Federale Conversion: La Gran Revolucion
« on: February 28, 2010, 02:57:12 AM »
Yes, I know.  Yet another conversion.

But I thought that I'd show how easy this one was.  It's an Artizan W.W.I French Chasseur converted into a Federale.  The kepi is big enough to pass for the Mexican version of the Samur Kepi.  The rifle should be replaced with a Mauser, but all my German rifles are so delicate that they look somehow wrong in the hands of these figures.

The puttees are simply covered up with automobile 'glazing putty.'  This is not 2 part Bondo, but a tube of air drying product that one squeezed out much like tooth paste.  You let it dry for around24 hours, then sand it or scrape it with an X-acto knife.  And because Federale uniforms were so shabby, you can get away with some pretty uneven trouser ends.

Rather than bombarding the requestor with repeats of previous, old photos of Federales how about this?  It's a link to The Bengal Club where we actually managed to post photos of a recent game.  Very ambitious of us actually.

Hope the link works.

Thanks Major,
brilliant idea. I will not sell my chasseurs after i read this because I need them for a very interesting period.

What a fun battle, umpires what you gona do-you can't live with them and can't live without them,  adds a whole new mean to fog of war (which rules are we using anyway?).  Thanks for the report.

Gents,
1.) The rules were 'Contemptible Little Armies.'  We were all a bit rusty, so the game became a bit more of an adventure than we'd planned.
The 'hidden' part of the scenario was that the Villista players had to make a list of the order in which their units were approaching down the road directly to the south.  They made normal CLA movement rolls, and could either move onto the table, or move 'along the table edge out of sight.'  The Villistas spent a lot of time massing their attack on the east side of the table.  It was a surprise for the Federales, but they spent so much time organizing the attack that they lost the game because the Federales received 10 victory points for every turn before they threw in the sponge.  The Federales didn't know that they were just playing for time, they thought that they were trying to inflict casualties.
The Villista artillery had to roll 1D6 the first time that each field gun fired; 1-2 = "Mexican Home Made" ammunition with half the range for that gun, 3-4 = "American Highly Profitable" ammunition with half the explosive capacity, 5-6 = regular ammunition taken from storage somewhere in Mexico.  (This was an actual problem with Villa's artillery.)
2.) The figures could be Renegade.  Dunno.  They're from what I like to refer to as my "incredibly complex figure deal" with another club member.  They were purchased online from the Brigade Games web site, and for quite some time I was referring to them as 'Brigade Games figures.'  Maybe Renegade was purchased by Artizan?  I think I remember that some of the W.W.I British inf. up on the Brigade Games site were referred to as 'formerly Renegade scuptures.'
Did that actually help?
