Sharp Practice in 6mm
« on: 23 September 2023, 04:47:10 PM »
I'm sure I'm not the first to try Sharp Practice in 6mm, I thought about 10 or 15 but wanted to scale down the play area too. Picked up some Adler minis and was going to get some baccus too but actually the Adler are so great I think I'll stick with them

Just need to figure out the basing

I think I've settled on the Leaders being based with additional figures equivalent to their Level. Skirmishers will be a mix or 1,2,3 per base but can't quite decide what to do with the figures in close formation

On the lookout for 10mm Magister Militum Fantasy figures, halflings and woodelves in particular

This is great! Something I considered when I started chipping away at AWI for SP. I ended up in 15mm but stared for ages at (10 and) 6mm for exactly the reasons you’ve stated.

My main problem was the fact I don’t like representational basing (these eight chaps are 250 - just use smaller chaps) and wanted to multi base and couldn’t work out how to make it work: whilst putting a small group (4 say) on a base (the skirmishes were easy enough but as you said in close order it was problematic) it looked better if they weren’t all in one line (or a straggling line) but couldn’t make it aesthetically pleasing without getting the number of ranks historically inaccurate.

I did wonder about basing 4 chaps on a pill base but was worried it would effect gameplay (somehow) went for the simplicity of the 15mm option in the end.

How many chaps are you putting per infantry base?

Looking forwards as ever to seeing what you achieve, thank you for posting,

Andrew

FOR THE SKIRMISHERS I've decided to go with 2x15mm base withe a single figure and 2x20mm with a pair

For the others I'm thinking 4 on a 20mm square base and 4 singles on 10mm square bases,

Sorry I hadn’t grasped the intention of resizing to 6mm: you’re not doing multiple chaps on one base and having 8 of such bases in a group (to have lots of chaps on the table) but rather making a standard group of 8 line chaps but in 6mm (to make awesome travel/pocket SP). Apologies.

So (cleverly) with a core block of 4 on a 20mm (arranged like the 4 pips on a die?) and the four single they can be rearranged to make the standard 8 line chaps in various formations? I was trying to scale it from the wrong end that’s really simple and straightforward. Are there any downsides to the chosen base option? I ask as I don’t really know SP2 well (next on re-reading list) or much about black powder warfare and this is a very interesting and appealing project.

Thank you for posting

No worries I wasn't being clear :)

I can't see a downside

I'll be switching to cm so will be down sizing everything :)

I have Adler 6mm WW2 (which is probably my favourite of any range I’ve seen) but I’ve never really looked closely at his other ranges. Unsurprisingly these are beautiful sculpts and you’ve done an amazing job bringing them to life with your crisp painting.
