The Historic County Town of Taunton and the Museum of Somerset

I spent some time in November last year checking out some of the history of Taunton and wider Somerset in the town itself and at the Museum of Somerset.
The town played its role in great moments of British history from the Wars of the Roses, English Civil War and the Monmouth Rebellion.
A lot of that history is also captured in the collection held in the Museum of Somerset held in the historic castle in the town centre with a key focus of the 13th Somerset Light Infantry that played a key role in the development of the British Empire throughout the 19th c. in campaigns in Burma, Afghanistan, India and the Zulu War.

Interesting report, thanks.
I'm afraid there's no multiple or cross-posting between boards on this forum though - see forum rules - please just choose the best place for your topic and post it once
(I've removed the duplicate post from the Colonial Adventures board).

Just down the road from me, coincidentally I was thinking of visiting the other day. Is it worth visiting for non military history? Do you think a 5 year old would get much out of it?

Hi Andrew,
Five might be a bit young, they had a class of kids in when I visited checking out the Roman and Pre-historic items but were more in the 7 to 10 age group.
Hope that helps
