Trev Pasha's 15mm Ottoman horde
« on: 14 February 2024, 12:24:27 PM »
Hello all.

I've just finished re-basing and tarting up my old 15mm Napoleonic era Ottomans.  These poor guys have been languishing in boxes for more years than I care to remember.  After a recent test game, I decided to re-do them for Sam Mustafa's Blucher big-battle Napoleonic rules.  Quite a bit of sorting, painting, basing and adding flags later, I now just about have a 300 point army.

Here are a few of the completed units.  The bases are 80mm x 60mm as that is how my club mate had done his.  I rather like the chunky bases and disorderly look of the units.

More units and details of what they are supposed to represent on the blog here

These do look very good. I'm sure they look fantastic as an army. Do you know what make they are?

Mostly Minifigs Ottomans from their Napoleonic Range.  The Artillery are Old Glory I think.

Thanks all.  Hopefully they will look good en mass. I do have a few more bases' worth left to paint, and I'll need some entrenchments too, as these are allowed in the rules.

There's quite a mix of figures. The Mamluks are AB, now available from Eureka. The Maghrebis, Palestinians and Delis are 15mm Old Glory. Timecast sell them in the UK. The Cossacks/Yoruks were from Grumpy’s (now Eureka again) and some Essex. The Janissaries are mostly AB with a few from Essex. The Arnauts are a mix of AB and Minifigs. The regular cavalry and artillery are mostly old Battle Honours. Someone does sell them still I think.  The Irregular cavalry are OG and the some Minifigs. Command are mostly Essex, BH and OG figs. Might be one or two from Irregular Miniatures in there too.  I plan to add some of their Balkan Wars Bulgarians soon as they seem to fit. The unpainted stuff I have is mostly more Minifigs infantry and artillery. Lots of others that do 15mm/18mm Ottomans now too.  I've tried to make the flags historical or historically inspired using notes from the recent Flaherty and Mugnai books. The uniforms are a mixture of historical and imagination.  I started a lot of these a long time ago, so the research has come a long way since then.  For example the Janissaries probably wouldn't have the long coats and Börk hats of the 17thC.  By the late 18thC theye were probably in turbans, short jackets and 'russian' trousers.  If I was doing another Napoleonic Ottoman army again, I'd probably use the lovely new 28mm Perry figures.

That is quite an assemblage of manufacturers! And yes, the Perry figures do look gorgeous.
