Casting Room Miniatures Zulu War British
« on: 25 September 2023, 01:57:35 PM »
Having drawn a blank on obtaining any BTD (they who shall not be mentioned) on the Bazaar page, I am looking elsewhere for a project

I am working on a Prince Louis Napoleon idea and thought about using FLH for Bettingtons Horse.

I quite like Casting Room Miniatures Zulus but am not sure about the British - the mounted figures don't look too bad but the dismounted versions look a bit dodgy (very big looking hands).

I was hoping to pick up some BTD boers to match my Zulus

Has anyone got ideas/thoughts about Casting Room Minis (British)

Thanks a lot

The Casting Room figures actually look a lot better in the flesh, so to speak.

The Zulus look good because they are basically Mark Copplestone Darkest Africa Natives with extra Zulu gear sculpted on and I've never found a miniature sculpted by Mr Copplestone that I didn't like. Not sure who sculpted the Brits but it clearly wasn't Mr Copplestone.

Yeah, those Zulus are lovely and that's the reason. I have a bunch of them and I think that of the Zulus I own they are my favourites. They also come with the best Zulu shields you can get, in my personal opinion. There are some in that range who aren't Copplestone hybrids, but those ones aren't too bad. Can't say the same for the British though, let's just say they aren't great. Quite a few of them seem to have big hands, big heads and oddly unnatural poses.

When I was collecting by BTD Zulus, replaced the shields with the Casting Room ones, mainly because most Zulu figures shields seem very thick and in contemporary photos they are actually quite thin and wibbly....

Yes, the fact that their shape is warped is one of the things I most like about them. Don't think I've seen any by other manufacturers that have captured that aspect of those shields. I have an African shield of that style (though I don't think it is a Zulu one, going by the shape) and it is warped and bent like that. I wouldn't call it wibbly exactly though, as it is stiff and fixed in the warped position rather than being flexible and wobbly. :)

I own several Zulu shields and yes they are slightly warped. The BTD ones are very good and adorn many of my Zulu figures
