wars game.

Well, I say ‘game’, but in fact because of it’s location right by the front door, we decided to make it an eye-catcher for visitors, so it was really just a static display.

I actually love doing static displays, as it lets my imagination run wild in setting up a feast of lovely terrain, as well as providing an excuse to jam-pack the table with as many of my models as I can!

There's lots of photos of the display here:

Here are some sample pics from the above link:

Nice display there Roly. I agree with you on trying to paint the Moko. It's almost as painful as the real thing  o_o

A good looking game.  And, for most of us, a bit of an obscure period.

Afraid my 'primary source' is from the movie Her Majesty (wife likes it so we own it).  I do like the old woman character and her description of the Moko.  I do have some Maori figures, though, that I will use in my Slightly Cracked Colonials - one day.  (And, yes, they are in 15 mm!  From Irregular Miniatures.)

There is also nice 15mm figures  available from Battleline Miniatures.
