I am looking for documentation or books on the Ottoman army and uniforms for the 17th century period.  ;)

There is a book on the Ottoman army of the 2nd half of the 17th century in the Helion "Century of the Soldier" series.

Thank you for the information you gave me.
I am particularly looking for the color of the Jannissary uniforms, it is to make about ten for a skirmish.  ;)

Calvin, from what I read it depends on whether your models are in parade or campaign dress. The book I referenced has a plate and associated commentary for a Janissary in 1660-70 campaign dress that has the figure in a green thigh-length jacket or jupon with an orange/yellow vertically striped sash, small turban and grey trousers. Another picture of a janissary in parade dress says they wore green, red or turquoise kaftans and the plate has red trousers, with a traditional white "bork" headress.  Other plates in the Osprey "Elite 58 The Janissaries" shows a figure in red coat with blue trousers so I guess they wore combinations with different coloured  coat and trousers. I hope this helps.

We really have little idea on Janissary uniforms generally. As has been mentioned we have various illustrations of what are probably individual units but this does not neccessarily reflect all of theunits.

There were up to circa 200 'Orta', the basic Janissary unit, and it is probable that they had many different uniforms - possibly each Orta had a different one.

When I was painting some Janissaries last year, a friend who's quite keen on the Ottomans posted:

Janissary trivs: the uniform items were shoes (colour-coded to social status, Janissaries entitled to red leather) trousers (specific to regiment) and headdress.
Coats were private purchase, for some reason.
We can expect a degree of uniformity due to coming from the same sources,  local availability of fabric, and not wanting to look different...

No idea on the source though... And how it may have differed on campaign...

Thank you all for your clarifications on the uniform. I will continue to do some research. Otherwise, since it is only for skirmish, I will make them the same color.  ;)
