My fist thought for opponents were the Olley Aliens, but that's probably not the most practical opponents as they are discontinued now and there were few variations. But big mean space bugs sound like a good opponent!

Got 'em flocked! Will need to tidy up the edges a bit (but may just skip that for the photo). Hope to have some photos posted a little later today.
