« on: 13 March 2023, 09:55:33 PM »
Hi All,

I'm planning of adding some Blitzkrieg miniatures WW2 italian vehicles to my Warlord Games italian army. Which scale best suits the Warlord Gamesminiatures 1/48 or 1/56 scale

Thanks
Steve

I would go 1/48, l have some 1/56 Crusaders that are perfect for Perry but would be a bit small for Warlord and their more heroic style.

They both work depending on you own POV. They are essentially avatars or 3 D counters. Go with the one that has the biggest range and nicer models. IIRC Rubicon have some Italian kits out soon or in the pipeline.

For years I was extremely unhappy with my 28mm WW2 collection due to the mismatch between most (especially the newer) 28mm figures and 1/56th scale vehicles. Last year I just said "bugger it" and go on with 1/56th scale vehicles. They'll fit most opponents' vehicles, by now there is a vast choice of vehicle kits to choose from (even in plastic), and the fact that infantry figures look a bit too wide (that's mostly the problem with 1/65th scale vehicles and 28mm figures. Plus, the bases adding at least 1,5mm) is something that just doesn't bother me once the stuff's on the table.

I'd say go with 1/56th, so you can also use all the other offerings and so there is no mismatch with your gaming pals' vehicle sizes (unless they all use 1/48th of course. Your pals' collections should always be the main point of consideration.).

If you're unhappy with the size, try putting your 1/56th scale vehicles on a base. that should help aleviating the infantry base factor.

The scale correct answer is 1/56 - the scale of the Rubicon models and the supposed scale of Warlord's models (plastics definitely, for the resins, YMMV).
For comparison:

1/56 Company B resin, 1/48 Tamiya, 1/43 nameless die cast. - and William Killian (Crooked Dice) on a 25mm slotta base.

But as Carlos says, check the ranges for what you are after.

Saying that, I have 1/56 scale mainly for WW2, but for late war Brits (Empress figures) and their opponents there will be 1/48 and 1/50 scale vehicles (I blame the Empress CT15a).

Oh and depending on how detail obsessed you are you might want to be a bit circumspect about the Blitzkreig models.

I bought three of their 1/56 BMPs a few years ago. They are kind of about the right size (not scale) for 28mm figures, the BMP being a notoriously small and cramped vehicle. That said the dimensions are not correct for 1/56 and the proportions are decidedly iffy as well (too narrow). The detail in some areas is somewhat lacking but reasonable enough for a gaming model. The rear doors on the things are the size of scale bar fridge doors and the rear hull is way too short in height.

They gathered dust and my wife managed to knock the box off a bookcase with disastrous results. I had thought I'd binned them when we moved house but they turned up and after a lot of work, replacing bits of track gun barrels, headlights etc as well as fixing the issue with the doors and rear hull they look reasonable enough. Certainly good enough for the table and I'm a cheap bastard at heart. :)

Admittedly it's a small sample but my experience is that Blitzkreig produce reasonable gaming toys but there are better options out there if you want detail and accuracy.

I'll be posting pics of them soon enough next to the quite tall Underfire miniatures so you can judge for yourself.

My two cents for what its worth.
Go with 1/48 1/50 with bigger figures.
Warlord, Artisan to name a couple of ranges.
I find that you may get away with 1/56 with large tanks,
but for smaller vehicles they are much to small for me.
For example an American Stuart tank ,fine in 1/48.
It looks like a pygmy in 1/56.
If you are used only Perry figures I believe 1/56 would work.
