I've now been re United with the rules thanks to Mike. I'm quite impressed with what I put together all those years ago. I'm going to have a go at rewriting them to incorporate a few new ideas.

Glad you’ve found a copy - I kept looking but had not had any luck. Looking forwards to seeing what you do with it.

Were you the original writer? If so it must have been frustrating to have lost access to your work.

Black Hat describes BA USSR in his earlier post.

It’s very much a small skirmish game that predates Warlord.

BA USSR and Bolt Action by Warlord are very different beasts.

The company was Bolt Action Miniatures and was run by Simon Bargery.

He sold the range to Warlord who eventually replaced the very fine Paul Hicks sculpts with more action based rather less subtle sculpts...

The USSR rules have no connection with the Bolt Action rules.  They are a set of Skirmish rules for small actions with 6 men a side.

I'd forgotten all about it for years and then as I've been playing GW kill team I started to think this reminds me of my old game in some aspects. My old pc is dead and gone and we sold all the copies. It was really cool to get hold of an old pdf. I wrote the bulk and then play tested it with a couple of pals. I'm interested to see how it works 😂

Hi Si,

I somehow missed your reply. Apologies for that.

Though I have now found my copy of your USSR rules, complete with card summary sheets and the cards of tokens (as yet uncut).

I also have a screen print of the original BA website page, which summarises the rules, offers some variations, and prices them at £5. The screen print is dated 18/10/2008, which I’d guess is when I bought them.

I’d finally dug them out as having recently purchased a few Quar, I was thinking the rules might be useful for a small trench warfare (raids, etc) game.

Hi Si,
I didn't expect to see anyone asking about USSR rules! Its been a long time since we play tested them.

How are things? If you are planning an update I'm happy to help testing the new version.

Drop me a line.

David
