Hellgate London skirmish, baby steps
« on: 06 July 2009, 08:54:42 PM »
Hi folks,

Quite some months ago, I showed off my conversion of a Hellgate London Templar.
Well, I also had three test conversions for demons standing on the hobby bench since about that time. This weekend, they forced their way to the front of the painting qeue:

A Fellbore

And two Ravagers

Both types of demons are converted from GW's plastic Lizardmen. The ravagers really took nothing more than reposing them to be on all fours and removing unwanted details.
For the Fellbore, I had to shorten the legs and the tail. Then I sculpted on the typical Fellbore digging claws, and the extra scales on the head, as well as the larger eyes.
Nothing fancy on the painting front, just good old washes and drybrushings...

I just couldn't resist having a bit of a play around with them:

Hope you like 'em, Modhail.

I don't know the game but the conversions look good. I like the first one best as the scraped skin on the second set lacks a bit of definition which is even more visible because of the drybrush. Other than that cool piccies 8)

Yep, it's Hasslefree's Dynamic Tyriel, with some minor conversion done to her. I've shown her earlier (lots earlier...) here: link

Whoops, forgot:
Dijit: those Loxatl look very nice! I like their skincolour.

Pil/marrony: The game has been "dead" for about six months now, so I can't show you the official game site anymore. Hopefully this and this gives a bit of an impression.

The skin on the ravagers is indeed a bit rough, though the foto's seem to emphasise it a bit. They're supposed to have a bit of a rough, lumpy skin, but the next batch will certainly get a bit more smoothing.

The Templar presence locally has doubled:

Time to start looking around for miniatures to use as Cabalists and Hunters...

Demons are still tricky though, it's hard to match Hellgate: London's style or specific demons without having to build most of the demon from scratch. This is okay for one-off demons, but for those I need multiples of, I'd prefer doing simpler conversions. The Fellbores and Ravagers are doable, but I haven't yet found a way of doing Imps that doesn't involve sculpting most of it myself...

It's a Regdar the Fighter miniature from the old, defunct WotC Chainmail range.

Renfield, thanks for the suggestion! And the helpful images.

At the moment, I'm considering using GW's Lizardmen for the imps, the same as I used for the Ravagers and Fellbores. They're just a bit to narrow at the shoulder though. And ideally, I'd also need to thicken their limbs a bit.
I had dismissed them earlier, because the texture of their skin is different, and I felt I would need to resculpt the entire skin.. But perhaps, for the sake of actually finishing things, I'll have to ignore that.
I'll try building one with minimal conversion and see how I like it.
(But, if someone finds the perfect Imp body in the meantime, please let me know!)
