Cheap minions for my dungeon - 1/72 plastics
« on: January 25, 2024, 03:39:35 PM »
I have been playing a lot more Sellswords dungeon-type scenarios recently, so I need some cheap low-level sword fodder https://grahamsgaming.blogspot.com/2024/01/cheap-dungeon-minions-172-plastics.html

Great idea for cheap adversaries!
I have quite a bit of these 1/72 Dark Alliance figures. Heads-up...these Anubis warriors are taller than most of the others in the line, so even if they blend ok with your 25-28mm some of the others might be too small.

You have the trolls and cyclops, I think the Minotaurs might be compatible with your Oathmark, but not as imposing minotaurs, but more like another group of "beastmen" to go with these dog-headed warriors.

Nice paint work, Graham!  You and Hobgoblin found a similar alternative for stocking up with monsters for frugal gaming.  Mine are all on black bases so I can use them for outdoors or indoors games on the tabletop.  Not the most attractive of bases, but they work for me.

Those should give you a lot more pose variety than the Blacklist Games monster miniatures, too!

I'm not sure if Dark Alliance/Red Box or Caesar/Miniknight have many plans for future fantasy releases?

Caesar hasn't released a new fantasy set in years, although they seem to be recasting some of the old sets and releasing them on the market again.

Here's a photo showing the scaling of those Minotaurs:

How do those minotaurs stack up against a 28mm figure?

In the linked picture, a minotaur is next to (I think) a Victrix viking and they appear to be pretty much eye-to-eye. The Viking is slightly taller, due to wearing a helmet.

Gah, for some reason that photo didn't load me the first time. Seems that it works for a pony-sized minotaur

Those Anubis type are looking good, Sunjester!

In case it helps anyone with the minotaurs, here's a scale shot with Perry and Fireforge knights. I'd say the minotaurs are roughly the size of GW ungors.

i like it!

Another advantage of 1/72 scale is the fact that they need fewers storage space! In your gaming bags as well as in your cabinet  8)

They appear to work really well as goblins fighting that Oathmark elf! I like your painting on them.
