Given how not even the KV1 firing at the flank of the Tiger made a dent,
it might have (as you said) been better to activate the Tiger first, using it
as a shield between your troops & all those crazy Russians.

20 20 hindsight, we are all equipped with that.

Indeed.  To be fair, we were playing slightly unbalanced teams and it was our first game!

The initial positioning of “jump off” points was a tad confusing and had we been more experienced, I suspect the Germans may have been wiser grouping theirs a little closer due to limited assets to me more mutually supportive as you say.

Knowing how thick the plating was on the Tiger...a moving shield would be exactly how to use it and I would have gone further though and said instead of mobilising it to come to knock out the KV1, it may have evened up the game a tad had it stayed in place and targeted the massing Russian infantry from distance.
