Making Models from Photo's

I thought I'd mention a chum of mine, Ken Bonham, who's released this book. He's not a gamer, more an aficionado of older architecture, and he's travelled the UK looking at old buildings for decades, taken photos of them, and ultimately made models of them. He shows at exhibitions too, really knows his cobb from his brick, and when it comes to barns he's a mastermind. 



These are perfect for gaming, suit almost any scale, and offer an economical way to get the buildings you want.

The only other photos-to-models I can remember was IanH's from years ago. Rather marvellously those were 6mm, and include some freebies. It was here that I also learnt how Plastiweld (liquid cement) can be used to make an ink-jet print bond to plasticard (styrene), without making the print run, and effectively plasticating the print.

Lovely stuff! Its strange, color printers have gotten more and more common but paper scenery (and figures) seem to have become a lot less common these days, and I'm not convinced that 3d printing is to blame, they seem like very different tools to me. Also actual understanding of the architectural side of things, not just on castles and military structures but on the every day things, that is something I think we can learn a lot from in wargaming.
