Hi. I've seen your various rulebooks but what I can't find are the army basics. I have 23 ancient /medieval armies all based for Impetus. Some are multi-based others individually based on sabots. Before thinking of "investing" can you advise what the basing requirements are....if any. I don't plan to rebase any of my armies.
Thanks
Hi, thanks for the question.
I'm not 100% sure on the basing sizes for Impetus so I don't know how easily it would transfer over for you.
Our recommended scale is 28mm but you can play the game at any scale you like. At this size we advise individual infantry to be on 20mm x 20mm, cavalry on 25mm x 50mm, and commanders on 40/50mm round/square.
If you have units that are multiples of this, that makes it easy to adapt already based armies from other games (40mm x 40mm = 4 infantry etc.).
We do make a point of saying that movement trays are important in the game for measurements, as well as depiction of total unit strength (where the models are on the tray is fluid depending on what you're doing), so it also lets you get away with not having perfectly sized units if you're coming over from another game system.
A good example would be if you wanted to represent 24 infantry 6x4. Normally this would be 120mm x 80mm. If you had multiple elements of 50mm x 40mm you could put 4 of them on the correct size movement tray (2x2) and then track wounds taken with some sort of marker. Once you lost 6 wounds you could take off an element to help keep track of what sort of state your units are in. I know this isn't ideal but you could definitely get away with playing like that (we have done so plenty of times!).
I hope that helps out at least a little!
