Bolt Action supplements - Like tribbles, but more expensive?
« on: 14 December 2023, 03:48:20 PM »
So being a newby and geographically remote from other historical miniature wargamers (and stores that sell what I need), I'm trying to figure out a lot of this stuff on my own.

I have the Warlord Games Stalingrad set (no, not that one, the other one) and I'm wondering which supplements I "need" to be doing this right.

Putting the pieces together so I'll have options of both early war (no panzerfausts and automatic rifles) and late war (with lots of panzerfausts and assault rifles).  What will these books do for me, and which ones are fluff?  It appears my choices of supplements are as follows:

Armies of Germany
Armies of the Soviet Union
Ostfront; Barbarossa to Berlin
Campaign Stalingrad
Campaign Fortress Budapest
Campaign Case Blue
Campaign The road to Berlin

Your opinions and any information you can provide are greatly appreciated.
Inara: It sounds like something this crew can handle. I can't guarantee they'll handle it particularly well, but...
Nandi: If they've got guns and brains at all...
Inara: They've got guns.

Definitely the 2 "Armies of..." books.  The others are worth getting, depending on which phases of the eastern front you want to do.

Although, I tend to use scenarios and tweak them for theaters/periods for which they were not originally intended...so I get 'em all, at least for inspiration's sake...

Yes, the army books give you the nuts and bolts of putting a general force together, with all the points and special rules. Campaign books are generally historical background, new scenarios, army lists for particular battles, and a few new specialized units for those battles.
