Pretty Cool Basis for a VSF Aerial Cruiser
« on: 11 May 2009, 02:41:36 PM »
I found this whilst I was trawling the net and thought it would be an ideal basis for an aerial cruiser.

It's a Condor ship toy for the "Storm Hawks".

It measures 20 Inches long and I think it has bags of potential.

That has a lot of potential. Just looking it up I found several on E-bay.

I could see it just as easily in the 40k universe but yes, I would like to put some rivets onto one of those.

It's a great piece. The pods up front can open if you need to do some extra detailing. :)

Unfortunately some of the engines and fins are really bendy.

I have one! I bet you're all shocked to hear that :D

I'm thinking of turning it into an "independant trader" ala Firefly.
So many projects..... so little time.......

I bet I'm not the only one sitting impatiently waiting for the finished model to appear  :)

One is en route after a purchasing trip on E-bay. I hope to make a pair of Cavorite Cutters out of the side pods. Failing that I'm sure I can use them to fashion a pair of Prussian gasbags or some such.

I'll take a scale photo in a moment. I know I always like to see, so I figure others do too.

As I said, I'm intending it as a free trader for Venus. My Parrotman airships are built as Tri and catamaran style balloon set-ups with decks. I'd always intended to do at least one trade vessel that was a blend of human and parrotman styles, so when I found this in a cheap shop it was the perfect base.

I'm thinking, add crates, barrels etc as a half layer across the top deck with partial canvas. Then add walkways and railings to extend the centre and allow figures to move around it. Create a bridge, change some details and repaint. I don't think it needs much more for my plans.

Two scale shots with Copplestone Sailors for reference.

And a shot of another wip nef type airship that got moved aside for the shot. Only about half the pieces are destined for this nef, the others either have new homes or are headed for the bin.

I'm still waiting for mine to arrive ( picked one up at 1/2 normal retail price!!).

Dewbakuk: I pretty much had ideas for its use along the same lines as yours. I'm undecided as to whether to keep the bridge as it is or change it into an engine room with smoke stacks. I was thinking of building a flying bridge "mid-ships" and extending the centre deck to house a forward mounted rapid-fire gun.
Thanks for the size comparison shots ( it looks really good for 28mm).
I see you managed to get an "Adventure Heroes" playset aswell. I can't find any where I am  :'(

Cheers

Hey Dewbakuk,

What was the other ship's pieces?  Was it a playset, or did it come with the big ship?

Hmm, clearly I'm documenting far too much of the tat I buy on this forum  :D

Thankfully my wife doesn't read it! She might start keeping track rather than tutting and forgetting....

The only other thing shown in the mixed pic is the body of a Lee Scorsby airship (upside down) which will form the hull of an experimental flyer propelled by the engines from the playset.
