Ethiopian Stronghold for HOTT
« on: 09 December 2020, 10:59:29 PM »

The gate to Amba Mariam, fortress of Tewodros II of Ethiopia!
The guards are still very WIP  :)
This piece will be the Stronghold for my Hordes of the Things / Hordes of the Empire Ethiopian army.

The rules are quite restrictive on the size of Strongholds. I don't think the model conveys the magnificence of the real Amba Mariam, but I'm happy with it  :)

Would anyone know where I could find reference material on Ethiopian cavalry? The Osprey book on 19th Century Ethiopia doesn't have many pictures. I'm using Eureka Miniatures' 15mm range, many of which are "Barded Cavalry". Very nice figures, but I can't find reference material on how they looked.

Thanks,

Misneach

Best book I have found is Le Guerre Coloniali Italiene 1855-1900 by Raffaele Ruggeri. A Google search for his name and Adowa will give you some pictures of mounted figures. Most are Ras (leaders) but there is a picture of a basic mounted guy. I don't have the book with me but I am pretty sure there are illustrations of harder cavalry. I can look at the weekend.
