Phoenician Marines in Persian armies?
« on: September 15, 2024, 09:30:32 AM »
I’m currently expanding my Persian horde, and considering a small contingent of Phoenician marines, only 15 models.

But I’m looking for a good figure to use?
Obviously we have a massive amount of plastics to kit bash these days.
So I’m just looking for ideas?

I could just use a standard Hoplite figure, I suppose, but I’d like something with a bit more character?
I haven’t looked at the ‘new’ Victrix hoplites yet?

Picture for some sort of reference, not sure how accurate it is?

Great topic.   I'm interested in anyone's insights too.   For what it's worth the new Victrix Hoplites are brilliant. Very dynamic though.   Probably as close as you can get to the image before kitbashing in extra bits like the gaff and perhaps some changes to helmets.

I’ve now looked at these models, they are lovely.

The dynamic pose is fine, kind of, as I’m going to field them as light troops.
The only problem with the figures is the leg armour, greaves.

I’m looking for a peltast wearing a posh helmet and body armour!

My current thoughts are a Victrix kit bash,

Carthaginian box set,
I can use the body of the African spearman.
Maybe the command helmets, or the new Victrix extra Hoplite head set?
Plus the Libyan javelins and arms.

The only downside is the static pose, but I can live with that.

Thoughts?

Seems like you'll want to kit-bash with the Victrix Greek Peltasts for at least the legs and javelins.

I'm with Bollix! (not a sentence I saw myself saying this morning lol)
Kitbashing certainly looks to be the way to go here.

I’m in favour of any project involving marines that aren’t space marines, and particularly not Space MarinesTM. This will be an intriguing thread to follow as I would personally have had no idea where to start. I have my own questions, beginning with: where is the image of the marine from?
