AWI With Flats
« on: November 09, 2024, 03:30:05 PM »
I have revisited flats recently using Wofun Games ACW figures that I bought a few years ago using Rebels and Patriots and playing through the scenarios. My regular wargaming buddy was so impressed he bought a starter army for AWI and will likely get the Texacan War of Independence as well. For less than £100 he has a matched pair for Rebels and Patriots with none of the extensive painting time required. For trying out a new period they are an excellent way of doing things. Not everyone's cup of tea since they are flats - but they are gorgeous and results are better than many of us can paint.

So some photographs below of one of the scenarios we played today.

The British were trying to force a bridge to which American reinforcements were rushing - the stalwart defenders held on against the redcoats.

Very nice. As you say, 'Not everyone's cup of tea' but I can see the attractions.
Problem is, as you know, I have few 'new' periods to try out.  :D

Wofun flats are very nice.
I have several Wofun armies in eras that I have an interest in but, not enough interest to paint figures for. They do work best for linear warfare, for obvious reasons.
Thanks for posting.

Sensible flats - ie they work when seen from the front and/or the back, by the generals, and not from the side.

Because wargaming is not meant to be a spectator sport.....

Despite great temptation, and this post doesn't help, I have yet to pull the trigger on Wofun flats.  I do make extensive use of Peter Connolly's PaperBoys and the Helion paper figure books. They look almost as good as 3-D figures, are considerably cheaper, and no painting so I can field them faster.

Yes - Peter Dennis papers are a cheap way of doing things - more time consuming with cutting and gluing but still quicker than painting. I use the Spanish Wars of Succession papers - and enjoy using Twilight of the Sun King rules - I fairly recently picked up a couple of scenario books from which I have played a couple of battles from. Got quite a number of other of those Helion paper books as well and did do some ECW units up for Neil Thomas One Hour Wargames rules a few years back.
