Stargrave crew extra heads
« on: 23 July 2022, 09:17:15 PM »
I have a couple of sample crew sprues on the way.

If I wanted to give myself more head choices, any suggestions?   I know there's Statuesque for the female crew, but would I be needing the heroic or non heroic size?

Take a look at this website:

https://khorosho-productions.blogspot.com/p/comparison-photos.html

That should answer your question - Stargrave/Frostgrave miniatures are pretty much at the bottom. Says they used Heroic Scale Female Heads SMALL on Frostgrave plastics.

Hope that helps.

Crooked Dice do separate heads and I believe they are on the ‘normal’ side sizewise.

Thank you for the huge amount of information about Statuesque.

Im familiar with Crooked Dice but dont know, yet, how those figures match up against Stargrave plastics..I suppose I'm assuming plastics would be on the heftier GW side but I'd be pleased to be wrong.

For female crew members, I'd just go with the female crew sprue - that way you get appropriately scaled female bodies and arms too.

I'd say the best choice of alternative heads comes from the Stargrave mercenaries sprue, which includes various interesting helmets, more aliens (an ape, a racoon-type, two lizards and a 'bum-face' Star Wars alien, among others) and various grizzled-looking humans.

The Stargrave troopers sprue also has helmeted heads (of two main types), plus male and female heads (the bulky armour of the trooper bodies means that body size and shape is less of an issue).

Also, the female crew sprue has some alien heads that could be either sex (or something else).

Buying an individual Stargrave sprue is probably little more expensive than buying a set of heads, once you account for postage, etc.

For the female crew there are plenty of suitable plastic heads on the Frostgrave female sprues, plus the Troopers sprue has female heads.

Alternatively, Anvil Industries has a large range.

For male heads, again the Frostgrave and Ghost Archipelago sprues are alternatives to the Stargrave heads.

Again, Anvil have a number of useful SF heads (including SpaceCowboys).

Ohh I forgot, puppetswar has a huge range of heads that work well with Frostgrave (gun is from Anvil):

Again, thanks for all the imput.
Im aware Im not going down the most economic route; I'm not planning a Stargrave crew as such, as I don't have those rules-the plan is a small group of humans either scavenging or rebelling or resisting Daleks.
I've got a perception of what I'm after which may involve going outside the confines of the sprues.

It will be in contrast too and considerably less retro than my existing not-1999 group.

Pig Iron may be worth a look. I'm not sure how many non-helmeted heads they do, but I think there are some. The figures are generally on the smaller side of things, so the heads should be okay

I got a frame of the Frostgrave female wizards for just this purpose. That gives plenty of options. Now I just have to get around to building and painting them...

Mixing Frostgrave and Stargrave sprues is very useful to made some original F.H. Dune-like characters too.
