Two simple 'formation' questions about Peninsular Spanish

In all of my books ([a reasonable wargamer's library - link below) the Spanish seemed to have manoeuvred in 'march column', then deployed to fight in 'line' formations. I can't, to hand, find any reference to them forming up in battalion mass / column of attack (except to pass a defile?).

Q: Did the Spanish use battalion mass / column of attack formation in the open field?

Q: If they did, was it a common practice?

I think the Spanish army used linear tactics, like British and 1806 Prussians

That was my thought too but, you know what it's like when you read so much you begin to doubt what you actually know.

One more positive observation needed for a confirmed kill.

As far as I am aware the Spanish only used 3-deep line and march columns, and square. No attack columns.
