Full Metal Miniatures - New BAOR
« on: February 26, 2024, 07:16:53 PM »
I was at Cavalier at the weekend and Full Metal Miniatures were there with the start of a lovely BAOR range, in both 20mm & 28mm.

I picked up the 28’s and they are terrific. The 20’s are the same figures, just smaller and they easily look to be the nicest 20mm BAOR I’ve seen.

Both ranges are worth checking out…

Hmm. Look a bit 'who ate all the pies' to me. Definitely on the chunky side. That said, they look a great deal better than their Vietnam range.

Be interested to see how they size up height wise with the Empress BAOR miniatures. They are definitely going to be fatter judging by the photos of painted figures.

Funny you say that, I am not a fan of the Empress BAOR… unlike their amazing Mutiny range which I love.

Just goes to prove how subjective opinions on figures are…

So how tall are they? Comparison shots show the Vietnam range to be massive. Bigger than the Gringo 40s, which aren't small and dwarfing the Paul Hicks Empress sculpts.

These appear to have digitally sculpted so likely not the work of the Vietnam sculptor. Of course the Empress BAOR, like the rest of their moderns are really 32mm as opposed to Paul's 28mm Vietnam figures.

Another useful resource for 1970s/80s games. It would be interesting to see a comparison of these with the 1st Corps modern British and the Gripping Beast MoFo range's Falklands War Brits

Couldn't agree more...my own project is definitely based around the excellent Empress BAOR, but if the FM minis are compatible height wise I might be able to include a few chubby extras...maybe Territorials  ;)

Keeping a close eye on these and the forthcoming Lionheart figures. 👍

Not 100% convinced, some of the helmets (the Infantry Section chaps) look a little odd. Would have been nice to see some with bum rolls above the horrible kidney pouches or even 2 bum rolls, and the combat jackets are not quite there. Be good to see some in noddy suits.

Gone back, my mistake, the chaps I look at had the para helmet, although anyone in a Para helmet would be in a Para Smock.

Seen these knocking around FB, and sorry, but not for me.

This is all subjective I know, purely my own opinion, but the faces are totally overdone, the helmets are tiny, the overall physique is harking back to the "burly midget" aesthetic of old, and in general the idea of buying figures on the basis of a computer rendered images ain't for me.

I'll stick with my 20mm Elhiem metals. Can't be beat.
Proudly not painting Wars of The Roses since... ever
