Mongoose's Rogue Trooper?
« on: 25 January 2024, 03:04:14 PM »
It looks like there was a Kickstarter a few years ago: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1990654819/2000ad-rogue-trooper-miniatures-game

Does anyone know what happened here? Did you back it? I can't find the models for sale anywhere.

Looking at the comments, I wonder if Mongoose lost permission to use the IP

Yeah the KS was cancelled and never got to the fulfillment stage. There was only a single pack of minis released (Rogue + 1 Nort+ 1 Souther). Mongoose eventually lost the 2000 AD license which was probably related.
You can find the beta rules from the KS around the web:

They were based on Mongoose's Starship Troopers ruleset.

Yeah, got burned on that one. Given the various delays with their Judge Dredd KS, I should have known better.

Ended up ordering some Nort proxies from Bronze Age Miniatures in the US.

Hoping Warlord release a Rogue Trooper game at some point.

I think the KS wasn't cancelled - it shows as complete on the website - but Mongoose were pretty bad at getting themselves (himself) organised and there was total chaos, people waiting ages and ages for product, or getting the wrong things sent to them etc. Lots and lots of unhappy customers.

Mongoose sold a bunch of the minis through their website for a while, then lost the licence. Some of the sculpts were very ropey indeed.

no surprise there considering the state of their Judge Dredd stuff.

Perhaps I was being overly dramatic, but the constant delays, getting the wrong things sent to me. Don't think the rulebook ever did turn up.

Wasn't this an Andy Chambers design? His first freelancing after he quit GW.

I think that the KS was kind of finalised, probably with some backers missing out to some extent, but it certainly never went to retail.

Kind of regret not getting into it.

Entertainingly Mongoose was at one point owned by Rebellion, but I was told Rebellion had divested themselves of it before the JD Kickstarter.

I think Warlord hold all the current figure and miniature rights to 2000AD IP.
