'Saracen' artillery crew suggestions please
« on: June 22, 2024, 10:25:15 AM »
I need some crew figures for these traction trebuchets I made some time ago. Simply 'standing about' would do nicely.

I'm not bad at figure conversion but don't want to do re-sculpts if you get my drift - only arm positions, etc. at most.

I made these out of Perry plastic bases, glued together to get varying thicknesses, and some plastic rods that stopped something moving in transportation (if memory serves). Worked nicely, but no crews for love or money. For those wondering my skill level for conversions, etc. the pics of the trebuchets probably gives an idea.

and painted with ropes attached, though since this pic was taken I've redone with just four ropes each.

Maybe use standing spearmen and command groups. I think your collection is more Perrys than any so  i would go with MA19, MA21, MA22 and MA23 with some converted arms holding the ropes. The barechested figures may give the impression of heavy work with the trebuchets.

Couldn't you use the siege weapon crew made by Footsore and just do a head conversion + some green stuff modification?

I second the Perrys; even the males from MA29 Muslim Civilians, could be suitable.

Gripping Beast have their plastic arab spearmen that have a few that are almost standing straight and with some conversion could be made into crew.

I was going to say the same - GB Arab Infantry.
Being plastic they'd be dead easy to chop around to get the poses you want. And you can buy individual sprues rather than a whole box.

As for trebuchets themselves...I love them! Nice and simple. I'm going to make some myself after seeing what you've done.
