Whew, it's been a while!

Not a very exciting update, this one. Just had this Afrika Korps fella laying around after I lost motivation for the project and thought hey, cool pose, let's paint him just for fun. And so I did!

I actually tried, instead of using washes (like Agrax Earthshade which I always use) to use thinned down paint instead, and I actually prefer how that worked! Plus, it's in the proper colour for the part it's meant to be shading, and not just brown. But it's a more subtle approach which I'm a fan of, what do you guys think?

Granted it probably wouldn't work with a more drab scheme, or I would have to go brighter on the highlights and darker on the shading. He probably needs more contrast, I might do more passes of this – I found it actually stains less than GW washes, which means less cleanup!

I'm very happy with how he's turned out so far! still have to finish the base, though.

Looks good but have you tried using a glaze medium with your thinned down paint? It makes the thinned paint flow better and you get a smoother finish.
I use it in between layers when painting flesh to blend them together and on large areas such as cloaks.
